Kalix Hus is our little bit of paradise on the east coast of the beautiful island of Ljusterö. Overlooking the Baltic Sea and only one hour's drive from central Stockholm.
We feel there is a perfect balance here. There is that wonderful feeling that you have escaped all the stresses of the world and have arrived in the middle of the Stockholm Archipelago - but modern conveniences are close by! There is an excellent grocery store 7 minutes away by car - between Kalix Hus and the ferry - which stocks anything you might be needing. There is also a post office, hair salon and gift shop at Ljusterö Square. The town of Åkersberga is only half an hour's drive away for more extensive shopping activities.
If you can bring yourself to leave the area around the house, there is our 'secret' beach (don't tell anyone) just 5 minutes cycle down the lane, or a lovely 15 minutes walk. Berries and mushrooms can be found in the forest behind the house. A nature reserve on the adjoining island of Lagnö is a delight for a change of scenery and a picnic on the rocks. There is a golf course about 5 minutes drive away and a marina where you can rent boats. Of course all the delights of Stockholm are only an hour away.
If you would like to take a more leisurely, scenic trip into Stockholm, you can take the Waxholmsbolaget boat from Linanäs pier on the western side of the island to Strömkajen in Stockholm. SL bus number 626 also goes to Ljusterö from Danderyd, on the Stockholm metro line.
