SPACIOUS, TRANQUIL, 4 STAR FAMILY CHALET WITH STUNNING VIEWS OF MONT BLANC.

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday chalet in Combloux - Chalet La Ribambelle

6 Bedrooms, 4 Bath/shower rooms, 4 separate WCs, Sleeps 14

Chalet La Ribambelle, 3 minutes by car from the ski slopes and with a shuttle bus at the end of the road, is a beautiful traditional chalet set above the alpine village of Combloux, with spectacular views of the Mont Blanc and its mountain range. It has been used as a family holiday home ever since it was built approximately 50 years ago by our parents. It is set at the end of a quiet lane, with rolling fields below and very few other houses around, providing a wonderfully tranquil setting with plenty of open space. The chalet is on three levels, with the main living accommodation on the middle level. The house sleeps 14 people in six bedrooms with 4 bath or shower rooms, very spacious living areas and wonderful views from most windows.

Simon and Daniele Browne live in London

Simon Browne purchased this chalet in 1960

Daniele's father built La Ribambelle in 1960 for his growing family. He chose the 4000m2 site because of its unique position and view over farmland to Mont Blanc

The secluded position , the spacious building, the wonderful view, the family friendly environment, the proximity to ski slopes and a host of holiday activities

Great property in fabulous position and views

We joined friends at this property for six nights in September when returning from a tour of the Italian lakes.

The property is at the end of a lane and was easy to find using the instructions provided by the owner. There is ample parking on a level site and it was easy to unload the luggage. It is well equipped and has fabulous views towards Mont Blanc from all the common areas and four of the six bedrooms. The property is very clean and well maintained, comfortable, homely and well equipped with free wi-fi and all the electrical gadgets described on the website. It was a very peaceful location just the sound of bells from cows grazing in the field below the property.

There were good walks from the property which is not too far from the village and the small town of Megeve is a short drive away. A great place for touring, relaxing and meeting up with friends and family.

It's as great as it looks in the photos. We would certainly recommend a stay here.

La Rimambelle - a high quality aid to relaxation!

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 14-Oct-2013
  • Date of Stay: Sep 2013
We stayed for three nights. Not being skiers, La Rimambelle was a late Summer opportunity to walk, see some mountains, eat and drink and relax in the company of friends (we were nine in all). We were not disappointed: the views of Mont Blanc were spectacular and constantly changing with the weather, which was sunny for the most part. Excursions to Megeve, and further down the Val d'Arly, also yielded excellent viewing and restaurant eating. Going the other way, we discovered the unusual church of Notre-Dame de Toute Grace du Plateau d'Assy, with artwork by Braque, Chagall, Bonnard and others, as startling for where it is as for what it is. All this and some easy walking and shopping to work up our appetites made this a real break.

La Rimambelle itself is a high quality aid to relaxation. Plenty of space for eating, sleeping and talking. We set up a table for nine on the veranda to enjoy breakfasts in the unseasonable warmth of the sun and - did I mention this? - the fantastic views of Mont Blanc. A modern and well-equipped kitchen meant that meals were easily and quickly organised, leaving us plenty of time to enjoy the food and play games when the day was done. The local management team are friendly and efficient. And the dawn chorus of cowbells never quite lost its charm.

We'd definitely go back again, and strongly recommend it to others.

A very well presented property with all amenities, including many kitchen utensils. We were a party of 6 adults so we had plenty of room and beds were very comfortable. We were there in Autumn and had a great time in the area. megeve is a delightful nearby town with cafés and restaurants when we didn't want to cook. Thoroughly recommended for a good holiday.

Picture postcard views of Mont Blanc

La Ribambelle lives up to all the descriptions and photos and more so. It must be marvellous in the winter and was glorious in late Sept/early October with lots of lovely nearby walks and plenty of places to visit and things to do. The view from every window is breathtaking, accompanied by a symphony of bells from the cows grazing half a mile below, which make it really magical. The chalet is an extremely comfortable home - lovely living room, well equipped kitchen and beds are very comfortable too. It's a great place to stay with friends and accommodates numbers without ever feeling squashed. Can't wait to return!

Fantastic Chalet for Skiing Holiday with Friends

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 08-Apr-2013
  • Date of Stay: Mar 2013
What a wonderful Chalet to spend a week in. We were 2 families of 4, which worked well as the 4 teenage children took over the basement area for sleeping and the adults had the upstairs. The facilites were brilliant and having rented many villas over the years in France we have never been to one that was so well equipped.
The Chalet is perfectly positioned to be able to access La Cry skiing at Combloux as well as slopes at Megeve, such as Mont D'arbois, which we did once La Cry had closed. The ski conditions were fantastic and we spent every day with brilliant instructors and skiing alone.
Ensure you visit Megeve for lovely Crepes, shopping and restaurants as well as Chamonix.
Combloux village is worth a mention as it is only a 3 minute drive from the Chalet which makes it perfect for the morning bread run and getting any essentials throughout the week that you may have forgotten.
One tip is to get your weekly shopping from Carrefour at Sallanches on the way up to the Chalet as it allows for a full week skiing and means it is all a lot cheaper!
As the Chalet is so well equipped it allowed us to finish up with a trip to the Megeve market to have a Raclette evening and an impromptu mini disco on our last evening!!
Thank you to the Browne familiy for allowing us to share their Chalet with us and for Sientge for being so helpful throughout the week if we had required her to be and for her cleaning.
An amazing week spent with friends!

LOCATION . Combloux is one hour from Geneva Airport and 8 hours drive from Calais by motorway. A free shuttle bus runs winter and summer from the end of the road to the ski slopes and to the village. Combloux, described by Victor Hugo as 'the pearl of the Mont Blanc range', has a small supermarket and a range of other shops and restaurants, and is just a few minutes’ drive from the house, which in turn is just a two minute drive from the ski slopes in winter – or great walking in summer. The village has a Wednesday market and a tourist office which co-ordinates lots of local activities for all ages. There is a larger supermarket within a 10 minute drive, and the valley town of Sallanches, with hypermarkets and shopping outlets, is approx. 20 minutes’ drive.

CHALET. La Ribambelle is a spacious family chalet with unbroken views of snow-capped Mont Blanc and its mountain range .

SKIING.Combloux as a ski resort has a good network of slopes with altitude 1200m – 1900m, and is also connected to some of the Megeve slopes and La Giettaz. The resort offers a good range of skiing , downhill and crosscountry, for beginners to advanced and has an excellent , friendly ski school and a creche for young children. Across the valley, 5 minutes away, the modernised telecabine of La Princesse sweeps you to the slopes of Ste Gervais, Mont Arbois and Les Contamines. At the chalet we have a large heated area to store and dry your ski gear, though you can hire lockers next to the slopes at Combloux

GOLF. The Golf Club of Megeve is only 15 minutes away. A club which holds many tournaments and has the most beautiful mountain views, to make even a bad round of golf a pleasure. It has a very comfortable bar and a good restaurant. There are three other excellent courses within a 45 minute drive: Chamonix, Giez and Esery.

WALKING. A superb centre for walking in summer and winter. You can start your walk from the chalet . The whole region is ideal for walking and the walks are well marked. In the beautiful clean alpine air, with wonderful views and unspoilt countryside , it is a walker's paradise. Some lifts function in summer for both walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts.Restaurants and bars are to be found on some of the paths.

ACTIVITIES. Swimming. In summer you can swim in the bio-lake in the village, unique in its natural water cleansing system, with lovely lake-side grassy areas to sun-bathe, and adjacent restaurant and beauty centre offering a range of treatments. The Montenvers rack and pinion railway takes you to the Glacier, the Mer de Glace, where you can walk inside the glacier in a cut out tunnel with ice sculptures.Unforgettable.

Annecy, a beautiful medieval town, with lovely shops,a huge lake and a huge choice of restaurants is well worth a visit and is 1 hour away either across a mountain pass or by motorway.

Le Fayet/St Gervais. (20 mins) The tramway de Mont Blanc takes you for an hours trip up the mountainside .

From the main line station a narrow guage railway, the Mont Blanc Express, takes a 90min trip through the mountains and glaciers to Martigny in Switzerland, giving the most remarkable views. The Fondation Gianadda art gallery in Martigny has a remarkable collection of masters and a fascinating collection of very early motor cars in the basement with an eclectic array of sculptures in the extensive gardens. It features many special exhibitions.
