About Elaine Leguey
I lived in the Caribbean during 8 years, on board a yacht, and sailed extensively through the region. When I discovered the Samana region I considered it to be amongst the most beautiful of areas I had visited - still retaining the charm of the Caribbean as it used to be, before the arrival of all inclusive resorts etc..
Elaine Leguey purchased this villa in 2009
Why Elaine Leguey chose Las Terrenas
I bought the plot of land at Playa Estillero as I was attracted to the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside..........and the complete tranquility of the location. I spent long periods with my architect during the planning and construction stages of Villa Céline - we were determined to create a property that was as comfortable as possible for guests (myself and family included) while being environmentally friendly. The 4 light and spacious bedrooms each have an ensuite bathroom - guests often tell me that they felt they were staying in their own private boutique hotel..........
What makes this villa unique
I love the fact that I can walk out of my garden gate and access the beach, which is just 150 metres away, via a private path from our gated community. Very often we are alone on the beach and walk for miles along the shoreline, around various headlands, totally undisturbed. All the time surrounded by spectacular scenery and taking an occasional dip in the warm sea along the way. So peaceful as this is a vehicle free zone - no road along the beach. I sometimes arrange for a horseback ride along the beach during the early morning hours - a great way to start the day! When I return to Villa Céline I usually have another dip, this time in the swimming pool, before relaxing on the poolside terrace with a cool, long drink and a good book - my idea of heaven! The tropical gardens surrounding the poolside terraces and the property are so lush.........I'm now able to taste bananas from trees that I planted myself - sometimes in the company of the beautiful humming birds that visit the exotic flowers alongside. If I cherish the idea of a completely 'chilled out' day I may pop next door to the beach club/spa that my neighbours created and have a wonderful massage on their roof top terrace, overlooking the sea and bay of Playa Estillero. Sometimes we also pop in if we feel like using their poolside bar or catering facilities if we choose not to drive to one of the numerous restaurants in Las Terrenas - so convenient.
Guestbook comments from the owner
I have just returned from a stay at Villa Céline at Playa Estillero and feel my batteries have been re-charged !! My wife and I shared the house with some close friends (there were six of us) and we all agreed that we had a great vacation.
The house was much more attractive than the photos on the website indicated - very spacious and light with good sized bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms which was very convenient. The weather was wonderful so we started our days with walks on the beach - which was always peaceful as there are no vehicles allowed. We had been told that we could walk long distances close to the shoreline and that was so true - I had never been in such a spectacular environment and felt very fortunate. The sea was very clear and warm so we explored with our masks and snorkels - there was much to see. We also found a small, secluded cove situated to the left of the main beach, at the end of a track through the coconut palms - magical !!
The housekeeper kept the house very clean and we also arranged for her to prepare some meals which were delicious.
The waterfall at El Limon village closeby is well worth a visit - I would advise a visit early or later in the day to enjoy the place at it's best. We also drove to Samana Bay which was about 20 minutes - would love to return another time during the whale watching season. Went in to Las Terrenas centre for a couple of meals - lots of restaurants to choose from and very good quality. We used the bar at the beach club/spa which is located just next door to Villa Céline and my wife had a very pleasant massage on the roof terrace there.
The owner, Elaine, was very helpful during the booking process and gave us lots of interesting information. I will be telling all my friends about this great find!
