A recently renovated Cortijo, Las Rosas with 3 casitas in the midst of tranquil olive groves. Inspected, recommended and featured in the guidebook 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay in Spain 2009 & 2011'.
As well as being within easy reach of the cultural centres of Granada, Codoba, Ronda, Antequera, Seville and Malaga, Las Rosas is very close to a huge lake which provides spectacular views for drivers, walkers and cyclists.
The property is a 1.25 hour drive from both Malaga and Granada airports.
Marylynne and Gillian are well traveled sisters, born in South Africa, schooled in the U.K. and who lived in the Middle East much of their lives. As a mother who self-catered with two children many times, Marylynne has equipped the casitas to the highest level.
Marylynne and Gillian purchased this cottage in 2003
Cortijo las Rosas is situated uniquely placed to provide easy access to the monuments of the great Andalucian cities and yet also give you peace and tranquility beside the pool. A place which gives you a mix of cultural sightseeing and total relaxation.
Situated in the middle of olive groves with wonderful views from the pool side and many of the casitas. Bird song rather than the noise of traffic.
For longer time I had a wish like most people have. Writing a book, so I started about 1,5 year ago. But because I have a business company I couldn't finish in time. So I told mij boyfriend I wanted to stay somewhere to finish the book. And I said I wanted to stay somewhere in the Netherlands. But he said: Why don't you go to France, Portugal or Spain? He had to tell me once. I searched on the internet and I found Cortijo del Rosas after I had seen more than hundred houses everywhere. I love Andalusié for the people who live there. The hills with hundreds, thousands of olive trees and the nice places. But most of all I loved Iznajar at the lake and the place Gillian & Marylynne have made there up in the mountains. I felt home directly and enjoyed their kindness and hospitality. The house was very nice like the whole place. Quiet, peaceful and inspiring. Thank you again, Gillian, Marylynne and Steve. I felt very happy to be with you, Iris
This is a wonderfully restored property, in the rural countryside. The owners have thought of everything to make your holiday the best. The quality of workmanship and range of equipment in the Casitas are the best we have ever had. Nothing was too much for them to supply.
A car is a must but driving is not so difficult. I had more problems getting out from East Midlands Airport to the M1 and home than at any time on the holiday. The path around the house is cobbles, looks lovely but if you do have problems it could be difficult. I would certainly recommend staying here for the views, real Spanish villages lots of history and plenty to see, if you can tear yourself away from the pool and quiet!
Cortijo Las Rosas is a beautiful property situated way up in the hills you are surrounded by Olive groves. The individual casitas (there are 3) are comfortable, immaculate ,well stocked well maintained. Lots of helpful information from the owners re local activities and very friendly customer service.
The pool and the hilltop views are very relaxing.
Driving up the hill the first time was a bit daunting, and some nights were hot but a fan was provided. We stayed two weeks and loved it.
Rural Spain with a road that was tricky. Be sure that your rental has enough power and whatever you do, don't get of the road!
The instructions that were send to us came in handy: print them out and take them with you.
The setting is beautiful, the swimmingpool looks over the valley.
The casita has all that it needs and more: rice, sugar, coffee, herbs, oil, vinegear, ...
It comes in handy since we weren't that keen on driving back down the mountain.
The only downside was that we could think of was that their were a couple of rules to much about the (hot) water, the plants, check out and the beds, ...
If you don't mind the road and want a place away from everything: this is it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our six night stay at the smallest of the casitas, Casita Galgo. The accommodation itself was clean, comfortable and extremely well-equipped. We especially appreciated the welcome package which was there for us after the long drive from Madrid. We thought that the fact that our living room was above our bedroom and accessible by an outside staircase might be problematic, but in fact we enjoyed having the two quite separate spaces. (Fortunately, the weather was perfect). We found the general location to be excellent for one day excursions to Grenada, Cordoba, Priego, Nerja and other destinations or for simply exploring the magnificent Andalusian countryside. We were also able to enjoy local walks through the tranquil olive groves and to listen to birdsong uninterrupted by the sounds of traffic or aircraft. Such peace! For the longer trips, Gillian and Marylynne were able to give us very useful driving directions and hints on the best places to park in the larger centres. Over the years, we have rented self-catering villas in various parts of the world, and would rate this as one of the best, so good in fact that we hope to return.
The accommodation and hosts, Gillian and Marylynne, lived up to advanced billing and we had a very enjoyable stay at Cortijo las rosas. A great location, not just for strolls amongst the olive groves but for day visits to Iznajar, Antequerra, Priego de Cordoba and elsewhere. The recommendation to dine at Casa Piolas in Algarinejo was appreciated and one of the best meals we have ever had. Visiting during holy week was a bonus in this area and the Friday procession in nearby Iznajar is worth the visit. We have stayed in similar houses elsewhere and this was one of the nicest - well maintained with friendly and helpful hosts (the welcome pack is a nice idea). I would recommend this property to anyone.
I never spent a holiday in a scenery like here. With the nearest village at a 15 minute drive and the closest supermarket at a 30 minute drive you are obliged to relax and take it easy. And that was exactly what we needed. Although a first drive to the casita in the dark can be quite excited, you'll appreciate the peace and quiet surroundings once you get to discover the area by daylight. We had a wonderful holiday here, enjoying the swimming pool and our casita. We felt more than welcome and at home here, and that's to the account of the casita's owners Gillian and Marylynne. Rural Andalucia left a great impression, mostly due to it's never ending olive tree (olive trees as far as the eye can see!) ranches and rough landscapes.
Ideally situated, it can be reached with a journey of about 1-1/2 hours from Malaga and a little less from Granada Airport. It is also located on the crossroads between all the major cities in Andalucia, allowing for day trips to Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Malaga as well as the towns and beaches of the Costa del Sol.
Set up in the mountains some 8 km from the town of Iznajar, Cortijo Las Rosas is located close to the largest lake in Anadalucia. This provides us with an inland beach right on the edge of the Subbetica, which is a national park dotted with those beautiful ‘white villages’.
Other Activities: bird watching
