Absolutely Beautiful Home -- a Real Stunner!
I will mirror all the other reviews and say that this home was absolutely beautiful and MUCH lovelier than the photos describe. The house is impeccably clean and spacious and lovingly appointed with warmth and charm. Jean Louis is a sweetheart and is very eager to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
Some practical tips– there is not a great variety of restaurants and what there is – is VERY expensive ($80 lunch at the Barracuda Grill for two fish sandwiches and two local bears a piece – ouch!). We brought a ton of frozen meat and luncheon food in a portable cooler and were really glad we did – saved us a fortune. The kitchen is very well appointed with pots, pans, plates, etc but there is nothing by way of spices, oil, sugar, etc so – if you plan to cook at the house, bring everything you will need food-wise. You can purchase stuff at the local grocers but variety is very limited and, again, very costly.
Three Mary Kay has some of the best snorkeling I have ever seen. I went around 3pm when there was little wind and I had to have seen at least 30 different varieties of fish in my first five minutes. Unfortunately, I encountered a five-foot sand shark which spooked the “you-know-what” out of me but Jean Louis promised me that these sharks are totally harmless!
The only reason I gave Datai 4 stars instead of 5 is because the island itself was a little disappointing. The beaches are stunningly beautiful but there is little else to do here. The rest of North Caicos is pretty uninspiring. People have said that this is a place to come to “unplug” and, yup, that’s true ….. very true. If you really want nothing more than to lie on the beach with several good books, take advantage of a rather impressive movie collection in the evenings (thanks to Jean Louis) and enjoy sun and solitude, than this is your dream house. The house is absolutely lovely and you will not be disappointed.
Owner's Response: Thanks Judy for all of these compliments on our Datai.
I'm a bit disappointed the 4 stars you gave to your stay just because North Caicos is still an undeveloped island... Usually this is what our guests are looking for. We have never promoted our island as a "Little Miami" . Anyway... the most important to us is that you enjoyed our villa.
By the way... As offered when checking in, I could have cooked for you ... at a much better price than where you went for lunch! Maybe next time.
All the very best to every of your friends who joined you at Datai. J-L & Martine
