About Darrel & Merrie Edmonds

Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams & have been married 41 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Merrie grew up in the area, and has always called it 'home', she loves the mountains, pines and the quiet pace of the location.

Darrel & Merrie Edmonds purchased this house in 2007

Why Darrel & Merrie Edmonds chose Williams

We purchased the acre in 2002 and dreamed of the day we would see our cabin there on the property. We drew the plans and sub-contracted the construction beginning in 2005, the home was, for the most part, completed in 2007. We have enjoyed the process, and have been doing some finishing touches since then. We are confident you will enjoy the property, and make many happy memories there.

What makes this house unique

There is a peacefulness you'll feel when staying at our home, and the proximity to the Grand Canyon, Williams, Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, Flagstaff and Sedona makes our home perfect for daily outings taking in all the sites. We enjoy taking the family to the cabin to enjoy the cool weather in summer. The smell of the pines, relaxing around the fire pit and taking walks in the forest, along with the occasional sightings of the deer, elk and antelope in the area are a welcome change of pace. The Kaibab squirrels that live in the neighborhood enjoy the handouts and are very entertaining. Winters are beautiful with the fresh snow, sledding and holidays in front of the fireplace with the scent of cedar wood, freshly baked cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. Christmas in Williams is a sight to see, with the lighting of the huge Christmas tree, and boarding the Polar Express is a joy for the kiddies, young and old. Bearizona Wildlife Park and The Deer Farm are a must see, near Williams, only a few miles away. (Sorry, we do not host pets in consideration of those with allergies)

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a gorgeous Getaway. I definitely recommend this lovely chalet for your next trip to the Grand Canyon or the Flagstaff area. A cozy home in either winter or summer. We found it to have a lovely well-stocked kitchen...perfect for our family getaway. The living & dining areas are very spacious and our group of 8 was easily accommodated. Thanks for a lovely time....we'll definitely be returning.

Fantastic stay at a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Gateway Cottage for a couple of days this spring and the house is just gorgeous. Beautifully decorated, the house has a real cabin in the woods feel with all modern amenities including a washer/dryer and wifi. The scenic woods surrounding the cottage adds to the sense of peace - the views from every window and patio are lovely. The house was well-stocked with all the required basics. We made day trips to the Grand Canyon which is about a 1 hour drive. Our entire family enjoyed every bit of our stay and very reluctantly left. If we travel to the Grand Canyon again, we hope to stay at this same location!

Amazing Home! Great Esperience

  • 5 of 5

First off this home is amazing it is tucked away in a beautiful landscape and offered every amenity one could ask for. The house was well kept and furnished. My wife , I and 5 children had a blast it is located far enough out of the way to enjoy the wilderness but close enough to the town and any of it's attractions to make a quick trip to all. We has a fantastic time and could not ask for a better host!

Wonderful Home!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect home for my family! Everyone was comfortable, and the home was perfect for our trips to the National Parks in the area. Peaceful, clean and cozy! My teenager and older parents stayed for Spring Break. Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert and Bearizona were the highlights of the trip. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home!

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying in this beautiful home for Christmas. It was very warm and welcoming. I loved all the details in every room. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need. We had three families (including 6 kids) together for Christmas. There was plenty of space and fun for the kids. Christmas Eve, we took the kids to the Polar Express which was only a fifteen minute drive. Christmas day, it snowed! The kids enjoyed playing outside and roasting marshmallows by the campfire. We had so much fun, nobody wanted to leave. We would love to make it a new family tradition. Merrie is great! After the stay, I contacted her to find out if my daughter left her favorite stuffed animal there, she did, Merrie saved it and sent it back! I definitely rate this place and customer service with five stars!

Owner's Response: I'm so happy to know you all had such a great time, and that it snowed on Christmas! The home and surrounding area are so pretty with snow. It was our pleasure to get your daughter's toy back to her, we had a similar experience when our daughter was very young. Our grandkids love going to the Polar Express as well, and Bearizona is a BIG hit with them. I hope you are able to return again, we would love to host your family.
