Cozy `Ohi`a Kai Cottage is situated in the front of our property in downtown Kapa`a on the beautiful Garden Island of Kaua`i. Ohi`a Kai Cottage is just one block from the beach near downtown Kapa`a.

`Ohi`a Kai Cozy Cottage is on a quite street downtown' Kapa`a on the east side of Kaua`i. Recent upgrades include new paint, new bed, additional double sink. We have Turbo internet (up to 20/2Mbps) with our WiFi.

Ohi`a Kai Cottage is a charming hideaway for the budget-conscious traveler. Inside one will find a small living room including full-sized futon couch. Inner doors lead to a small bedroom with queen-size bed, breakfast area, bathroom with shower, and sun room. Amenities include televisions, VCR and DVD players, small refrigerator, coffee maker, dresser, clothes rack, beach mats, towels, sheets, dishes and eating utensils. We do not provide toiletry amenities other than soap. Lush tropical vegetation surrounds the property, including banana, mango, noni, coconut, bamboo, and panax.

Ohi`a Kai Cottage is a charming hideaway for the budget-conscious traveler looking for a discount. Ideal for a couple or small family. New Serta pillow-top queen mattress in the bedroom and full bed in living room offer privacy and comfort for you and the kids. Pocket doors connect the living room to the bedroom on the left and the 'family room' on the right. Beyond the family room is a small room with full refrigerator and small computer table and last but not least, the bathroom with shower and assist bars around toilet.

There is not a full kitchen but we do have a microwave, toaster oven, toaster, electric skillet, hot plate, George Foreman electric B-BQ. grill.and by request a tabletop convection oven (glass).

Outside of the cottage is a double wide porcelain sink and a propane B-BQ grill.

Other amenities include television +cable, turbo WiFi Internet access, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, beach chairs and mats, towels, sheets, dishes and eating utensils. Guests in the cottage and the vacation rental house on the property share the laundry room, and access to bogey boards and several bicycles. Lush tropical vegetation abounds on the property, including banana, mango, noni, banana, mock orange and panax.

Three rooms have a/c units; living room, bedroom and family room also the cottage has 3 ceiling fans. Bamboo flooring and cotton linens are among the eco-conscious considerations in the cottage. Dogs with well-behaved owners are permitted. A $50 additional pet cleaning fee will apply.

The cottage is situated across from a church parking lot on a side street, close enough to town to be convenient, but far enough away from the main road to not hear any traffic from Kuhio Hwy.

Ohi`a Kai is approximately nine miles from Lihue Airport, a 20-minute drive at non-peak times. Haena State Park, at the end of the road when driving north, is about an hour’s drive, as is Kekaha, the southwestern end of the road. Haena is where you’ll find Ke`e Beach and the trailhead to the spectacular Na Pali Coast trail.

Some popular visitor destinations and their approximate driving times include Kealia Beach ½ mile to the north, baby beach ½ mile to the south, toward Lihue. Other popular places to go are: Lydgate Beach Park (10 minutes), Limahuli National Tropical Garden (55 minutes), Kilauea Lighthouse (20 minutes), `Anini Beach (25 minutes), Poipu Beach Park (40 minutes), Kukui Grove Mall (22 Ohi`a Kai is one block mauka from pono kai resort, which is on the beach.

If you are not familiar with Kuhio Highway, it is helpful to know that it is not a busy thoroughfare, but a two-lane road with a 25 mph speed limit with lots of crosswalks where it passes through Kapa`a.

To reach `Ohi`a Kai from Lihue Airport, turn right at the traffic light as you’re leaving the airport. The road becomes Kuhio Highway at the next traffic light. Continue straight for about nine miles. Along the way you will cross the Wailua River, pass the Coconut Marketplace shopping and dining complex on your right, pass two adjacent shopping centers on your left, pass more restaurants on your left, and come to a traffic light in front of a small shopping complex with a Big Save grocery store, U.S. Post Office, and Shell gas station. A few blocks further and you will see a left-turn only lane in front of the Latter Day Saints Church. There is no traffic light here, but you will see the entrance to Pono Kai resort directly to your right and a sign welcoming you to downtown Kapa`a in the grassy area ahead. Turn left onto `Ohia Street. Note that this is a 90° turn. `Ohi`a Kai, clearly marked with green signs, is four houses down, at the end of this short street, just before the gate to a county property.

Park in front of the cottage or along the fence on the church side of ohia street. If we are not there when you arrive we will have a lock box on the front door. If you plan to arrive in the evening, contact us prior to your arrival so that we can give you the lock box combination.

We are one block from Pono Kai, an oceanfront resort. Across the road from our property is the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Bob and Mariane have lived on Kauai since 1997. Bob is a licensed clinical psychologist and his offices, Pacific Clinic, are on the first level of Ohia Kai Hale. Marianne teaches at Hawaii Pacific University on Oahu.

Cute, well-located cottage!

We were very comfortable at Ohi'a Kai Cottage. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed delicious fruit they gave us from their trees. Centrally located for seeing the sights on Kauai, but two days was not enough time! We'll be back!

I stayed here a month. The location is great; you can walk to all Kapa'a sites which include supermarkets, several restaurants, the beach and more. Despite not having a full kitchen I got along very well with the microwave, electric frying pan and convection hot plate. Plenty of cooking pots, etc. The full size fridge was great and the washer/dryer was a tremendous bonus. The queen bed is awesome! Although close to town, it was very quiet. Washing dishes in the outside sink was very easy and there is lots of light at night.

Marianne and Bob are wonderful hosts. Very responsive to requests. I got fresh fruit and flowers along with a wealth of information. Definitely a good place to stay at a reasonable price.

My friends and I spend 2 nights at the Ohi'a Kai Cottage. The property is in a wonderful, central location and very easy to find for those who are not familiar with the area. Everything that we needed was furnished for us in the home. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Highly recommended!

Cute Little Cottage Hideout

We absolutely loved the location of this cute little rental property. It is half way between the north and south side events. The sleeping accommodations we excellent and the bathroom was spacious. The only disappointment for us was the kitchen since we like to cook our breakfast and prepare our day lunch at the rental site. We missed not have a real stove and oven, but we made it work and the price was right. So if you aren't into cooking one site....this is a good choice. Very quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to downtown Kapaa. We have planned to return to Kapaa next winter!

Home away from Home

Lovely landlords who bent over backwards to get our wifi working. Sleeping was great, you could not hear any outdoor noise. Cozy, inexpensive, no stove, but lots of storage for everything they provide for you or your groceries. In the "kitchen" room a table and two chairs, buffet, cutting table and all of your utensils, bowls and more are provided for you and outdoors you have a good bar b q. We had a wonderful time because of the kindness of our landlords who made us feel like family. We would stay there again. Beds were very comfy, too. Thanks for the avocados and bananas, they were wonderful.

3 happy travelers.

This rental home made our time in Kauai relaxed. We had the nearby stores and restaurants within minutes away and the beaches were all so close that walking to them was like 3-5 minutes. The home itself had everything we could have asked for. Bikes, barbecue, dishes, towels and a home full of things for everyday use. Huge restroom with great shower. Ideally located for day trips as in any direction we were there in a hour. Overall we would recommend this home for use by anyone.
