Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in San Lorenzo - Reitani - Casa Cugno

Only 2 km from a picturesque fishing village, and 15 km from beautiful town Noto

This villa is in San Lorenzo, a beach resort, just 2 km from the fishing village Marzamemi, only 100 meters from a beautiful sandy beach. A footpath leads from the villa straight to the beach with crystal clear bathing waters. In the nearby town Marzamemi are local bars and good restaurants. The villa distances only 1 km from the stunning coastal reserve of 'Vendicari', great for walks and swimming. The village Marzamemi boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as swordfish or cherry tomatoes.

The enormous garden (appr. 2.400 mq.) surrounding the terrace is characterised by palm trees and prickly pear cacti, called “ficodindia”. The villa consists of two double bedrooms on the first floor (one with child bed), a bathroom with shower, a living room, a spacious kitchen with dining table and wood oven. The terrace with large shaded cover is ideal for outdoor eating, and aperitifs after a day at the beach, which is just behind the corner.

The Area: San Lorenzo marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Here the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches, turquoise seas and white limestone rocks. San Lorenzo borders on the natural reserve of ‘Vendicari’. Here you’ll find a breathtaking variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, exotic beaches and Byzantine ruins. It is also a veritable oasis of rest and tranquillity for an array of bird species. Heading south towards the south-eastern tip of Sicily, you find a fishing village called Portopalo. Taking the road from Marzamemi to Portopalo, but turning off before an impressive castle on the sea, one can turn left and visit the old ‘Tonnara’, one of the most scenic and extraordinary sights to be seen in Sicily. Noto, a magnificent little city famous for its stunning Baroque architecture, lies 10 kilometres away. You can’t miss the traditional afternoon stroll down its main street.

Marzamemi: Marzamemi lies 2 kilometres to the south of San Lorenzo. The fisherman’s village has a Promenade, a beautiful Piazza and a port with vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Only recently has it become a popular destination for Italians who enjoy the combination of the area’s natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village. The village boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish or the famous cherry tomatoes from nearby Pachino.

Syracuse: Syracuse is a historic city in southern Italy, the capital of the province of Syracuse. The city is noted for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture and association to Archimedes, playing an important role in ancient times as one of the top powers of the Mediterranean world; it is over 2,700 years old. Syracuse is located in the south-east corner of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Syracuse next to the Ionian Sea.

About Giulia Lattanzio / Joris Doesburg

“We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best. We quickly reply in the language you feel more comfortable with. We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We advise you as much as we can about about travel info, transfers and car rental. Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Once in the house you can always count on our reliable keyholders. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is often possible. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs.”

Outside good , inside bad.

  • 2 of 5

On arrival the house was infested with ants. When we phoned to complain we were told that this was normal. No hot water in the kitchen . Stairs without adequate bannisters. No extra sheets provided for 9 night stay. Washing machine not reliable as it blew the fuses. Towels few, worn and thin .

We never met the owner, only his non English speaking mother. Despite the only local shop having closed down, not even a bottle of drinking water provided on arrival at dusk.

I have stayed in many self catering rentals, am reasonable and practical but I have never been so disappointed as with this house.

The lack of a facility to translate the critical reviews of this house is a big shortcoming . I doubt I would have chosen Casa Cugno if I had been able to translate all the reviews.

Great house!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house for 2 weeks, Summer of 2013. We enjoyed the 'dolce vita' because of the warm weather, food and of course the great house Casa Cugno! The beach is on walking distance, there is a sandy beach (which we prefer the most)! In the evening we went to take an ice-cream in San Lorenzo, such a cute place!!! And you find there shops, restaurants. Truly amazing 2 weeks and for sure we'll come back!!

This is a lovely house close to a good beach

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely house with easy access to a good beach with good paddling/swimming/snorkelling/diving off rocks. We went in september and it was still very very hot (a bit too hot for pregnant women + small children)

The heat prevented us from doing much sightseeing but Noto and Syracusa are well worth a visit. The nearby nature reserve at Vendacari has excellent beaches (you can actually walk to some of them from the villa) and interesting walks and wildlife

There is a shop for basics (bread, wine) within walking distance and good drinking/nighttime strolling/eating out in Marzimemi. Fish meat and veg can be bought from a little street just behind the main square in Pachino

Nico the key holder is extremely nice and helpful.

Une villa où l'on se sent bien

  • 4 of 5
