Perfect Palms Palace
We have just returned from a very comfortable stay at this apartment. It was situated exactly where we had hoped to be, close to the park and easy walking distance to the centre of Funchal. The apartment itself was more spacious than we had thought it would be with a large lounge/diner, large bedroom and with both kitchen and utility room, the bathroom though was a little snug. For those who wish to self-cater the kitchen is fully equiped. The apartment is well kept and clean. When we booked our stay we didn't notice that the apartment did not have air conditioning, however, this was not a problem and there is a fan in the bedroom.
The apartment blocks themselves are secure, clean, obviously well managed and the gardens and pool areas all well kept.
Arrangements made with the owner were very professionally conducted and we were met at the gates of the apartments having previously given our flight arrival times. Everything that we needed to know was explained to us.
Eating/drinking in Funchal has something for everyone. One of our day time favourites is the cafe bar on the top floor of the Fruit/Veg/Fish market, this is worth a visit for coffee and cake, lunch and a glass of wine or a beer. Very comfortable seating and friendly staff. Set above the market, surrounded by pretty pot plants - you can relax above the hub bub of the activity below.
In the evening, Mozarts in the old town is definitely worth a visit, don't be put off by the character dressed as Mozart who stands outside. The food and service are first class and they offer an excellent set menu for 35 euros per head which includes wine and water.
On this visit we discovered the Restaurante dos Combatentes, which can be found at the Rua de Sao Francisco, just behind the park that is opposite the Theatre. There is always a line of taxi cabs along the edge of the park so you can't miss it. Good food and service, though if you like to wait a bit between courses you need to tell the waiter.
We would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and family and would return. Two very happy customers.
