Lovely Farmhouse near Coast

This is a lovely tradiational house for a family holiday in Cantabria, and we really enjoyed our stay. The house has been lovingly restored by the owner Robert (a carpenter), and the original rough stone walls and wooden beams give all the rooms a lovely rustic feel. But it has all mod cons too, and is spotlessly clean. The kitchen has lovely views to the coastal hills, and we really enjoyed sitting out on the veranda in the late evening. Because the house is on an elevated site, even on the hottest days the air is cool and fresh at night, with hardly a mozzie in sight. Our 3 kids loved the house, especially the large middle bedroom, complete with bunks. The master bedroom is lovely too, with a double height ceiling and the original roof beams exposed, plus a small balcony with french doors. The house is in a terraced hamlet of about 6 others, and in July when we visited 2 of these were occupied, though often it was so quiet you would hardly know. The garden is small enough, but with fields all around and a quiet drive, there was plenty of space for the kids to roam.
It was only a 20 minute drive to a dozen different beaches (Calizano the best of them we visited, but built-up Noja was pleasant too) and an easy hop to Santander. Going inland there were many other easy destinations: in the mountains or over to the spa village of Lierganes. The supermarcado, panaderia and petrol station are 15 mins away in Hoznayo. The outdoor swimming pool 10 minutes away in Entrambasaguas. And don't let the (English language) guidebooks deceive you, central Santander is well worth a visit, with plenty of cafe's and markets and a few stunning beaches.
The local people along the quiet entrance road all know Robert and Marisol and are very friendly. We had never visited before, and Robert and Marisol were especially helpful in getting us settled. They met us on the highway exit for Entrambasaguas from the airport and gave us a tour of the locality. They were always available for any queries etc., and were very warm and welcoming. In short we had a great stay and would recommend it if you want a relaxing traditional house set back from the coast. Nothing but but fond memories of our stay
