Located opposite and within a 15 minute walk from the beautiful medieval hilltop village of Mougins, Mulberry Cottage is the perfect bolthole.
The cottage is situated in the grounds of one of 4 houses on a small private gated domaine. Entrance to the domaine is via a code and there is no through-traffic. Free and secure parking is provided on-street just outside the cottage.
The cottage itself is a simple, but charming, typically Provençal stonewall structure, with comfortable furnishings and art by the artist owner.
The cottage is spacious and light, although typically Provencal with small windows so as not to let in the summer heat. There is no air conditioning, but ventilation fans have been provided for use (the hottest period is generally August).
The cottage has a private, enclosed and gated garden, equipped with BBQ and outdoor furniture for al fresco meals. There are a couple of raised flower beds, planted with aromatic flowers like Lavender, Geranium, Rose, Lantana, Jasmin and Bouganvillea and some pot plants, but mostly the garden is paved. There is a washing line.
The pool is situated 50 m from the cottage and shared with the owners' family only. The 6 X 13 m swimming pool is 3 m deep at its deepest end and not suited for small children (under 10). Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent at all times. Pool beds and towels are provided at no extra cost. Renters have full access to the pool at all times.
Museums: For artists and art lovers the area abounds with interest. The owner of the cottage is an enthusiatic and experienced 'plein air' painter herself.

Peter and Lynn were born and raised in South Africa. They lived and worked in London from 1986-2001. They moved to Mougins and bought this house in Mougins in 2001. They have been renting out Mulbery Cottage, which is located on a private terrace below their house, since 2005.
Lynn Derriman purchased this cottage in 2001
They chose this property for its proximity to the international school in Mougins for their children. Also for the convenience of access to the A8 which gives access to Nice International airport within 20 minutes by car, which makes London an easy commute for business meetings for Peter.
They fell in love with this property for its simple, unpretentious charm and its view of Mougins Old Village. It's typically Provencal and feels down to earth - just like its owners.
Pictures do reflect the actual situation. Fully equipped kitchen. Bbq on the premises. Very friendly owners who are at your disposal when needed. Pool has a beautiful view. Grocery shopping within walking distance. Public transport nearby.Ideal location for trips to the seaside as well as inland, example Grasse.
We had a fantastically relaxing stay at Mulberry Cottage. We were 3 adults and a toddler and found the cottage to be perfectly laid out, well-equipped and stylish!
The best parts:
Fully equipped and spacious kitchen
Beautiful and huge pool great for swimming, lovely lounge chairs and shaded area (the pool is set apart from the cottage up steps so perfect for preventing small people accessing the pool on their own)
Outdoor terrace with barbecue and table and chairs (terrace is also enclosed so amazing for a toddler)
Really comfortable beds and bedrooms have huge fans if you're hot
Easy walk or shuttle to the old town of Mougins
Feeling of having your own private slice of the Côte d'Azur
Absolutely lovely owners who give you all the privacy in the world
Sitting room with comfortable sofa and chairs, tv and DVD player and a collection of DVDs for adults and children as well as a collection of books
Mougins is a great place to visit and we are counting down the days until we can return!
What a beautiful cottage!!! The whole experience seems like a dream now. There is absolutely no fault to be said about this gorgeous cottage! You don't need air conditioning as the cottage is stone so lovely and cool on the hottest of days, and if you're worried about a few ants, probably best not to go ever go away as there's a lot bigger more horrible insects around than ants!! We have had the most lovely time. This is the most natural beautiful place. So homely and comfy!! The owners Lyn and Peter are the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. So kind and the moment you meet them you know you can just relax as any problems and they will help. Nothing else to say except,... if you're after relaxing in a gorgeous part of the world, you need look no further.
Our first stay at the cottage was in 2009. We loved it so much that we returned.
This is a lovely, very clean and beautifully decorated space. It has a fantastic outdoor area where we spent many evenings. Guests at the cottage have access to a pool with a fantastic view. The owners are a lovely family.
We highly recommend the Mulberry cottage!!!!
Mulberry Cottage is perfectly situated on a hillside in Mougins overlooking Mougins village. Lynn collects us on arrival and after a short twenty minute drive we are 'home'. The cottage is separate to the main house and therefore private, the pool has its own entrance for guests but is shared. It is very spacious, clean and adequately equipped. There is also a lovely area in front of the cottage to sit and enjoy the sunshine and use of a barbeque.
I feel a car is essential in this area but there are also buses. It is very cheap and easy to catch in Mougins once you know what number you are looking for. My sister and I use the bus to go to Grasse and Nice for the day. In Nice there is a large train station next door to the bus terminal so it is possible to travel further a field. Grasse has the wonderful Fraganard Museum. We are regular visitors to Mulberry cottage and are beginning to be more familiar with the area. We love Theoule; it is in a nature reserve and tends to be quieter on the beach as opposed to Nice. It is warm enough to swim and my husband and brother in-law enjoy diving there with goggles and flippers . Two new things we did this trip was to drive to Gordon, a magnificent village perched on the edge of a mountain. The other was to drive to St Maxims on the coast, park the car and take a ferry to St Tropez. This was the highlight of the holiday for me. It was marvellous just dawdling along and looking how the rest of the world live, beautiful boats, shops and people. It also has a charming square with benches to have a rest and watch the world go by or you can play a game of boules. The Friday market in Valbonne is also a firm favourite and has everything, food and clothes galore in a quaint square surrounded by places to eat.
We tend to mainly cook at the cottage on our visits and Carrefour is an excellent local supermarket. There is a restaurant in Mougins and I can not remember what it is called. The locals go there and it is only open at lunchtime I think. There is a fixed two course menu available and the service is good and the food excellent. Lynn is a fountain of knowledge about the area and you only need to ask her if you want to find out or need anything.
Though we speak virtually no French, we manage and usually find there is some one available who speaks English. We adore our holidays in the lovely Mulberry cottage.
We booked the cottage for 3 weeks from the end of July to mid August 2011. Normally we stay in 5 star hotels (I know, we are up ourselves) but we decided that after 15 years of the Carlton in Cannes we would go rustic. Unfortunately we chose to drive through France on the weekend of the start of the French summer holidays so what should have been a pleasurable drive turned into groundhog day, traffic delays, and several changes of route. Lynn must have been seriously fed up with me constantly changing the arrival time and eventually it was midnight when we arrived. Lynn heard us arrive even at that time and came to meet and greet us, complete with a much needed and appreciated bottle of wine! Our first sight of the cottage, albeit in the dark, was looking good. In the morning with wall to wall sunshine, it looked fabulous. At that point we wanted to sell our family house in dismal Yorkshire and move to the cottage, sans famille. The cottage had everything we could need for the stay, ok the bbq needed a tweak, but thats now ok. You could cook a Desperate Dan size cow on it no problem! The cottage is very private and whilst we wouldn't recommend nude sunbathing, you certainly have absolute privacy within the cottage and in the courtyard itself. The pool is quite large and with a good sun bathing area, ideal for a sun bunnies like us, with clean sunbeds daily. The pool is shared with Lynn and Peter and their family but to be honest we hardly saw them and pretty much had the pool to ourselves. Lynn and Peter are fantastic people, we ate with them twice and they are so helpful. Our lunches were often held at the local bistro a ten minute walk away, 2 courses and wine 12 Euros. Food quality superb and this is from a gourmet foodie. Its a steep walk to Mougins, but well worth it . Mougins restaurants are excellent if expensive and you certainly want a beer after the steep climb. The view from the firsty balcony of the first bar in the village is incredible. I'd like to say we came back fitter than when we went, but if I did it wouldnt be true, we ate and drank too much. Its a short drive to Valbonne, a superb village and again with excellent restaurants, a jazz restaurant and quirky shops. After 3 weeks we didnt want to leave. We had a fantastic holiday, we loved Mulberry Cottage, Lynn and Peter are two of the nicest people I have ever met and given a choice of the Carlton or Mulberry, well the Carlton is great but give me Mulberry any day.
There are a number of excellent Golf clubs in close proximity. A tennis club with hard and clay courts (5 mins) Horse riding club (5 mins) Skiing areas are a 2 hour drive. Mougins is the home of world famous Moulin de Mougins Restaurant. If you love Jazz, you'll enjoy summer here, when there is an abundance of it on offer in Juan les Pins. Grasse, home of famous perfume factories Galimard, Molinard and Fragonard - all open to the public. Valbonne village and Mouans-Sartoux, neighbouring villages, both have a markets 2 X week. Ferry boats go to St Marguerite & St Honorat from Cannes daily, as well as to Monte Carlo, St Tropez and Italy in the summer. There's boating and fishing at lake St Casien (15 min) or up in the mountains at the wolf conservation area called Parc Alpha (90 mins) Antibes has a sailing club and Marineland, with its dolphins, sharks and killer whales is a great day out for the whole family. The Italian food and clothing market in Ventimiglia is a 60 minute drive.
