TRADITIONAL APARTMENT IN GRASMERE, IN THE CENTRE OF THE VILLAGE.WITH FREE WI-FI

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Grasmere - Water's Edge, Riverside

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, sleeps a maximum of 4

An apartment built of traditional Lake District stone and slate with all the modern comforts of home. Situated within a conservation area in the heart of Grasmere village next to the river and within yards of the churchyard where Wordsworth is buried. There is a floor to ceiling window in the lounge from which to admire the river, the fells and the sheep grazing. Shops, pubs and restaurants are all within easy walking distance without the use of your car.

Grasmere is the 'Jewel of the English Lakes' one of the most beautiful of the lakeland villages. The most famous resident William Wordsworth described it as 'the loveliest spot that man bath ever found' and most people agree with his sentiments today. There are many walks in the area for all levels of walkers. The village boasts several pubs and restaurants, art galleries and gift shops. The River Rothay runs through on it's way to Grasmere lake, where you can hire a rowing boat or just sit and admire the views. As the apartment was purchased for use as our 'second home' we have furnished it to a high standard, and we feel you will have a very relaxing holiday. Walking Maps and Guide Books are provided for your use during your stay. From the windows at the rear of the property you look onto the river with uninterrupted views across parkland towards the fells and yet you are able to walk straight into the village from the gate, without having to use a car.

Lovely comfortable apartment in brilliant location

  • 5 out of 5
Great place to stay. Accurate description. Very comfortable with lots of extras like walking maps to refer to and loads DVD. Very clean. Location superb- many restaurants , cafes and good walks on doorstep without need to use the car. We were a couple but would easily suit 4. Remember to take shaver adapter to charge the electric toothbrush but everything else is there. Would love to go again.

Water's Edge Grasmere - 2 adults + 2 teenage girls

Water's Edge Grasmere - 2 adults + 2 teenage girls
  • 5 out of 5
Despite the unseasonable weather reports, we ventured North to the Lake District as planned. We are so glad that we did. Water's Edge was everything that we had hoped for and more. Clean, warm, comfortable, spacious, all necessary conveniences and ideally located, we were ecstatic. There was a warm and informative welcome from Sheila on arrival then we unpacked and planned our walks. So many delightful walks from the village without having to use the car. There were many lovely restaurants and bars but we were on a budget and our daughters pushed us hard with the walks during the day, so we opted to shop at a large supermarket in Kendal and self cater. Everything was supplied that was needed for catering 'at home' a lovely fan oven with gas hob, a microwave, copious pots and pans and knives and a large dishwasher. The large fridge freezer comfortably housed our provisions for the week and we were all set. The heating and hot water were easily accessed without any fuss and the main shower upstairs was fantastic - our daughters wanted to take it home. This review may seem gushing but we have stayed in a variety of accommodations at home and abroad over the years. This is superb as a self catering option. Go and see for yourselves - we are certainly intending to stay only here when we return to the Lakes.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. We have offered our 2nd home for holidays now for many years and it is good to know that we are still providing what our guests want. As it's our 2nd home we offer what we would want to find ourselves on a self catering holiday, we update the amenities regularly and we tell our guests to treat our apartment as their home whilst staying there. We would love to welcome you back to "Water's Edge" again in the future. Susan Davidson

Tales from the Riverbank

  • 5 out of 5
We arrived on a very wet day to a warm welcome and a glowing fire. The apartment is just as described by other guests: cosy, comfortable, clean and with a cottagey ‘hideaway’ appeal. It is also very well equipped, right down to the binoculars strategically placed by the window seat. The views are wonderful from the floor to ceiling window and sitting there feels as though you are suspended above the river because the building is right on the river’s edge. The website photos really don’t do it justice. Luckily, we had three very sunny days and were able to ‘conquer’ Helm Crag and enjoy the fabulous views. There are so many walks you are spoilt for choice and they are all helpfully displayed in the owner’s voluminous(!) information file. We found the local Coop to be more than adequate for our catering needs during the week and after a long day’s hiking we were happy to spend the evenings in the apartment after a few drinks in the excellent Tweedies Bar. It really felt like a home from home. A car is definitely not a necessity. We arrived by train and taxied to the apartment. Everything is on your doorstep and there is a good bus service if you want to venture outside of Grasmere. The church where Wordsworth is buried is just a stone’s throw away and we visited one evening at around 10 p.m. without another tourist in sight. It was truly atmospheric. Tourists passing through during the day have usually disappeared by the early evening and so noise is minimal despite the apartment’s central location. All in all, an extremely attractive and comfortable base from which to explore the beauties of the Lake District.

Really lovely holiday

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at here at Easter last year and had a really good time. The apartment was perfect for us, a really lovely view over the river and a cosy feel inside. Great location in Grasmere. We don't have a car and were travelling by train, Grasmere was ideal as it is a 30min bus ride from Windemere or 15mins in a taxi. The apartment had a great location in the centre of the village. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Meant to write this review straight away but have only just got round to it!

Lovely apartment

  • 5 out of 5
My partner and I have just returned from Grasmere having stayed in this lovely apartment. It is in an excellent location and is very well equipped. It is clear the owners take pride in their property and we found it very homely. It is well looked after and there are many things that can be used to keep you amused on those rainy days! It is lovely inside and a lovely outlook. Would definitely recommend. There are many walks to be done from Grasmere, so need to use the car, but also not far to drive to Ambleside, Great Langdale (lovely walks here) and Windermere to name a few. We ate at a few restaurants in the village but The Jumble Rooms was by far the best. The puzzle shop is worth a browse.

A Privilege To Stay Here!

  • 5 out of 5
We had a great week in this idyllic spot. The apartment was fabulous, clean, comfy and the perfect location to explore the beautiful Lake District. We loved being in the middle of the village with it's conveniences as well as literally a stone's throw from the stunning countryside. It was so relaxing to unwind after a busy day sightseeing and returning to the apartment, especially sitting and soaking in the awesome views from the lounge window. Enjoyed an exhiliarating climb up Alcock Tarn, the breath taking views making it worth the effort. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to all!

Grasmere lies almost at the centre of the Lake District National Park. The village nestles in the hills near to the lake and is well known for its association with Wordsworth and the Romantic poets. The churchyard where Wordsworth is buried and the Gingerbread shop are very close by and the spectacular scenery is popular for walkers.
