Thank you for your beautiful cabin! The view and seclusion are utterly stupendous, and the interior is gorgeous. (Loved the cotton sheets!) The outdoor shower is lovely with the nooks in stone for storing shower items. So quiet with a wonderful cross-breeze provided by screened windows and fan. No one should not be daunted by lack of AC. The ventilation is so much better than AC--everything is natural and fresh. A must-do.
My husband and I stayed at this property for a portion of our honeymoon in Aug. 2014. First, the positives: the view is gorgeous. There is no getting around that. On our last night, the skies were perfectly clear, and you could see straight to Vieques and mainland PR. Queen size bed was comfortable, decorated quite nicely. Now for the cons: BUGS. You are definitely in the trees, and with that comes bugs. I got several bites, despite bug spray when outside, and a few inside (the doors and windows do not make bug-proof seals). We also came home one night to a 3-inch spider on the ceiling above the bed. There is no A/C on the property, so it gets very hot during the day, and doesn't cool off too much at night. We knew this coming to the property, but were expecting a hilltop breeze since you are so high up. Unfortunately, there are about 30 stairs down to the cottage, so the breeze stays where you park your car as it is buffered by the trees surrounding the cottage, which leads to the construction of the cottage. There is a corrugated metal roof. Very good for baking the property. Also, the property manager is fluent in English, but does not understand it, as all requests that were made were ignored. We were told we could have an early check-in, and was one of the reasons we chose this location, but upon arrival, were denied this. The kitchenette was lacking in functionality, and when we emailed property manager about broken appliances, we received no response. An outdoor grill was advertised, but was not present. Without a grill, your only cooking option is a gas range inside. My husband and I were split on the outdoor shower - the view was awesome, but the ants and bees made it difficult to completely relax. Also, the toilet clogs easily, and there is no plunger on the property. Overall, not a terrible home base, but by no means the relaxing paradise we were expecting. Book this place with your eyes open folks, very hot, bugs galore, and an unresponsive and unreliable property manager. If an absolutely stellar view can outweigh those, this is the place for you.
View to die for. Loved the outdoor shower and the woodwork on the deck! Extremely private. Lynette was very nice and was always available, when needed. P.S. -- No gas grill or AC for this property.
When we first arrived, it was breathtaking to see how much the pictures didn't do the property justice. We checked in at Carlos Jeep, and were driven to the property after renting a golf cart. It was clean, beautiful, and homey.
We had no issues with management or lack of towels/cleaning/bugs, as mentioned below. This simply could be because of the time of year. Our experience was actually the opposite. The power had gone out at about 3 a.m., and we were concerned if it was just our cottage, or if something had blown. We texted Lynette, and she immediately responded and let us know the whole island was out. It was 3 a.m.! The quick response from her and also her concern if we needed anything made us feel taken care of.
The highlight of the trip was exploring the various beaches. Zoni was one of our favorites, and we kayaked to Luis Pena and enjoyed the serenity and amazing clear waters! My boyfriend also proposed on the beach, so it will remain a very special day for us.
Favorite Restaurant: Dinghy Dock
Least Favorite, Overpriced and Very Rude Staff: Club Seaborne. Stay away! No one was there, terrible service, not good food.
We cooked most of our meals, and found the best grocery store is actually the one cloest to the villa. We will be back, and can't wait!
Oh yeah, the outdoor shower is inredible--taking a shower after playing in the sea all day while watching the sunset is priceless. :)

First, the cottage is absolutely beautiful. Someone put a lot of effort into every detail of the cottage. The view is every bit as spectacular as you see in the photos.
Now, for the cons. We arrived a little early on our flight and was told check in wasn't until 3 pm exactly. So we had to kick around the island eating tacos (no gripes there), until it was approaching 4 pm. We were escorted up by an employee from Carlos Jeep Rental. There, we found the cleaning guy but we needed to go to the supermarket, so told him not to worry, we'd just leave and come back. Not a huge problem, but after being asked to respect the 3 pm check-in time, and then coming back well later than that, we were surprised that the turnover still was not completed. When we returned I found the coffee pot wasn't clean and there wasn't a trash can for the kitchen, is that normal?
As this was a bit of a working vacation for us, one of our reasons for booking this particular rental was the wifi. Nothing like a great view to encourage a little creativity, right? Unfortunately, the wifi was not working, and when I emailed the host (who I never actually met) to ask if someone could come fix it, I was told that I could walk up to the top of the hill to use the connection up there. Another minor annoyance.
Someone also mentioned the roosters, there are plenty and they crow at daybreak, so if this will bother you, bring earplugs.
Because of the handmade style of the cottage and the location in the trees, be aware that there are plenty of insects. I expected this because I've spent time in similar rentals in the rainforest of Costa Rica but didn't have nearly the issues I had in this rental. There are spiderwebs in every nook of the cottage; I was constantly swatting spiders off the bed, and by the end of our stay I even had to put my Tums in the fridge because the ants were invading. Once again, not a deal breaker, but just annoying. However, our biggest issue were the wasp/hornets that have a number of nests around the house, including by the shower. When we tried to have coffee or wine on the deck, we would get dived at by bees. Far from relaxing. A couple even managed to get inside (not sure how, as we were vigilant about keeping the screens shut) and up into the skylight which made being inside the cottage equally unnerving with the buzzing. I emailed about the bees and received no response. If you have an allergy to bees I would definitely not recommend staying here.
The view from the porch of the on-room cottage was magnificant, looking over the bay from our perch above Dewey. The cottage was comfortable and charming with unique artistic touches -- leaf patterns on the walls and cabinetry, bottles constructed in the outdoor shower just off cottage, the wood cutouts on the porch, etc. Furnishings were simple but adequate. There were enough cookware for the two of us but lacking if we had wanted to invite friends over. The cottage was high above the town, giving it a peaceful, removed ambience, but easy access to everything on this small island.
