About Anna Atkinson
We left the Lune Valley in the UK in 2005 to look for new challenges. Robert was running his own building company and Anna was working at Lancaster University, so if was a huge gamble to just go and see what was out there, preferably somewhere a little sunnier!
As well opening Las Razes to guests from all over the world during the summer months; both of us keep busy. Robert carries out renovations (and re-roofs) many large stone houses in the region. Anna edits and writes for two English speaking magazines which cover a large area of S W France.
We have a total of 5 children and one grandchild still living in the UK. We don't go back too often as we find it all a bit too noisy, crowded and quick. We look forward, instead, to our family coming out to our 'patch of France'.
Living with us at Las Razes we have our two cats, Tilly and Saffron who enjoy a wonderful life of lounging and hunting.
Anna Atkinson purchased this farmhouse in 2006
Why Anna Atkinson chose Touffailles
Earlier explorations in France had convinced us that this region was for us, it has a beauty and charm that outstrips most of the better known 'holiday areas' we had visited. We had worked out that we wanted to be somewhere close to the triangle that is created by the villages of Montcuq, Lauzerte and Montaigu de Quercy as this offered the rolling hills, woods and valleys that made us feel particularly at home.
What makes this farmhouse unique
When we first saw Las Razes it was in need of a great deal of care and attention, but we could immediately see the potential in what had orginally been an old farmsted.
Set in about 6 acres Las Razes also housed an tumbled down ruin which had been the very first farmhouse on the site and was in a state of complete ruin, it had such a lovely position that we just knew that this was one building that we had to rescue and make into our home of the future.
The views were wonderfully relaxing and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere and this is something that we were not the only ones to notice, many of our visitors have commented that there is a tranquility here that cannot simply be explained by its rural and peaceful location.
Las Razes will be a virtual lifetime's project and fascination!
Guestbook comments from the owner
Brilliant place, view, well equipped ( thanks for extra saucepans) lovely gardens and pool. Pool was too deep for littler children but they loved the lakes and river close by and these provided a good excursion out. Also older children loved adventure park. Pool was great for adults and older kids.
We also enjoyed trips out - lots to do!
