SPACIOUS FARMHOUSE

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Cussay - La Roche d'Enchaille

Once the farm to the Châteaux de Cussay

La Roche d'Enchaille is a barn conversion located between the medieval market towns of Ligueil and Descartes; ideally positioned for exploring the Loire Valley and its Châteaux. Set in to a hillside with a wood behind, La Roche d'Enchaille enjoys uninterrupted views of the surrounding rolling farmland and woodlands. The accommodation is a careful restoration and conversion of the farm to the Châteaux de Cussay, this dates back to 1268 when the first record of the châteaux can be traced as being sold to Guy the Doyen of St Martin. The main West-facing wall is formed from the original châteaux ramparts and vestiges of these are present through out the grounds as well as entrances to caves and tunnels. The locals swear there is a tunnel linking La Roche d’Enchaille with the Church in the centre of Cussay some 5 km away. The châteaux had several roles during its long history, including operating as a mint striking coinage back in the 16th century and more recently as a “Relais de Post'.

Beautiful house in peaceful location.

  • 5 out of 5
This is the best house we have stayed in over many years taking holidays in France. It is in a very peaceful location amid fields of sunflowers and owls and other birds of prey seen from the garden.
The house is spacious, bright and comfortable and very well equipped throughout. The indoor games area with table tennis and darts and the boules pitch outside and the large selection of bicycles were well used.
Garth and Liz were the perfect hosts steeping in as needed but otherwise staying in the background. Buster (the dog) was great company.
Shops and places to visit were not far away. We particularly enjoyed visiting Leonardo da Vinci's last residence at Chateau du Clos Luce was well worth a visit.

Beautiful property in a peaceful setting

  • 5 out of 5
We spent a delightful week in probably the best equipped and presented property that we have had the fortune to rent. It was just like having all the comforts of home but with beautiful sunshine and a view over fields of sunflowers. Garth and Liz were two friendly and helpful hosts and the infamous Buster visited every morning and evening to check how we were.

Descartes and Loches are both close by and most of the main Chateaux are easily reachable. Particular mentions of places to visit would have to go to Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise and Parc Beauval (Pandas!).

All in all, highly recommended. Many Thanks.

Beautiful house in a wonderful setting

  • 5 out of 5
Had a week here with my family of 5 and had a fantastic time. The house is beautiful, spacious, charming and well equiped and was the central part of a fantastic holiday. The region has so much to offer and following a coffee in the sun on the terrace overlooking the acres of sunflowers it was hard to choose between any of the fantastic options all within an hours drive or to stay in the farm house and relax with only the sound of farm activity, happy children and the metalic clank of the petanque balls !!! Would stay again in a heart beat and cannot recommend this property highly enough.

Even lovelier than it looks in the pictures

  • 5 out of 5
From the cheery welcome from Buster, the owners dog, to our last evening with wine and cheese from the region, our entire stay was a dream of comfort, beauty, and charm. Divinely secluded and yet easy for chateaux and wine tours in the beautiful Touraine. Perfect hosts, perfect stay. A place to return to again and again. Thanks to Garth and Liz and Buster and Sinbad and Taz for the memories. See you again!!

Amazing Stay

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed in this lovely property for 1 week in September 2011 with our 2 young children. The property was very comfortable, with everything we could possibly need thoughtfully considered by the owners. The property was immaculately clean and the location, amongst the fields, was idyllic. Our hosts Garth and Elizabeth made us all feel very welcome and we appreciated them being on hand to answer our questions about the local area. We found the local area very charming. We enjoyed many day trips to local villages and markets. We enjoyed our stay here and would love to return some time in the future.

The most relaxing place

  • 5 out of 5
The gite is located in a really beautiful location that takes your breath away, if you're lucky you'll spot deer, owls and foxes in the fields that surround it. It is extremely well furnished and equipped- especially the kitchen including every sort of cooking utensil, pots and pans even down to French Country cook books!! There is a games room to keep the kids (whatever age happy) bikes to borrow, extremely fast internet connection. The owners really have gone the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable and homely as possible as well as stylish whilst keeping the old charm of the building - with beautiful old beams and windows.
The owners were extremely friendly and helpful from the welcome basket of essentials such as bread, milk, coffee, tea etc, down to suggesting local markets, château's and good local restaurants. They have an adorable dog Buster who definitely deserves a mention as he welcomed us home everyday with a waggy tail and made us miss our dog slightly less.
We have already booked to return in the spring and could not recommend La Roche d'Enchaille highly enough.
Thank you Garth and Liz for a completely stress free week in your beautiful Gite looking forward to being back in 2012
