Turn your eyes and see the spectacular sea promenade of the Lido and the glorious Club Naval (Nautical Club) and its pools. The whole city of Funchal is there for you, from the mountains to the port of cruisers.

Balcão do Mar is majestically located in a prime residential area of Funchal the Estrada Monumental. In the heart of the tourist area, few minutes walking from the newly opened Forum Centre and its boutiques, it is comfortably served by public transport , only ten minutes from the historical city centre.

An Amazing Apartment

An amazing apartment in a very good location. The highlight has to be the wonderful view. Ate most of our meals on the balcony, although there were lots of restaurants near by. It was great to be met by the owner at the airport at no extra cost and our bed linen was changed half way through. We also made good use of the swimmimg pool which was extremely well maintained. Lots to do especially if you like walking. This is a great apartment for any couple.
Owner's Response: The comments of our guests are the motivation to do better and give us the feeling that we are on the right path to keep a high standard with our personal touch! Madeira is so beautifull that we love to share it with you !!

Super views and great location!

Our stay (Oct 2010) started with being met at the airport by the owner - who couldn't have been more friendly and helpful!
The apartment is fine and cosy for 2 people, with excellent views across the bay and of the promenade below. We looked forward to returning each day to just sit on the balcony and watch the world below. Simple cooking is possible using the microwave and 2 ring cooker, though space is limited. A large shopping centre is within a few minutes walk and has everything you could need for cooking. The low prices surprised us.
Just below the apartment is a lido with seawater pool and also a sea pool - makes for a refreshing dip after a walk back from Funchal.
To reach Funchal you can take the frequent bus that stops on the road above the apartment (short hill). We found this a great service and good value at 1 Euro.
Walking to Funchal is easy (about 40 min and mainly flat!) - take the pedestrian only promenade to start and then on to the main road into Funchal. We became tired of the busy main road and took the bus instead.
Can't especially recommend local restaurants - there are a few on the promenade but we found better quality and value in Funchal itself.
In summary, a good small apartment for 2 people, with super views from the balcony!. Well placed for excellent transport links into Funchal (also some buses for other locations that make a worthwhile trip e.g. Monte). The airport bus stops at the apartment, so you can economise on transport. Very good for walking along the prom and making use of the lidos for swimming. No real need for a hire car.

Balcao do Mar Apartment

The view is absolutely wonderful from this apartment, you can sit on the balcony, relax and watch the world go by. You can see the cruise liners going in and out of Funchal, see the Santa Maria go past each day and watch all sorts of other things, we just loved it. It is also very peaceful.

This apartment is handy for buses, taxis, shops, restaurants, tours coaches, swimming in the lidos and you really do not need to hire a car as everything is in walking distance. One word of warning, if you are not very nimble, the road is very steep to and from the apartment.

The apartment is fairly small, but has everything you need for a holiday, it was nice and clean and had plenty of nice clean towels and hot water.

The owners were very helpful when we were met at the airport.

I would definitely recommend this apartment to a friend.
