Further Details Indoors:

La Petite Maison is one of the most picturesque homes in Beynac. Situated on a footpath leading to the Chateau, your medieval adventure awaits. Step inside into a quiet retreat and enjoy the charm of its thick stone walls and heavy chestnut timbers. Many of its furnishings date back to the 1700’s including the dining table and buffet, both made of walnut in the local Perigordian style.

No one will have to draw straws for the kid’s bedroom because this cottage has two full sized master suites each with its own private ensuite bathroom. A common living area with the sitting room and dining area separates the bedrooms above and below. The living room boasts a massive stone fireplace, antique copper, and leather furniture, which accentuates the comfort and enjoyment of staying in your own place.

La Petite Maison is perfect for couples and small families. With two master bedrooms, it sleeps 4 very comfortably but may also sleep 1 additional guest. There is a single bed suitable for a youth in the bedroom upstairs.

The village of Beynac consists of a cluster of golden-stone houses beneath a dramatic 500 foot cliff. Perched at the top stands the 12th century Chateau Beynac, rising from the sheer cliff face along the most historic and scenic section of the Dordogne River. With its formidable Chateau, rows of charming houses, and the gentle river below, the setting is simply captivating. La Petite Masion makes for an ideal home base for visiting all the picturesque villages in the Perigord Noir, including Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Castelnaud, Monpazier, and Sarlat, the most historically preserved medieval city in all of France.??

Beynac castle is renowned for being one of the best preserved medieval castles in France. It was painstakingly restored last century using only the tools of the medieval craftsman. From the castle terrace, the chateaux of Marqueyssac, Fayrac, and Castelnaud are all within view across the verdant tapestry of this beautiful valley.

Nowhere have we found a more tranquil, beautiful, and romantic setting than here in the Dordogne. Whether you are exploring fairy tale castles, strolling a local market, wandering through cobblestone streets, studying prehistoric cave art, or simply taking in the unspoiled countryside, you will come to understand why this is one of the most endearing regions in all of Europe. Designated by the French government as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Beynac never fails to impress.

Further Details Outdoors: Medieval stone house, fully renovated. La Petite Maison is pictured in a Beynac postcard as one of the beautiful homes on the path to the Chateau. Petite Maison is so photogenic, you'll find countless visitors stopping to take a photo of it on their way to or from the castle

Assistance on hand: English speaking agent on hand to answer any questions.

The Dordogne, or the Périgord as it is known by the French, is one of the most beautiful regions in France. The Périgord Noir, which derives its name from the black truffles found here and its walnuts, is to be found in the triangle of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, cut through by the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. The Périgord Noir is a stunning mixture of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys and medieval castles dating from the 100 years war. You cannot fail to be impressed by the number and variety of castles that there are to visit, as well as the multitude of prehistoric cave dwellings and underground sites. The Périgord Noir is also famous for its cuisine. You can expect some form of duck on every menu, either the famous duck or goose liver (foie gras) or “confit de canard” or the lighter “magret de canard”. You should try the truffles, whose farming grounds are kept a very close secret by the truffle hunters, and also the cèpes, a very tasty form of mushroom.

A fantastic stay in la Petite Maison

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 25 May 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
We had a wonderful time at la Petite Maison in Beynac-et-Cazenac. The medieval village of Beynac is charming and very well preserved. From there, we had the opportunity to visit easily Lascaux 2, the Château de Castelnaud, Sarlat and its market, Domme and Rocamadour. We also enjoyed cooking with our son and his girlfriend in the very well equipped kitchen. Everything was perfect and we plan to return as soon as possible.

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 23 March 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
We just completed a wonderful stay at this cottage in Beynac. The house was clean, well equiped and located in an idyllic setting at the foot of a beautiful medieval castle in Beynac. For someone who travels often throughout France I have to say that La Petit Maison tops it all. It is well located and close to main roads and in the heart of Perigord. If you don't want to travel far to eat in a gourmet restaurant with excellent service just walk 50 feet to one of the village restaurants or make a gourmet meal right at the house from wonderful ingredients bought at one of the local farm markets.

Heavenly rental in the shadow of Chateau Beynac

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 20 November 2012 Date of Stay: November 2012
My wife and I spent an idyllic week in this lovely stone cottage in the historic Perigord village of Beynac. Vincent, our landlord, goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable, starting with a detailed multi-page guide to the cottage, appliances and things to do in the area.

This cottage easily accommodates two couples (or parents in one bedroom and kids in another). Living room and kitchen on one floor with lovely bedroom and bath above and another equally appealing bedroom and bath below. Photos are accurate and the village is delightful and only a short drive to another favorite of ours...La Roque Gageac.

We are enthusiastic amateur cooks and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. We did eat out several nights at the excellent and lovely Petite Tounelle restaurant adjacent to the cottage. But we did eat in on occasion after wonderful outings to local village "farmers" markets (there is at least one every day within a short drive. Lovely local beef and lamb plus pristinely fresh seafood and produce...all heavenly!

Absolutely Charming!

Review Submitted: 12 November 2012 Date of Stay: October 2012
It is not often that you find a place that is so much better than advertised but La Petite Maison is certainly that. The cottage and the village have been a perfect respite after a busy week in Paris. It is hard to leave such a magical place. This was our first trip to France and so our first introduction to the castles, the medieval villages, the beautiful countryside and the friendly people of rural France. Thanks to Vincent, Sarissa and Martine for a wonderful experience. - Pat and Ann (Canada)

Wonderful trip to Perigord Noir

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 July 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
This was our second stay at la Petite Maison. We were not disappointed. The facilities at the house during the two year interval were improved from an already very high standard for holiday accommodation. The staff are on hand and helpful - a special thank you to Martine who is delightful, efficient and great fun. She showed us Vincent’s family’s other house just up the lane and it occurred to us that if we were part of a larger party it would be a good option to take the two at the same time. We were joined by another couple for half our stay and the large bedroom/shower facilities on different floors again worked perfectly for people looking for some privacy on holiday.

The owner, Vince, is a perfect host with an eye for detail and always helpful.

We can particularly recommend two restaurants, both reasonably priced for the quality they provide. Chez Julien at Paunat (half an hour away) is in a delightful setting in the close of an historic Abbey Church. There is just the one menu but there are about six choices of both Entrée and Plat, as well as some dangerous desserts. Closer by is La Belle Etoile in La Roque-Gageac , the next village to Beynac. The upper terrace overlooking the Dordogne is a delight, and there is food to match.

Perigord is a truly historic area of France of which you can only scratch the surface in two weeks. Highlights we took in were Lascaux II which reproduces almost perfectly the Cro-Magnon artists’ caves of c 14,000 BC which had to be closed some years back to avoid further deterioration, Font de Gaume, the real thing of painted caves of the same vintage 20 minutes from Beynac (get in queue by 08.30 to be sure of a visit, now restricted to 92 people a day), several historic castles and gardens, most memorable being perhaps, Marqueyssac, Losse and Eyrignac, canoeing on the gently flowing Dordogne, the street markets and small specialist shops dealing in local produce.

As Francophiles, we are fortunate to have visited France more than 50 times during our marriage, but the Beynac/Perigord experience is right up there in the medals. We were truly sad to leave.
