Pianello Lario is a commune in the province of Como, in the Lombardy region of Italy. This destination is ideal for those who desire a ‘get away from it all’ break amidst the relaxing backdrop of beautiful Lake Como. The town offers a number of historic landmarks to visit, and is an ideal base from which to hike in the surrounding woodlands and explore the nearby towns. Pianello Lario is an ideal destination for those looking for a scenic location where they can relax amongst some beautiful scenery and one of Italy’s most famous lakes. The town itself has adequate amenities, including some good bars and restaurants, and is just a few kilometres from the busier shopping areas of Dongo (3km) and Menaggio (10km) – the latter of which is also home to Italy’s oldest golf course. Two of the main visitor attractions within Pianello Lario are the 15th century Church of San Martino, and the Museum of La Raccolta della Barca Lariana – which houses over 600 boats that have played a part in the nautical history of Lake Como, dating back to the 19th century.
When visiting a town such as Pianello Lario it makes sense to make the most of your holiday, and enjoy a selection of the other towns and villages that line Lake Como. As well as the previously mentioned Dongo and Menaggio, consider a journey the ancient town of Gravedona (7km)– which has a number of historic monuments, and the so-called ‘Pearl of the Lake’ - Bellagio.
If you decide to visit Pianello Lario any time from May to October you will likely be greeted with almost cloudless sunny skies, with temperatures usually above 25C. Tourism drops off between October and April, but with cheaper accommodation rates available, and a cooler, even more peaceful environment, winter and early spring are equally good times to visit the area.
Pianello Lario lies 90km north of Milan, and a budget flight to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is the cheapest way of getting to your holiday rental accommodation. A second option is to fly to Orio al Serio Airport at Bergamo (BGY), with Ryanair offering services from a number of UK airports, including London Stansted (STN) and Liverpool (LPL).
