Umbrian Retreat

We rented the Palazzo for 4 weeks last summer, staying 2 weeks with 2 other families and 2 weeks with other members of our family. It was idyllic - a once-in-a-lifetime experience. While it is a bit of a drive from anywhere, the beauty of the setting and the spaciousness of the house are ample trade-offs. Even during the hottest days of August, it cooled off beautifully at night and the pool provided recreation and relaxation.
Be aware that it is remotely located. Once we found the "secret back road" to Spoleto, that cut our drive there to about 20 minutes, where there are good-size grocery stores and other urban amenities. However, to get almost anywhere in Umbria took only an hour or two and we were able to take in so many of the delights of this less-known region. But you are also in the mountainous heart of Umbria, with its farms and forests. We even saw an entire family of wild boar cross the road right in front of us one night when returning from a sagra (local food festival - not to be missed!).
The village is charming and provided a great setting to explore and settle in. The local restaurant is excellent and was very accomodating in providing two spectacular dinners for our groups. There is another restaurant just 5 minutes away that made some of the best pizza you could ever want, with an incredible variety of toppings, including truffles!
Spoleto is a great place to explore and very walkable (although a little hilly). Other locations worth visiting: Norcia and the Piano Grande, Montefalco, Orvieto, and Deruta. Assisi is also easy to get to.
We will certainly be returning to Umbria and the Palazzo helped to make the trip there even more magical.
