THIS IS WHAT OUR GUESTS ARE SAYING....
* The house was great and we had a fantastic time in Kauai. It is hard to get back into the daily grind again. I will contact you when we return to Kauai.

* We had a wonderful time at Shaka Hale. We absolutely loved the house, it is truly a gem - fantastically appointed and very beautiful. Mahalo for introducing us to this beautiful place.
GUESTS FROM CONCORD, MA
* Our stay in Kauai was great. Much because of this impressive house and friendly locals. It is not often that a house is even better than in the pictures! As you know I am a real estate professional, and this kind of rental property is rare. The community of Kekaha was really friendly. We often recived mangos on our door step, and we were invited to the 4th of July fireworks with the neighbors.
GUESTS FROM OSLO, NORWAY
* It was wonderful beyond words! I wish I was still there. I can't recall the last time I felt that relaxed. The house had every amenity one would ever need and was very beautiful and comfortable. Would it be redundant to say we found 'perfection in paradise'? I will check your web site 'cause I'm coming back!
GUESTS FROM HOUSTON, TX
* Oh....Gosh....I really swear that we could write a book to you about this property! We had an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G time! The house was absolutely perfect and the fact that it was directly across from the beach was even more perfect! We spent every evening grilling and chilling at the kitchen table. Either telling stories or talking about what we had experienced that day. This was a TRUE vacation for all of us. There were NO complaints from my family. We all were very sad to leave Kauai. We had 10 days of total sunshine on Kekaha, regardless of what was happening on the other sides of the island. THAT to me was amazing! We would literally drive 5 miles away from the house into clouds, rain and wind. Head back to Kekaha and had total sunshine and 84 degrees! I hate to think of what will happen to that pristine side once others figure out how beautifully consistent the weather is. This will forever be a vacation I won't forget! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
GUESTS FROM Palm Desert, CA
* We've returned from Kauai and are finding it hard to adjust to the Norther California climate. We had two wonderful weeks in Kekaha, and Shaka Hale had a lot to do with it. It was perfect for our family. It's a great house, and we all loved staying there. Thanks for all your advice and assistance. Aloha!

If you're like me, you have experienced disappointment upon arriving at the rental or resort of a well-planned vacation - that will NOT happen to you with this house!
As soon as you open the door of Shaka Hale, you feel as though you are being welcomed into the lovely home of a friend. It is beautifully decorated; elegant, yet comfortable. Nothing has been overlooked to ensure that your stay is anything but enjoyable: fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, plenty of linens (including beach towels), quality mattresses/bed linens, washer/dryer and 2nd refrigerator in the garage - we even discovered multiple beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling sets and boogie boards. A pleasant surprise!
My family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys over 6') was joined by 4 other adult family members - and we never felt crowded. The 2 separate living areas and multiple lanais provided personal space for those who wanted to relax or read, yet the roomy, open floor plan downstairs allowed us to gather for meals and plan our next day of adventure!
A road separates the house from the ocean, but the landscaping you see in the picture provides a buffer - as well as a path to the long, sandy beach that awaits your morning walks :).
We never had rain on this sunny side of the island during our stay, though you probably will get wet if you visit the East or North shores. This house is conveniently located to Waimea Canyon, and it's an easy drive to the beaches and restaurants in Poipu, Spouting Horn and the Allerton Gardens. We actually appreciated being able to return to our quiet "neighborhood" after a full day of sightseeing or adventure and enjoy a glass of wine on one of the lanais, watching the sun set over the ocean :).
Must-dos: snorkeling at one of the many beaches in Poipu, Waimea Canyon, Napali Coast boat tour, North Shore (how many shades of green are there?!), shave ice at Hee Fat in Kapa'a, Allerton Gardens (bring bug spray!), air tour, sunset dinner at The Beach House.
Last, but not least, Chad (rental agent) is amazing to work with! From my first inquiry he was very responsive, generous with his time, and went out of his way to be informative and helpful - ensuring that our stay would be memorable. He even facilitated having a "happy first anniversary" sign I made being hung in the house to greet my niece before our arrival! Our experience was that we weren't just another "transaction" to him.
Shaka Hale - and Kauai - awaits you . . . :)
"Shaka Hale" is absolutely beautiful, much more than expected! The pictures in the listing are great but to open the door and walk into "paradise" with all the trimmings, I just couldn't have asked for more! The house was spotless, bathrooms were very clean and the whole place in and out was very well maintained! Very comfortable beds, everyone slept great. So many soft fluffy towels, way more than you would expect! There were eight in our party, the newly weds and two families coming together, we had great times together and yet there was plenty of space to just get away by yourself if you wanted! The suites (2) we're amazing! The kitchen had everything and more! We cooked in severally times after long days exploring! There was everything from buggie boards (3), many beach chairs, snorkel sets, etc, for us to use! So let me tell you about the location, it was sunny EVERYDAY!!! Even if it was cloudy or overcast north of us! Sunsets were spectacular!!! Plus the Canyon was literally right up the road, Polihale Beach was beautiful, but I loved Queens Pond even better and it's just up the road! Perfect for families with old or young, good swimming for kids too! The other beach I really liked was Salt Pond, very family friendly, good swimming and lots of public facilities, use the cooler, pack lunch, and have a great time! Don't miss the Shrimp Shack in Wiamea, great shrimp tacos! We did take a couple days to travel North, only 30 minutes to Lihue and another 30 or so to the furthest location Ke'e Beach. Don't miss the light house with sanctuary, watching the birds as they we're settling in to the cliffs was a riot! Ps...beautiful sunset just up the road! Chad was wonderful to work with, the whole process was a breeze, and the information in the notebook he had on the coffee table was loaded with things to do, places to go, and much more! My mom left her new Croc sandals after we left and Chad made sure she got them! He made her day and mine! When I return to Kauai I will definitely stay here again!!! I've already recommended this home to several people!!! Thank you Chad for making this a wonderful vacation for my whole family! Mahalo!
Beautiful new home elegantly appointed with spectacular views of the ocean and sunsets. My wife and I stayed for 10 days of which our two adult kids and significant others joined us for 3 days. Lots of room. Several separate areas to read or watch TV even with 6 people in the house. Everything was first class. Four very nice bedrooms. 3/1/2 baths. surround deck. Attached garage with dishwasher/dryer units. We had bikes and rode for miles. I didn't try snorkeling in the beach directly across from the house but was tempted. Probably will next time. There's always a few people fishing from the beach so there must be marine life out there. We did walk the beach several times. The road to Waimea Canyon starts a half mile from the house. Its a must see. I think its 17 miles up the winding road. There's views of the Waimea falls are amazing. People bike it but the traffic looked a little heavy for our comfort so we just did it by car and hiked some of the trails. The property manager is Chad and he lives literally next door and is Johnny on the spot for anything he can do to be helpful. In our case he lent me some tools to repair our bikes and suggested places to ride and beaches to swim. There's a road between the house and the beach. It has traffic from time to time but mostly is fairly light. There's a path to the beach from the house that crosses it. No problem for adults but children would need supervision. The beach directly across from the house has had a rock retaining wall created to stop beach erosion. It's easy enough to go down or you can walk to the left about 30 yards to a sandy area. There are a few informal places to eat in Waimea if you want a break from cooking or you can venture in to the Poipu area. We did both and prefer just staying local. There's a sports bar at the Cottages that is actually pretty good, also a Fish Taco place that we liked called Island Taco as well as several others in Waimea
We have actually stayed at this beautiful place for the past 7 years! It is spacious, well kept, and the kitchen is a cook's dream. They have a slow cooker, coffee grinder, great pots and pans ( All-Clad for the most part) and a few things even I didn't recognize! I do bring my own knives, so can't comment there, but then again I have never looked for anything that wasn't found in the perfectly aligned drawers or cabinets. The grill outside rocks also. I am not a fan of grills I am not familiar with, but this one does the job and is always well kept up and clean when we have arrived.
Nothing beats sitting out on the lanai watching the whales cruise on by, or waiting for that elusive "green flash". At this house you have a choice of sitting upstairs on the lanai that is adjoining the master of master bedrooms, or you can sit out on the first floor and see pretty much the same thing. Regardless of where you choose, the views are spectacular!
This is probably the best rental house in all of Kauai if you are not into the resort thing. It is on the west side, aka: most likely to see sun, it is a stone's throw from the route up to the Kokee Hiking, and it is right on the ocean. Be advised that there is a road between you and that, but that being said, if you are beach people, you would be going to Poipu and not Kekaha,
This is absolutely the best VRBO property we have ever experienced!
My family of 6 with grown children visited Kauai for the first time before Christmas. Our stay was enhanced by staying in this lovely and well appointed home, It is furnished with everything you can imagine needing for your stay. The most outstanding activity on our visit twas the helicopter tour over the
Na Pali coast. Although the island is small, drive time to other parts of the island can take longer than you expect because of low speed limits. We also enjoyed snorkeling at Salt Pond Beach and Poipu beach, shopping at the farmer's markets, kayaking into Hanalei Bay,visiting botanical gardens and waterfalls, touring the Waimea coffee plantation, watching the Waimea Christmas parade, angoing to art night in "Hanapepe., and driving up the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.
This was our first Hawaiian vacation as a family; my husband and stepdaughters have often visited Maui, and are used to a busy resort, and the manufactured experience that comes with that: this was not that.
What it is, is an absolutely gorgeous home, appointed with every convenience, in a setting that is nothing short of breathtaking. The upstairs master bedroom, furnished porches and main indoor living areas all look out on the Pacific--just incredible views! The house sits in a real neighborhood, which we loved. Chickens wandered, and birds called every morning....charming. Comfortable beds, beautiful bathrooms, lovely furnishings and art....the home was a wonderful place to just be. The kitchen was fantastic--we cooked regularly for our group of 8, and found everything we needed--plus there is a gas grill. (Tip: Costco in Lihue had amazing fresh ahi!) We appreciated having a washer and dryer to use, and loads of fresh towels.
The owners and manager have gone to the nth degree to provide a special experience for their guests; they succeeded!
The island of Kauai is so special--friendly, low-key, very beautiful. The feeling was very different than Maui, where often the locals seem to resent visitors. We drove the 11 miles to Waimea Canyon, and, although my 80 year old mom could not have hiked in, she was very comfortable walking up to the overlooks. Incredibly beautiful, and really worth the drive. We thoroughly enjoyed the Friday night art walk in Hanapepe; lovely, small local galleries, music and food. Found a couple of Farmers Markets, which were a great, really affordable place for buying produce from local sellers. There is a cute antiques store in Waimea, on the east side of the main road toward the end of town, that was a fun place to browse for Hawaiiana and general old stuff. We also especially enjoyed Koloa town, especially Christian Riso's gallery.
Beaches: the one across the road from the house, while beautiful, was not easily accessible while we were there. (Chad has addressed this in the description.) But there were wonderful beaches within a reasonable distance; Salt Pond was great for our little grandchild, and we all loved the beaches at Poipu.
If you haven't experienced the private home vacation experience, you owe it to yourself. This is a remarkable place. Realize that there is traffic, there is a constantly changing sea. And go ready to meet new people, see wonderful things, and have a uniquely memorable experience.
