Overview

Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in La Herradura - El Nido (The Nest)

A wonderful, beautifully appointed, corner house directly overlooking the sea

The exclusive comunidad of El Enclave is positioned on rocks just above the sea. It has its own private jetty where you can swim, fish and explore the nearby marine park. El Nido (the Nest) has a private terrace with 180 degree views of La Herradura bay giving it a real 'wow' factor. It is both private and romantic but close enough to the beach to make visits to the bars and restaurants an easy 10 minute walk. The house is furnished to a very high standard and is the home of the owner for half the year. This ensures that it has all you need for a comfortable and hassle free stay. The house is watched over by Inma, the concierge, who is on site to help with any problems. The nearby village of La Herradura manages to keep its Spanish character and still maintains a daily market. El Nido is special as the top mark reviews and the many repeat visitors and early bookings testify. It is popular for honeymoon and anniversary stays.

Out and About: La Herradura is only an hour away from Granada, a must for most people and there are several shorter trips that can be done to the Alpujarras mountains and other inland places for a look at the more typical Spain. All the well known tourist centres of Andalucia such as Ronda, Sevilla, Cordoba and Marbella are within a 3 hour drive making it a good centre for sightseeing. Granada Province and La Herradura itself are well known for its tapas and generally speaking offer good value for money compared to its neighbours to the west.

There is plenty of reading material and advice available to visitors in the house. For those less active the house and the comunidad are ideal just to chill out and relax either by the pool, on the jetty or on the terrace. The owner has been in the area for over 20 years and knows it well so is only too happy to help with advice.

Sporting Activities: La Herradura has a comprehensive water sports centre on the beach which gives tuition and hires out boats and surf boards. Underwater diving can be done from centres in Nerja and Marina del Este both within easy reach. Hand gliders can be seen regularly taking advantage of the cliffs above La Herradura bay.

Tennis courts can be hired opposite El Enclave and there is a well run riding school close by which provides beautiful horses and tuition for all levels of riding expertise. What better way to explore the courtryside and the beach!.

Golf is more relaxing, cheaper and accessible than on the western side of Malaga. Details of courses are given below.

For walkers the area has a superb variety of interesting walks from strolling on the beach to more serious forays into the Sierras where the views match any of its rivals from Peru to the Rockies. The Costa Tropical is also unusual in that you can enjoy sunbathing on the coast or sking in the mountians on the same day

Why Jill Parker chose La Herradura

I have always loved the area and jumped at the chance of a property on El Enclave, only 15 kilometres away because of its position overlooking the sea and the spanishness of the village and the comunidad itself. I am only the second owner of the house in over 30 years and both of us have loved it since we moved in. The architect made good use of the position and every house in el Enclave looks directly out onto the bay. Having said that, I believe that El Nido has one of the best positions of any of the houses.

My neighbours now are mostly spanish. Many of them live in Granada and have owned their houses since el Enclave was first built. In spite of my limited spanish they are very helpful and I am slowly getting to know them even though many of them only visit at weekends or use their houses in July and August.

I have never regretted the move especially as I look out into the sea from the terrace. It is easy to take it for granted and then someone comments on what a beautiful house it is and I realise that it is special. Sharing this with others gives me great pleasure.

Traditional Spanish Resort

  • 5 out of 5
Location, location is everything they say,and if you were to choose a
house to buy, then EL Nido is in the perfect position in the beautiful
bay of La Herradura. But the holiday experience at EL Nido is about
more than its superb position. Jill the charming owner provides a first
class service from the initial booking, supplying clear directions and
top class information on the area, to taking the trouble to make contact
after your holiday to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
Plenty of other reviewers have spoken about how clean and well
equiped the villa is, and I endorse those opinions.
I am a frequent visiter to La Herradura having stayed at six different
holiday homes all around the bay, and EL Nido is the first one I would
return to.
In my opinion La Herradura is the best resort along the coast from
Gibralta to Almeria. It still has a typical spanish flavour and is not over
developed. It has a daily food market for fresh fruit, fish, meat and
of course the the amazing jamon.
There is a good selection of restaurants, and many of the bars uphold that splendid Granada tradition of serving a generous portion of tapas with every (even soft) drink. A free lunch is not impossible!
Do not be surprised that if after your first visit you catch the La Herradura bug,and find you must return, as many people do.

Fabulous villa, fabulous position

  • 5 out of 5
El Nido was everything we were hoping it to be. The views from all the rooms are just stunning. The taste with which the villa had been furnished and decorated made it obvious that this is someones home and not just a holiday rental. It is ideally situated on the small gated development of En Enclave which has to be one of the nicest in the La Herradura area.
El Nido is a gem and the first thing I did upon arriving home was to book it again for next year!

The most beautiful villa we've ever rented!

The most beautiful villa we've ever rented!
  • 5 out of 5
This very charming, comfortable and beautiful villa with SUPBERB sea view terrace really is the most beautiful house we have ever stayed in!! Wat a gem! Waking up with the sounds and views of the sea, sitting at the more than beautiful en very spacious terrace and enjoying the tranquility and the turquoise blue of the sea - it really can't get any better!
Furthermore: Jill is super friendly and and helpful, the house is beautifully situated in a calm bay at the small place La Herradura. Even at the beginning of April we had sun from the early morning (around 8.30) until 7 o'clock PM on the beautiful terrace.
We've had some bad weather and chilly temperatures too, but the heating works perfectly and keeps you nice and warm!
Also in the kitchen and the bathroom everything is there and we couldn't really think about anything negative or whatsoever. Just really, really perfect and we hope that we can return one day to this beautiful house!
There are really a lot of books and guides and tips in the house, about what to do - there's something for everybody and for every interest - from sports to culture and from relaxing to shopping trips or city trips, that are all within half an hour or one hour drive! Even in the Sierra Nevada you can get within 40 minutes drive from here.
There are some (small) supermarkets in La Herradura, where you can even get fresh bread on a Sunday morning:- )
We're really greatful that we were able to stay at such a beautiful place - thanks Jill, and hope to return soon!

Two weeks of bliss

  • 5 out of 5
The owner of El Nido, deals in a special trade: putting Paradise up for rental. My girfriend and I had the privilege of a two week stay in El Nido in La Herradura (The Horseshoe, if I'm not mistaken) and cannot find fault with anything we found there. Not only this. What would you say if you got in front of El Nido in the dead of night and came across a deer and her cub? It's what happened to us on a quiet and warm September night. From that moment on, we knew everything would be too beautiful to be put into words. And, several minutes later, when we first got out on the huge terrace of the house and saw the Mediterranean sleeping under a lighthouse, we thought it wiser to keep quiet and drink in everything. Of course, if you want music, noise and entertainment, El Nido is not for you. If, on the contrary, you look for something peaceful and in the best of taste, this is it. Everything in and around El Nido is just perfect and La Herradura is a good starting place for exploring Andalusia and its treasures. There is a beach half a mile away, but if you want a real treat, just drive for eight miles and stop at the Calahonda beach in Nerja. The only thing that didn't quite appeal to us was Spanish food, but maybe there was something wrong with us, who knows? As for tourist suggestions, nearby Salobrena looks really nice, while Nerja seems to be the Brits' fave. And since you need a car to get to La Herradura, it would be a pity not to drive on and see Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. Roads in Andalusia are excellent, there are no motorway taxes and traffic runs smoothly. If you can afford a two week stay, don't hesitate, it's worth it. As for the house itself, not only is it wonderful, but it lacks nothing, from English books and tens of TV channels to coffee and corkscrews. And all its windows give you splendid views of the Mediterranean. Go for it, is our advice. Irina and Radu, Bucharest, Romania.

El Nido

  • 5 out of 5

La Herradura has been protected from aggressive development as the coastal motorway has only recently been extended there. It is still very spanish and much less developed than the western end of the coast. The beautiful bay and wide stretch of beach can easily absorb visitors and is not overrun with crowds, even at the height of the season. It has many good restaurants along the beach and a further selection is available in the neighbouring towns of Nerja and Almunecar. There are many interesting trips that can be made inland to the typical Alpujarran villages nearby and both Malaga and Granada have much to offer visiting tourists. Both are only an hour's ride away. It is a good base for the famous Andalucian centres such as Sevilla, Cordoba and Ronda. Bus connections are good and very reasonably priced. Sea and other sports are readily available and there are three good golf courses within half an hour of the house by car. It is a well known underwater sea centre.

Golf: There are 3 golf courses within a half hour's drive of the house and a further 3 near Granada. All have very different characteristics and are both enjoyable and challenging. Rates are very good value (around 40 E's per round) compared to the western end of the coast. There is a booklet in the house covering all the courses in Andalucia with directions and facilities of each course. Courses tend to be less busy in the summer but can be tiring in the heat of the day. Most courses offer a special rate for 2 with a buggy during the summer months. Numbers for bookings are given in the booklet.

Notes:
The house and complex have a spanish feel but the original german owners made sure that the rooms were carefully designed and spacious with the terrace for extra living. As well as the views it has a large sheltered eating and sitting area with a barbecue and plenty of space for sunbathing. It is completely private and a wonderful place to chill out. In the Summer guests spend most of their time there. Wifi and channel TV is available in the house. For those wanting to swim there is a choice of the private jetty where you can lie on the rocks and swim directly in the sea or you can use the communal pool which is pleasantly laid out with shades for sunbathing. All the houses are well looked after in keeping with the reputation of the complex for being one of the best locations in the area. Security is good with off street parking, a permanent concierge on site and regular visits by the gardener to keep and eye on the properties.
