Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Wareham - The Tower

Church with tower. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Wifi, set in beautiful countryside

This unique property known as 'The Tower' is part of the beautifully converted Church of St Mary in East Stoke. Built in 1829 on the River Frome, it has easy access to the river for canoeing and is very close to all the major beaches of Dorset. 'The Tower' incorporates the front entrance to the original Church and a large proportion of the remainder. It retains many original features and is now a modern comfortable and unique home from home. It has a large lounge dining area with open plan kitchen on the ground floor, a wonderful lounge upstairs with a spiral staircase up to the bell tower. It has incredible views over the Purbeck hills and was featured on BBC's 'Escape to the Country' as the mystery property.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a beautiful spot. Lovely conversion, fantastic views and so easy to get to most places in Dorset. We loved Monkey World which is 2 minutes up the road.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had a great few days, based in the wonderful tower.

It is a stunning conversion, full of quirks and hidden corners, and with all facilities one could need. We were walking the coast path which was muddy, windy and occasionally wet - so great to come back to hot baths and showers and then settle into the huge sofas.

Tiny tip would be to make sure the central heating is on for longer before guests come during cold winter spells. It took a day for the huge space and stone walls to warm up.

But we would highly recommend this lovely home to others.

What a place!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Tower to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday with his two daughters, and grandchildren, there were nine of us altogether. What a fabulous place, really homely and cosy, really impressive. We had a fabulous weekend, the grandchildren loved it, really well equipped with everything you need, spotlessly clean and well kept. We all loved it and hope to go back one day.

Lovely house, fascinating building and location

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and roomy property with lots of interesting levels and features. Good location for exploring Dorset and lots of attractions relatively nearby, we tried clay pigeon shooting and horse riding and Monkey World. Lots of good pubs round about and Wareham was good for shopping and the Food auction of farmers produce is brilliant. Lovely Saxon walled town with good restaurants by the quay where you can take boat trips. You will love it.

The Family had a fantastic time and a very well equipped Tower. Gordon and Teresa were brilliant at corresponding. We will definitely be returning. The Tower is well placed for things to do for both Adults and Children, Monkey World, Tank Museum, Dorchester amongst the places close by. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Stunning, individual and homely

  • 4 of 5

We booked The Tower for a girls weekend away and we had an incredible three days! It is the most unique building I have ever stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone who wants some time in the country.

The Tower is in a fantastic location, very near to Wareham and just a short drive to Corfe Castle, the beautiful Lulworth and the larger town of Poole. You definitely do need to have a car (or two) but that's true of most places in such a beautiful area.

The Tower itself had everything we needed - it was well facilitated towels, bedding and all the kitchen equipment you'd ever needed. We cooked a good number of great meals for the 7 of us! Bedrooms are very nicely furnished and the living spaces are gorgeous. For a church tower it is incredibly homely, warm and impeccably clean. The décor is modern and well styled and we had all the entertainment we needed with large TVs, radio, stereos and so forth. There is also a very good range of DVDs, CDs and books available to use.

It was a perfect base for us and we'd go back in an instant!!

Whilst we were there we went to the Watersports Academy at Sandbanks in Poole and did some sea kayaking. We also had dinner at the Morton's House Hotel in Corfe Castle which I would also recommend for a really nice evening meal in a beautiful village. Other than that, I'd advise doing a bit of exploring along the coast. Durdledoor and the other beaches close by are just stunning.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend and I'd like to thank Gordon for allowing us to stay in such a memorable place!

Really lovely and homely, had a great weekend :)

Completely agree with the other reviewers, a great and unique place to stay. We had a party of 8 (6 adults and 2 children) and the property worked really well as it is so spacious and well equipped. The owner was responsive to my many queries (sorry!) and the manager was very helpful. Would recommend and definitely like to stay again.

The Tower is located on the River Frome, within 2 miles of Dorset's stunning Jurassic coast. Close to the picturesque market town of Wareham, and a short drive away from Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester and Weymouth.

The famous tourist attractions of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, Corfe Castle and Studland are close by and easily accessible by car or bike. It is the ideal base for families with children with Monkey World, Steam Railway, ferry trips, fishing and miles of beaches within minutes. Just 2 hours from London Waterloo on the mainline rail service to Weymouth this is an ideal getaway weekend venue.

With beautiful views of the Purbeck Hills, and lovely walks along the River Frome this is a romantic and historic location deep in Hardy country. The church is the probable location for Tess of the Durbeville's marriage. The church was built in 1829 and retains many original features with much of the original stained glass retained, yet has the comfort and warmth of a recent conversion to the highest standards of modern luxury.
