About Yvonne Hill
We own and run a 4 star Town house Hotel in Penzance Cornwall and a 2 AA rosette restaurant, The Bay www.hotelpenzance.com
We should both have retired by now, but love our work, and are slowly progressing towards semi- retirement, enjoying travel and our holiday home when we can. We have 4 grown up sons who chill here when they can away from city life.
Yvonne Hill purchased this villa in 2006
Why Yvonne Hill chose Dalyan
The area is designated as outstanding in natural beauty.
The house was semi constructed when we saw it. It had been a labour of love, built by a structural engineer and his architect sister. Having no English, they had run out of money with little prospect of a purchaser when we came along. We could see the care which had been lavished on the construction, and the Turkish styling suited our idea of a home in semi rural Turkey. It was completed in early 2006 - It is Turkish in style with real love and craftsmanship in it's construction. Since then the garden has matured beautifully.
The community remains small, leisurely and mixed Turkish Dutch and English
What makes this villa unique
The villa has genuine Turkish neighbours making it much more of a social and cultural experience to visit. The pace of life is slow, and the locality verdant and productive.
The alignment of the villa takes full advantage of the afternoon breezes every day coming up the valley from the sea - bliss in high summer :)
The pool is private and well screened.
Guestbook comments from the owner
Villa Kehribar is a beautiful villa outside Dalyan. It is spacious and well kept with a lovely pool & beautiful gardens with many shady spots for quiet reading and to relax. It was wonderful to have our morning cuppa out on the roof terrace with nothing but the sound of birds, grasshoppers, a cockerel & a cow every now & then. Beautiful dragonflies hover regularly by the pool. The Gunluk picnic restaraunt 5 minutes down the lane serves great food, we enjoyed several steak & fish dinners there & they even sorted take-away pizzas for hubby & I to take back to the villa for our weary teenagers! The downside is that when we arrived we had 52 degrees and it remained in the forties for first week, this was not the problem but the 15-20 min walk to Dalyan took a good 30-35 mins in such intense heat. We had 3 fit teenagers with us so it wasnt that we were walking slowly but in the heat of the day, the walk is pretty tricky. We did find details of the local taxi service (English speaking) see the info book in the villa. He charged 20 Lira each way but as most nights we'd eat in Dalyan & then go to Migros supermarket to stock up on groceries,(the taxi co. is right next door) so the guy would help us load the provisions into the car and then take us home. The rep(Durmus) was wonderful & so helpful. We organised lots of trips: jeep safari (our 3rd one in Turkey), Turkish baths, 2 boat trips (& we hired the boat just for the 5 of us), Tlos and Salkikient Gorge and although we have done them before, they didn't disappoint. We have such wonderful memories of Turkey once again. We ate out in the Caretta Caretta right at the end of the town, overlooking the tombs which are lit at night. Food as excellent there as it was 5 yrs ago. We also ate in the Secret Garden, and several other lovely places along the river. We booked a shuttle (free) to Ley Ley & enjoyed another great night there. Dalyan does seem a little busier and more touristy in the town centre but if you are away from the hustle & bustle, you'll see the real side of this wonderful country. A highlight of our trip was to catch the Farmers tractor at 9am on Saturday down the lane to the town & the market and it brought us back via little farm holdings at midday. A real treat & free!! Market still full of bargain genuine fakes & you can haggle to your hearts content. Dont just buy the fake stuff, bring home the Turkish coffee,
