This Victorian era townhouse is located steps from Congress St, and a pleasant 10 minute walk to the Waterfront/Old Port; enjoy the multitude of museums, restaurants, galleries, theaters, and shops as you explore the city on foot, from this centrally located location.

There is open park space right outside the front door, and rooftop & harbor views from the 3rd floor den. Each of the two bedrooms has a full bath adjacent to it.

The exposed brick & beams, original moldings, high ceilings, and original wood floors combine for a comfortable and elegant space, for your home base as you explore the city.

Two bedrooms, 2 full baths, and a den (w/sleeper sofa), set up in 3 levels of living space. The first level has a living room (w/ additional twin sleeper sofa), dining room, and eat in kitchen, and a private rear deck equipped with a gas grill.

We had a great time in Portland! The house was great--the location was EXCELLENT and the style of the house (especially for Westerners such as ourselves) felt perfect for the area. Both are reasons we're so happy we chose a vacation rental over a hotel and will continue to do so in the future. You're availability and assistance was also awesome--we went to nearly all the places you suggested and we're so happy with each them! It was SO helpful to have someone from the area make suggestions with descriptions of why to go to each, we really appreciated it!

truly a home away from home

We lived in this lovely property for about two months, Nov-Dec 2014, and could not have been more pleased. It is spacious, comfortable, clean, warm, quiet, tastefully decorated and really came to feel to us like a second home. Tons of character. Favorite features would be: the bright and very decently appointed kitchen; the third floor "den" with the view and exposed brick (my study while we were there); the gas stove in the living room; comfortable king bed; back porch bird watching.... Being in residence so long, we had plenty of time to explore all the local restaurants and attractions, and to fully appreciate the perfect location: a few blocks from downtown in one direction, and a few blocks further in another direction, the harbor area, promenade and the more upscale touristy restaurants/bars. Pretty much anything in the downtown area is within walking distance from this townhouse. And Portland is a super vibrant town with tons to offer. Great music, amazing food.

We also have to say a few words about the owner, who is pretty terrific. Fair, responsive and easy to deal with. While we were there we had a few problems with locks and a leaking shower (the second floor shower/bathroom is in need of some general renovation; the owner knows this and is in the process of having it fixed now) and various other minor things. In every instance he was fast, responsive and flexible. This is an older property, absolutely fine and livable as-is, but with need for a little TLC here and there -- that second floor bathroom being the only big thing in need of work. The owner seems to know everything that's needed and keeps working to improve and update an already lovely, comfortable place. Overall, we were very impressed!

One word of caution: the neighbors to either side are NOT noise friendly. This is not a place to party or have loud late night fun. Steve has posted notices to this effect throughout the property, but we gathered from our limited interactions with the neighbors that even with those notices, noise from renters has been an issue for them. So it goes. As long as you're not hoping for loud, wild times on your visit (we weren't), no worries. But don't expect the neighbors to be glad to see you either.

We loved it and hope to be back again before too long!

The Best Place to Stay While Visiting Portland

We corresponded with the owner both by telephone and e-mail before we arrived. He was very helpful and friendly, suggesting local restaurants and going out of his way to help us find parking for our rental car. The apartment, really a three-story row house, was clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished, just as it was represented in the listing. There was even a small garden and deck where we had our morning coffee. The Victoria Mansion is practically across the street. The city of Portland is charming: with cobblestone streets and brick buildings built in the 1850's. We took the city bus tour and the port tour by boat, a great photo op. We even took the ferry to Peak's Island and rented bicycles. Our bus tour guide recommended the lobster rolls at Even Tide and we were not disappointed. We also dined at Dimillo's, famous for its lobster, and at Fore Street, as well 555 Congress Street, two of our favorite restaurants of all time. Oscars on Congress Street serves really good pizza, and the night we were there a four-person blue grass band played for us. Fantastic! We toured the Victoria Mansion as well as Longfellow's home and the Museum of Portland was beautiful and offered a good representation of art. The Standard Bakery on Commercial Street is not to be missed!!! We walked everywhere, both in the day time and at night, and felt completely at ease. We had a wonderful time in Portland partly because we had such a great place to stay. We would recommend the place we stayed to anyone who had time visit Portland.

Nice place close to downtown

We loved being close to downtown so we could walk everywhere and the accomodations where nice. From a woman's standpoint I wish there would have been a place to unpack clothes in either of the spare bedrooms and a mirror would have been nice but otherwise the place is really cute. There is no aircondition so if you are traveling in the summer be aware of that. Also if you have a large vehicle you have to park on the street. Nice, seemingly safe neighborhood with lots to do!

Excellent location with lots of charm

We came here for the Memorial Day Weekend to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. Wonderful house (beware the stairs are pretty steep and there are 3 floors). The first bedroom is on the second floor which has its own bathroom - beautiful views from each side and is very updated and clean. The 3rd floor has a den on one side with a pull out coach which is very comfortable and a shared bathroom with the second bedroom which has 2 beds. Again views on both sides - one of the water and the other of a lovely green space. Walking distance from all of the shopping and restaurants. The living room, dining room and kitchen have a lot of charm and are very homey and function able. Great experience and stay!

Perfect location and beautifully cozy

This townhouse was the perfect place for our family to get a taste of what living in Portland would be like. The location is perfect and only a 5-10 minute walk to any of the best restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping you would need during a stay in the city. The townhouse was incredibly clean and very cozy with a nice fireplace when the temperature drops. There is a designated parking spot for this townhouse which was also very convenient. The owner was so accommodating to our dates and available during our stay as well and even sent a list of some incredible restaurants which we really enjoyed. Stay here and you will not be disappointed!!!!

A great place to stay

This property had everything one could want in a home away from home. The living areas were a great place to hang out and socialize, the kitchen was a great convenience, and the location was fantastic.

We used it as a jumping off point for our time in Portland and were very happy. The Downtown area was close by and easy to walk to. It felt comfortable in a way that you can't really get with a hotel.

Overall it was a fantastic little spot and a great place to stay if you're in Portland.
