Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday villa in Anghiari - La Scheggia Holiday

Two different properties to better suit your needs.

Our properties are inserted in the historical farm 'Fattoria La Scheggia', a small rural hamlet dating back to the 15th century and located in Arezzo province - Tuscany, Italy.

Only 11km from Anghiari, one of the most beautiful Italian hamlets, we're glad to offer you our two properties: Villa and Tinaia.

In the restructured places, the modern comfort doesn't displace the rural old style ambiences. Here is the best place for those who aim for relaxation, History, culture and nature.

The farmhouse is located in the hills that divide Tuscany and Umbria and is surrounded by a natural park with different kinds of coniferous trees, pines, roses, lavenders and much more. It's a beautiful landscape that you can enjoy all day long, but you should also visit:

Anghiari (11km far):

It's an enchanting medieval hamlet overlooking the Tiber and Sovara valleys. It consists of an ancient settlement surrounded by a ring of impressive thirteenth-century walls and of a more recent area from the eighteenth-century.

Sansepolcro (18km far):

It's a typical Renaissance town that stands beyond the Tiber, in a wide amphitheatre at the foot of Alpe della Luna. The Town Museum hosts one of the major masterpieces by Piero della Francesca: the Polyptych of the Misericordia with the Crucifixion, St. Julian, and the famous Resurrection.

Monterchi (19km far):

It's a lovely village on the road that connects Sansepolcro to Arezzo. It is a 'must-see' for those who do not want to miss the Madonna del Parto, one of the most important masterpieces by Piero della Francesca: a fresco of extraordinary intensity representing the pregnant Mary.

Arezzo:

It lies on a hill close to the Appennino Tosco-Romagnolo. As its architecture proves, Arezzo boasts its ancient origin first as one of the greatest Etruscan towns and then a strategic Roman city. The upper part keeps a remarkable medieval aspect with the Cathedral and the Medici Fortress. The rather Gothic Cathedral contains fine works of art among which Saint Mary Magdalene by Piero della Francesca and the stained-glass windows by Guillame de Marcillat. The central Piazza Grande shows different styles of architecture: next to the medieval towers are the imposing Renaissance Loggiato Vasariano, the Palazzo delle Fraternita dei Laici, a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and the apse of the Pieve di Santa Maria. It hosts annually the Giostra del Saracino , a tournament held on the third Sunday of June and the first Sunday of September, and the Antique Fair on the first weekend of every month. The Bacci Chapel in the Basilica di San Francesco houses the stunning Renaissance cycle of frescoes of the legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesca. The single-nave church of San Dominic houses the newly restored Crucifix by Cimabue. Many other churches and palaces prove how important and original in the centuries Arezzo was. Notable are the Badia delle Sante Flora e Lucilla, the church of La Santissima Annunziata, Palazzo Pretorio and Palazzo dei Priori, and at a few minutes outside the walls, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Romanesque Pieve di Sant'Eugenia al Bagnoro. The museums offer a large variety of remarkable works of art: the Archaeological Museum Gaio Cilnio Mecenate, the Medieval and Modern Art Museum, the Casa Vasari Museum, the Casa Ivan Bruschi Museum and the Diocesan Museum.

Florence:

Small and immense and at the same time, it's an open air museum grown more beautiful over the centuries; a treasure chest enclosed by ancient walls that safeguard grandiose masterworks of art and architecture so close that you can almost touch them. From its magnificent position, the city sits at the feet of the Appennine Mountains in a valley that opens onto the Arno Plain. Its buildings and monuments tell stories of art, war and life. Its streets, today crowded with tourists, are the same ones through which Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante and many other of the most illustrious minds of all time, threaded their way. Florence's museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The most popular and important sites in Florence include the Dom Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia. The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural genius. Wander some of the oldest streets in the city until you reach the Arno River, cross the Ponte Vecchio, and experience the 'newest' area of Florence, the Oltrarno. Be sure to set aside time to see the vast and varied art collection housed in the Pitti Palace. When you grow weary of museums and monuments, head outdoors. Spend a day at the Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte to experience an enchanting view of Florence.

Valdichiana Outlet Village:

A shopping environment created to reflect the ambience of a real Tuscan village with squares, roads, open galleries, terraces and bridges. A centre with covered arcades that lead to the main square, Piazza Maggiore, where people meet to chat, have a coffee, greet their friends and go shopping. The categories of products present satisfy even the most demanding customers; men's, women's and children's clothing, sports accessories, footwear, leather items, household items, perfumes, cosmetics, watches, rugs, household appliances, products for fixed-line and mobile phones, household linen, furnishing accessories, optical products, sunglasses and gift items.

Much more: ... discover castles, natural parks, museums, churches, Antiquity Arezzo Fair, horse riding, bike riding, trekking and many other activities that we can suggest and plan together.

holiday in the tuscan hills

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wonderful holiday in this villa which was very well appointed, luxury bathrooms (4 in all!) and plenty of space for 2 families to relax in. We had teenagers who enjoyed the DVD!. There were good restaurants within 20 minutes of the villa but equally good to eat outside the villa watching the fabulous sun sets over the mountains after a swim in the pool. Being high up it was cooler at nights despite hot weather during the day so better for sleeping - and no mosquitos!
Pretty hill town of Anghiana nearby with internet cafe, shops and restaurants. You could travel to Florence but we found the roads rather nerve racking and tended to spend time locally, getting to know rennaisance fresco artist Piero dela Fransesco's work in the local area.

La Scheggia Villa

  • 5 out of 5
We return each year to La Scheggia having fallen in love with the house and with eastern Tuscany some time ago - our children have had some of the happiest holdays of their summers there.

The villa is spacious and very characterful, full of interesting and unusual artworks, and we particularly enjoy eating the delicious local food in the warm Tuscan sunshine, children and adults all gathered around the table after a morning by the pool or a day in nearby Arezzo or Anghiari.

It is slightly off the beaten track, so not so many tourists around, and yet there is a host of marvellous things to see and do within an hour's drive from the house, particularly for artlovers.

Our hosts make us feel very welcome, and help in any way they can to make our stay a happy one..we are looking forward already to next year!
