Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Sainte-Mere-Eglise - Ferme de l'Eglise
Cottage or loft apartment within 3 acre grounds of 400 yr farmhouse

A self catering open plan loft apartment in our converted hay barn or our sweet little cottage a former boulangerie are perfect for discerning couples looking for a base to explore Normandy & benefit from peace, quiet and privacy.

Set within the grounds of large country house set in 3 acres, both have separate entrances, secure parking and completely self contained... if you don't want to see us you don't!

We're 8kms from Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan - 10 minutes from Utah Beach & in the heart of the Park Naturel.

We've tried to think of everything! Free wifi, TV, free to view SKY TV, ipod dock, DVD player - masses of movies to include The Longest Day & Band of Brothers. Log wood burner, candles, bed made up with 100% cotton crisp linen, plenty of towels, toweling bathrobes...we leave out guest soaps, loo rolls and cleaning products as well. The bed 6' wide x 6'6'

This is a child free zone... no traffic jams, stress and certainly none of the hustle and bustle of city living

Utah Beach & Regional Park: Set in Normandy within Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. WW2 Utah Beach the Invasion beach, located less than 10 minutes from us, is a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres.

The area is stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing.

This coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty.

This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.

The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war Normandy Landing Beaches, 101st Airborne or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!

Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded. With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals.

Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally

Cycling & Walking & Invasion Beaches: We are set in the heart of the Normandy D Day Invasion beaches with WW2 Utah Beach 10 minutes away, Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan both 8 kms from us & as we are 2 minutes from N13 we are in an ideal location for easy access to go sight seeing, war tours etc.

Bayeux, Mont St Michel are just short drives away, it is even possible to go to Jersey for the day from here!

Animals - We're know as Arc de Noah here in our village! we have 2 Llamas. 2 kune kune pet pigs, 2 very friendly goats, 2 sheep, lots and lots of bantam & silkie chickens all at liberty, 1 goose, 2 turkeys, 3 young Jack Russell's that live for visitors! & 2 little old dogs aged 18 & 12 & 5 cats.

Cycling or walking holidays...1,000 km of trails for cycling with one of the 22km routes starting outside our gate!

If you like local produce then there are many farms open to the general public, where you can see the produce being made and buy some to take home. It's possible to have tours round the Camembert factories.

Details for holiday cottage Cottage, 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2, 1 Bathroom

A former boulangerie, we have converted it into a sweet little cottage. downstairs is the lounge TV DVD and SKY free to view, leading into kitchen with french doors that leads into the delightful dining conservatory which almost floats on the pond. We are totally ecological - all our products are biological, no chemicals, recycled containers, not tested on animals, recycling is part of our terms to help with this there is even a water filter. The cottage backs out directly on to the best view of the garden - the pond with it's fish, water lillies & hundreds of black & green frogs... quite often goosey goose too! As you dine in the conservatory you can watch the Llamas and the other animals go about their 'hectic' lifestyle! Upstairs is a double bedroom... but please note the ceiling is sloping so anyone that is very tall this may not be for you! I'm sorry but unsuitable for children... we are a child free zone for couple only breaks.

Perfect Cottage for Recreation and Sightseeing

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 06 June 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Arriving in Houesville we found a homelike, complete furnished Cottage, which was arranged with a passion for details. There is a comfortable living room, a lovely bedroom under the roof, an absolutely complete equipped citchen with a dining table and a newly build bathroom which gave us a wellness-feeling.

At the back side of the Cottage there is a terrace with table, seats and sunloungers and a beatiful view on a pond and the big garden, which is enlived by various animals (chicken, cats, frogs, dogs, etc.) - it's an idyll!

Houesville is well located (direct connection to motorway N13) to discover the Cotentin peninsula with their varied offers of nature, culture, history and recreation.

What made this holidays absolutely perfect were the pretty nice hosts Tansy and Mike who were attentively in every way and made us feel good from the very first second.

Thank you very much! Judith & Ferry

Recommanded for: Romantic Getaway, Sightseeing, Nature, Recreation

Vielen Dank! Judith & Ferry

Great Vacation

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 August 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
My husband and I stayed in the cottage in mid-June of 2012 and had a fantastic time. The cottage was incredible, so much charm and convenience, it really made our vacation enjoyable and relaxing. It is the perfect size for a couple, and the sun room overlooking the pond and farm was basically where we spent all our time. The location is fantastic, its just down the road from Carentan and more importantly, probably the best WWII museum in the area, Dead Man’s Corner. Also, there are large markets as well as farmers markets a short drive down the road, making the kitchen essential. Overall, the location was fantastic for all the main historic, natural and cultural site in the area. There were many fantastic restaurants in the area including L’Estaminet in Ste. Marie du Mont, the food was fantastic and the town was quiet, beautiful and probably under a mile from Utah Beach. The entire trip was fantastic, due in large part to the cottage renters, who were gracious, informative, friendly and just enhanced the whole experience. We had an absolutely fantastic time and look forward to our next visit. Nous aimons Normandy!

Your own cottage on the farm

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 29 July 2012 Date of Stay: July 2012
We spent a week at Ferme de l'Eglise and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cottage is a lovely mix of the old and the new - historic lounge and bedroom and very modern kitchen, bathroom and conservatory/ dining room. Tansy and Mike have equipped the cottage with everything you could need for your stay, including bath robes, books, bikes, DVDs and kitchen and bathroom supplies. They are truly wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome, as did Simon who met us on arrival. Tansy had sent us a very comprehensive information package including exact details on how to locate the cottage all the way to Australia when we booked. Nothing is overlooked to make sure that you enjoy your time with them.

The cottage has a very good internet connection and lots of satellite TV channels to choose from.

It was a treat for us to be on a small farm surrounded by so many animals who we were free to interact with if we wished.
Owner's Response: Thank you so very much...we enjoyed meeting you guys.

As you mention Simon was here to oversee as we had to go to the UK for a family wedding, he's a guy on our wave length so am thrilled you felt welcome as soon as you arrived! With all the creatures here it's very hard for us to get away so we're now just wedding and funeral channel hoppers!

14 day trip ...part 2

Review Submitted: 30 April 2012 Date of Stay: April 2012
The best part of the experience was, undoubtedly, Tansy and Mike.  From the moment we arrived until the moment we pulled away, they made us feel like we were at home.  They gave us all the space we needed to enjoy our stay and explore Normandy, but were always available if we needed their assistance.  They invited us into their residence for dinner and treated us like family.  By the end of the visit, we did not want to leave.  We cannot thank them enough for their warm hospitality and for bending over backwards to ensure our first-class treatment at every turn.  We are already planning our next stay for the same time next year.  If you are coming to Normandy, this is definitely the place to stay.

14 day trip round Europe!

Review Submitted: 30 April 2012 Date of Stay: April 2012
Our stay at Tansy and Mike’s cottage was the highlight of our 14 day trip across Europe. Centrally located between St. Mere Eglise and Carentan, the property sits at the heart of all the most intense action of the D-Day invasion and is a great location from which to explore the rest of the sites in the Normandy area. It is secluded from the hustle and bustle of the major tourist areas and offers a truly authentic way to enjoy the countryside as it looked in 1944.

Upon our rather late arrival, we received the warmest welcome from Tansy and Mike who greeted us with their cavalcade of canines and whisked us into the cottage. Tansy ensured we were familiarized with the accommodations and, after realizing we were famished due to our long journey from the Netherlands, called ahead to reserve us a table at the John Steele Inn. When we returned from our wonderful dinner, Tansy had prepared for us a very informative packet of attractions in the area and prioritized our limited time to ensure we were able to see as much as possible. We followed her recommendations and it enabled us to see all the best of Normandy.

The cottage is magnificent. It is, quite literally, something out of a storybook. The authentic structure oozes character and we fell in love with it at first site. As you walk inside, Tansy has done a brilliant job of delivering 21st century interior design and amenities without sacrificing the 17th century charm of the cottage. With all updated appliances and fixtures, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare your own meals if you decide to dine in. You will enjoy eating on the all glass dining nook that lets you marvel at the pastoral view of the surrounding farmland from the comfort of the cottage. The bathroom is large and the water pressure from the shower is superb. The bed is comfortable and at night the area is deafeningly quiet. There is internet access via Wi-Fi and the satellite TV has hundreds of channels. The wood burning stove adds an element of romanticism to the already idyllic country splendor.
