|Minimum Stay||1 - 2 nights|
This charming upper-level apartment, located at an altitude of 800 feet on Mt. Constitution, has amazing views as well as the intimacy of being surrounded by forest. Situated on a beautiful, secluded property, this is an ideal vacation spot.
You will be minutes away from swimming, boating, fishing, hiking trails, great restaurants and much more. On a clear night, you can see thousands of stars in the sky.
The unit has lots of light, a full kitchen, skylights, hardwood floors and a large porch for outdoor dinners or sunset watching.
Deer often wander into the property as well, and you can feed them apples.
My family has been renting vacation places on Orcas Island for nearly 26 years (my husband and I honeymooned there) and deemed this apartment and these hosts our favorite. Our 16-year-old daughter and 21-year-old son agreed. The view is a 360-degree breath of fresh air -- forest on three sides and a phenomenal water view from the deck. The owners, Naomi and Harvey, are informative, helpful and gracious hosts who clearly want guests to share their love of this piece of paradise. In fact, Naomi introduced us to a great swimming hole we had never discovered. We had the special blessing of staying there when the grown sons -- piano and violin virtuosos -- were home. Phenomenal music drifted across the lawn as we sat on the deck, watching the sinking sun paint the horizon brilliant hues of pink and orange. Heavenly. We shall return.
We had an amazing weekend on this property! You are surrounded by forest and deer and the most amazing views of water and mountains. Just so you know what to expect - let me be clear - the apartment is not fancy but well functioning and comfortable (no tv, no dishwasher) and you literally are surrounded by the view in all directions, the deck is beautiful but if you have young kids you definitely need to watch them around the railings. That said there is a great yard with picnic tables, basketball hoop, zipline, and deer wandering through - so that my kids had the time of their lives. It is also important to note that the owner shares the property - this has pros - as we found them to be super helpful and interesting to talk to (especially Naomi as Harvey was away) - when we didn't want to deal with the car - Naomi suggested a walk that we would have never figured out on our own. But this also means that you are not completely alone and if you want your kids to be out playing in the yard early in the morning - you may want to check this with the hosts. This rental was definitely the best part of our vacation - you are a 5 minute drive from beautiful Moran park and I would argue that the views at this "home away from home" compete with those from the Moran park lookout.
My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is high up a hill and has a amazing view. We stayed in the smaller of the two units. It was compact and ideal for a couple like us. The place was clean except for some ant & spider visitors which cannot be avoided when you are living so close to the nature. Bedroom was very comfortable with windows on the side facing the woods. A wired internet connection was provided which had pretty good speed considering the location. Owners Harvey & Naomi were quite friendly and inviting. If you like wildlife, you will enjoy the deer that pay you a visit sometimes.
No radio or tv.
Agree about the rude wife, we felt like irritants to her upon arrival.
Awkward with owners house 20 feet away.
Ants living in the coffee pot (didn't find this out until we made and poured and drank some of it, then noticed them floating!)
Broken couch (although comfy)
Not much of a view from the units deck.
No lock on the unit to protect belongings while away.
Location at 800 feet, we could hike from the unit to get up higher.
Right next to Moran State Park.
Harvey (owner) is an informative man. Friendly, intelligent and intriguing.
Teenage son is a musical genius,we would often return back, to him playing cello or piano which was amazing given the setting.
Deer roaming around the yard.
Soap and shampoo provided were excellent and organic.
Everything was clean.
Towels and sheets/bedding were freshly washed.
Amazingly comfy bed. (I'm picky!)
All in all we had a good stay. Would we stay again? Maybe. If the furniture was updated, the ants and spider webs were gone, the wife was more inviting, welcoming and accepting of people. Oh and a radio :)
Great place to stay! Went here for our honeymoon. The view is incredible! Spent a lot of time on the deck starring at all the beauty. About 10min drive from the cute town of Eastsound. And a couple minutes from Moran State Park. Highly recommend it!
The upstairs unit is very comfortable with a lovely view from the deck. The hostess was charming and quite helpful with travel details. The location is quiet and woodsy. All in all a peaceful place to stay. contemplate and/or meditate.
First I must say that Orcas Island has no traffic signals.
Second would be that we are the 'Martha's Vineyard' of the Pacific Northwest.
Moran State Park is minutes away, with lake, lagoon, trails, waterfall, boating, etc.
Eastsound is a compact village eight minutes away, with great restaurants,
There are waterfront parks, an Historical museum, a terrific library and a great variety of gift shops and much excellent local art and sculpture.
Kayaking is available nearby as well.
