PEACEFUL RETREAT SURROUNDED BY WOODLAND, FLOWERS, WILDLIFE AND VIEWS

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Touffailles - Las Razes

Comfy en-suite bedrooms all opening onto terrace & overlooking the pool

Huge, stunning indoor space - full of character and original charm. All our bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms. We have a mixture of double, twin and family rooms. Each bedroom opens directly out onto the terrace or large balcony overlooking the pool. Plenty of activities to keep the family occupied on site.

Free Wifi access

The large lounge/dining room provides lots of comfortable space for relaxing, watching TV (from the UK). One terrace has a large chess-set set out in the shade. There is an English library and a selection of board-games. We also have a DVD player with a selection of films, a CD player and a dart board and even a snooker table. The lounge has WIFI access - which is free for our guests.

There is plenty of space in the dining room for your party to eat indoors, or alternatively there are plenty of tables and chairs on the terraces, for outdoor eating. A BBQ is also provided for your use. Most of our terraces are shaded from the sunshine by UV filtering sail-shades, making the outdoor space safer and more comfortable.

In the kitchen there is an electric oven, a gas hob, a microwave, two fridges, one freezer, washing machine, dish-washer, coffee maker, plenty of pots and pans and glassware. Ironing board, and iron and outdoor drying space are also provided

For more than one family holidaying together, or reunion groups, Las Razes provides a perfect large gite - your self-catering base for your holiday in South West France.

At one side of our large and ancient converted barn there are six south facing bedrooms (all with en-suite shower rooms). There are four double bedrooms (one of which has an adjoining bedroom with bunk beds) - 3 of the double rooms have super king-size bed, the other a kingsize. There are two twin bedrooms (one has an optional connecting door to one of the double rooms) there is room for a further 'Z' bed in either one of the twin rooms or one of the doubles. In front of the rooms there is a large shady terrace/balcony overlooking the heated swimming pool.

At the other side of the barn there is a vast dining/sitting room with, at one end, a sunny breakfast room, opening onto gardens and terraces and also a games room. This barn has been carefully restored and retains its old oak beams, stonewalls and log burning stoves.

The sitting room has dvd/cd players, ¾ snooker table, dartboard along with a selection of board games and an English library. Satalite TV (from UK) is available in the dining room /lounge. There are plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs, so everyone should be able to find a quiet place any you will never find yourselves short of space.

WIFI (open) available in the lounge/dining room.

Adjoining the sitting room is the well-equipped kitchen with a central island unit. The kitchen contains a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, gas hob and an electric oven, fridges and freezer and general electrical equipment.

Las Razes also has a table tennis table in the garden and bikes for guests to use as well as a key to the lovely local tennis court – giving guests free access to this facility (rackets and balls available to borrow).

The terraced pool area is situated at a slightly lower level and has plenty of leisure furniture. The heated 12 x 5 metre salt-water pool provides an ideal focus for your holiday. The pool is heated during the season (usually from about mid-April up to October).

There is plenty of tourist information available for your to read and suggestions for places to eat and visit are kept in the dining room– and as we live in a house in the garden, we will be around to help and advise if required.

Las Razes is available for rental as a gîte for up to 15 people plus baby (cot and highchair available). Las Razes can book well over 12 months in advance so even If you are at the beginning of planning your holidays - please contact us so that we can pencil you in.

Usually change over days for the gîte is Saturday (Monday for 2013), occassionally we can arrange a different start day for your holiday (this can reduce flight costs). Do enquire about any specific dates you have in mind.

If you would like to have somebody come in during your holiday to clean the house we can try and arrange this for you. Details available at the time of booking. We can also arrange for cakes for special celebrations and for a chef to come and prepare meal(s) for you.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Brilliant place, view, well equipped ( thanks for extra saucepans) lovely gardens and pool. Pool was too deep for littler children but they loved the lakes and river close by and these provided a good excursion out. Also older children loved adventure park. Pool was great for adults and older kids.

We also enjoyed trips out - lots to do!

Many thanks

We left the Lune Valley in the UK in 2005 to look for new challenges. Robert was running his own building company and Anna was working at Lancaster University, so if was a huge gamble to just go and see what was out there, preferably somewhere a little sunnier!

As well opening Las Razes to guests from all over the world during the summer months; both of us keep busy. Robert carries out renovations (and re-roofs) many large stone houses in the region. Anna edits and writes for two English speaking magazines which cover a large area of S W France.

We have a total of 5 children and one grandchild still living in the UK. We don't go back too often as we find it all a bit too noisy, crowded and quick. We look forward, instead, to our family coming out to our 'patch of France'.

Living with us at Las Razes we have our two cats, Tilly and Saffron who enjoy a wonderful life of lounging and hunting.

Anna Atkinson purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Earlier explorations in France had convinced us that this region was for us, it has a beauty and charm that outstrips most of the better known 'holiday areas' we had visited. We had worked out that we wanted to be somewhere close to the triangle that is created by the villages of Montcuq, Lauzerte and Montaigu de Quercy as this offered the rolling hills, woods and valleys that made us feel particularly at home.

When we first saw Las Razes it was in need of a great deal of care and attention, but we could immediately see the potential in what had orginally been an old farmsted.

Set in about 6 acres Las Razes also housed an tumbled down ruin which had been the very first farmhouse on the site and was in a state of complete ruin, it had such a lovely position that we just knew that this was one building that we had to rescue and make into our home of the future.

The views were wonderfully relaxing and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere and this is something that we were not the only ones to notice, many of our visitors have commented that there is a tranquility here that cannot simply be explained by its rural and peaceful location.

Las Razes will be a virtual lifetime's project and fascination!

Las Razes is situated close to the tiny village of Touffailles, which has a small shop, boulangerie, fishing pond, children's play area and tennis court. The village is situated in one of many beautiful valleys in this area - with an abundance of oak woods and fruit and flower growing. The area is famous for its production of melons, plums, nectarines, grapes, sunflowers and cherries.

The medieval villages of Lauzerte (often referred to as the Toledo of Quercy) and Montaigu de Quercy (site of 12th century castle and with lovely bathing lake/water sports) are both about 8km away and offer delightful places to visit along with a range of local services and restaurants/bars and local markets.

Montcuq with its famous 12th century tower, exquisite bathing lake and colourful Sunday market is about 14km away, whilst Cahor and the surrounding vineyards make a lovely day trip. Moissac, a bustling town with lively weekend markets and famous Abbey and Cloisters are about 20 minutes drive away. Other places worth a visit include Penne and Tournon D’Agenais, Agen, Montauban, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Puy-L’Eveque, the caves at Pech Merle and St. Cirq Lapopie.
