Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Chatillon-sur-Seine - Maison Valois

3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 6

Maison Valois is a charming stone-built village house that has architectural characteristics typical of this area. Located in a private gated courtyard on a quiet village street, the house has three bedrooms, a large living area with fireplace, a dining area that looks across the fields and vineyards, and a large garden where you can enjoy the spectacular views. The house is enhanced by antique furniture that is from the region. The kitchen is large, airy and stocked with all the equipment you need to create your meals made with ingredients that you purchased at the market or at one of the many excellent grocery stores in the local area. There is a good, casual restaurant a few steps from the house, where grilled meats, pizzas and salads are the specialty - a must try! Recent renovations and updated decor will make your stay memorable while you relax in this authentic Burgundy country house.

About Juliet Tapia

We both grew up in Europe -- Daniel in Holland and Juliet in England -- and we now live in Austin, Texas. Travelling in Europe has been a priority for our vacations, and a few years ago, we decided that we really enjoyed the Burgundy region of France for the authentic rural lifestyle, friendly people, beautiful countryside and fascinating places to visit. So we decided to buy a house in Burgundy!

Juliet Tapia purchased this house in 2011

Why Juliet Tapia chose Chatillon-sur-Seine

When we made our decision to purchase a house in France, Maison Valois was the first house that we viewed, and we immediately decided it was perfect for us and anyone who shared our appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of the French countryside. The house is very comfortable and has a warm atmosphere that tells us that many generations have lived there happily. The village is friendly, safe and quiet, and is located within an easy 10 minute drive of a charming market town that provides guests with all the necessary amenities. We have enjoyed furnishing the house with a combination of authentic French antiques and contemporary comforts. We hope you enjoy your experience in Maison Valois!

Valentine's Day Weekend in Burgundy

  • 5 of 5

We spent our 4 day weekend (Feb-2015) at Maison Valois in the small village of Belan sur Ource in France. The village was very peaceful and our hike through the farm fields and vinyards was perfect. One of our outings was a day trip to Alesia (1 hour drive) where we visited the statue of Vercingetorix and the remains of the Gallo-Roman town that was built there after the Romans took over the area from the Gauls.

Vercingetorix, translated as “Supreme ruler of warriors” was the leader of the Gauls in the city of Alesia. As we drove through the small village we happened upon a Poterie shop and made a small purchase. The pottery is made on site at the shop by the owner of the store. We were actually able to speak a little French with him. Overall Maison Valois was perfect, the amenties as advertised and we particularly enjoyed the BBQ. We look forward to a return trip when we can stay a little longer

A beautifully appointed villa

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully appointed villa in a quiet rural French village. It is as good as it looks in the photographs. However the village is very quiet and no longer has a boulangerie or any shops. There is a restaurant but it wasn't often open. We had a car and a GPS and there is plenty to see in the surrounding area. The nearest shops are but 10 mins by car away. We had a great stay and all arrangements were easily made.

Charming home, quaint town, breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

As you drive into the quaint village of Belan-sur-Ource, the amazing views of surrounding grain fields and vineyards sets the stage for this charming home. In immaculate condition with impressive furnishings and space, the stay was so enjoyable. Just relaxing with a book, a drink, or meals out on the back patio, taking in all the sights and sounds of the French countryside, were tranquil and memorable.

Yet, if activity is what one preferred, the garden was spacious and inviting for children's play or organized sports. Via walking, hiking, bike (provided) or vehicle, exploring the area was exciting and educational with abundant photo opportunities.

The nearby towns, Chatillon-sur-Seine being one of our favorites, offer an assortment of dining and historic sightseeing and let's not forget all the vineyards. What a great way to experience a piece of Burgundy! Many, many thanks to the gracious owners, who were so accommodating for our travel and vacation plans.

Nice property

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at this property for our honeymoon. The property was just as described, and I cannot say enough for the property owner, and her willingness to ensure our satisfaction. This is a great property, and the owner is excellent to work with.

In lovely unspoilt french countryside f

  • 4 of 5

We found that "Maison Valois" was ideally situated for exploring the north of Burgundy.

The best was the unspoilt feeling of the french countryside and rural way of life.

The house itself is extremely comfortable with all the modern comodities one needs, good heating for the fresher evenings and ample space.

In good weather its just nice to sit outside and enjoy the views with a good breakfast in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.

Only one inconvenient is that the time just flies by and good things end too quickly

Authentic Village Life

  • 5 of 5

For the traveler seeking a genuine experience of "life in a small rural village in France" this is your place! It is comfortable and well equipped and located in an area surrounded by lovely villages, towns, farms and forests. Your neighbors are families of vintners, dairy farmers, foresters and craftsmen. The pace of life is slow and quiet. The owners are sincere and thoughtful in ways beyond imagination. And the property manager, Eric, lives just a few minutes away and is full of helpful information.

It is amazing how one can stumble upon the unexpected while traveling. Just a few kilometers from your base in Belan-sur-Ource, is the village of Essoyes, where P.A. Renoir spent most of his working life. Many of the neighboring villages are too small to support a bakery or market. Still, we were always able to find a restaurant with great food shared with the locals for lunch. A great restaurant is located in the Hotel du Parc in the town of Arc-en-Barrois, a beautiful little town worth a visit.

The nearest large town is Chatillon-sur-Seine where you will find everything you need to supply your visit, from butchers to bakeries, pharmacies to markets. Chatillon is an easy ten minute drive from Belan. Here can be found also, an interesting museum, church, restaurants and a very helpful tourist information center.

Now, I must ask a favor from anyone who visits this enchanted place. When you go to the market, stock up on carrots. There is a little Shetland Pony living next door who answers to the name of "Scotty". Actually, he answers to anything but, he (and I) prefer "Scotty". I promised him I would send carrots every chance I got. So, please don't let us down!

The house is located in an authentic and characterful village on the Route de Cremant in the Cote d'Or region of Burgundy. Strolling around the village, you will see a church that is on the list of Historical Monuments of France, a chateau, an ancient 'lavoir' (wash house), a tree-lined river, vineyards and a winery that produces and sells Cremant, the sparkling white wine of Burgundy. The house is equipped with 5 bicycles, so feel free to cycle into the gently rolling countryside outside the village.

At a short 10 minute drive is the charming market town of Chatillon sur Seine, where you will find all the amenities that you need, including a bustling weekly market, large grocery stores, restaurants, a cinema and lots of little shops and businesses. Chatillon was a residence of the early dukes of Burgundy and has a beautiful 10th century church, interesting walks and historical streets and houses.

Many fascinating and beautiful sites are within an easy drive of the house, including the medieval towns of Dijon and Semur en Auxois, the ancient pilgrim destination of Vezelay, the 12th century Fontenay Abbey, and numerous chateaux and picturesque villages. And, of course, you are very well located for exploring the vineyards of the area, since you can tour the wine roads of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune to the south and the area of Champagne a few miles to the north of the house.

The area has many natural attractions, such as the Parc du Morvan, where you can hike, bike or picnic. Of course, you may wish to spend your days relaxing at the house, cooking a fine dinner and watching the star-studded night sky. There is so much to do and see in this wonderful area of France!
