Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Machico - Villa Ricardo

A Villa with private and heated pool, enjoying uninterrupted panoramic sea view.

The Villa Ricardo is a charming villa located in a beautiful slope above the entrance of Porto da Cruz.

It is a large property with a high level comfortable accommodation in a quiet location, has several terraces enjoying uninterrupted panoramic sea view, and a subtropical garden of exotic fruit trees and small banana trees.

The property owner valued a stylish and friendly environment. The house has 3 double bedrooms, (with the possibility of an extra bed and cradle for baby), all with private bathroom (shower) and TVset. In the winter all the rooms are heated by a device that recovers the heat released by the fireplace, and automatically distributes it to the rooms.

The sitting-room is equipped with TVset, DVD, Stereo System, Computer, Internet WI-FI, Safety Deposit Box, WC, and the kitchen is fully equipped.

Outside you can enjoy the subtropical garden of exotic fruit trees, the heated pool and the sunbathing area with views to the ocean and to the Village. It's a truly magical and relaxing scenario!

In September, wine is made in Villa Ricardo, by a centennial traditional process and our guests are invited to participate in the making of wine!

There is also a historical wine cellar where guests are invited to taste our wines!!

if you are looking for a Villa with a private and heated pool, inserted in the nature and in a quiet environment, the Villa Ricardo is perfect for you!

The Villa Ricardo is the opportuniity to spend your vacations freely, with privacy, close to the sea and even closer to nature...

A villa off the beaten track.

  • 4 out of 5
Villa Ricardo was a lovely place for my family to go between Christmas and the New Year. Mr Ricardo and Mrs Betty made us very welcome and looked after all the queries which we had very efficiently and found some good places for us to eat and gave us some useful tips about the Island. The villa is well appointed and the fireplace was great. In the winter it is too cold to swim but it was still lovely to sit by the pool for breakfast when the morning sun shines onto the terrace. Porto da Cruz is an authentic quiet village and a change from the bustle of Funchal and yet an easy car drive from it. It has some spectacular countryside around it and is a perfect base for those keen on walking the levadas or exploring the island.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your words!
Our primary objective in Villa Ricardo, is to make the holiday of our guests, unforgettable and memorable...
We try to advise our guests, for the gastronomical specialties (indicating restaurants, and what to eat), for the activities (walking tours, see dolphins, play sports, cultural events...)
The Villa Ricardo offers two types of tourism.
In the summer you can find the colorful and fun tourism, where the swimming pool is the delight of young and older.
In the winter, as you testified, you could live a cozy, warm and romantic tourism, with a real fireplace with firewood, with the garden surrounded by fruit trees of the season, and an excellent weather!
We are waiting for you in the summer, so you can prove our pool and other fantastic activities you can do here on Madeira Island!
Best Regards
Ricardo Ramos

Wonderful place to spend the vacation

  • 5 out of 5
We spent two beautiful weeks in this nice house with a great view to the sea. The house has 3 bedrooms with separate bathrooms and separate entrances. There is a nice and clean pool where you can enjoy the mild weather under banana trees. All facilities such as washer, dryer, dish washer, satellite TV, WLAN etc. are available. Several restaurants and the beach are within walking distance. The friendliness of the housekeeper and the owner was really outstanding. Really the only somewhat disturbing item was the road next to the house with quite some traffic in the morning.

For our needs the perfect accommodation

It was a perfect holiday in a fantastic holiday home in Madeira.
Everything was wonderful. The kids loved to jump at any time of day into the pool , which is situated fantastically between banana trees.
Many thanks to Ricardo and Miss Roberta for the loving hospitality.

Maison confortable et très propre

  • 4 out of 5

Wonderful Villa, Great Location!

  • 5 out of 5
We have just returned from a fantastic two weeks in Madeira staying at Villa Ricardo.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welocme and at home. We were greeted by the owner Mr Ramos and the housekeeper Rubina. After an extensive tour of the house we were treated to some home made Madeira wine and Brandy fresh from the cask! This care and hospitality from our hosts continued throughout our stay. Rubina is a mine of information about the Island as well as a diligant housekeeper who ensures the very high standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout your stay(Villa cleaned 3 times a week - including bedding!). Furthermore, she takes real pride in her work, the villa and her home island.
The Villa is spacious and has an amazing sub-tropical garden (mangoes, bananas, oranges etc) which is just the forground to stunning views in all directions. The pool is warm and well maintained - it was very well used throughout our stay and we suggest swimming at night with the pool lights on.
The Villa is well situated to explore the rest of the Island. 15 minutes from the Airport, 25 minutes from the wonderful capital city Funchal and close to numerous Levada walks and places of interest. Not having visited Madeira before we considered oursleves lucky that we choose this location as we could have easliy been isolated in a different part of the island.
There are many things to keep you occupied and inspired on Madeira. Some highlights for us were Dolphin and Whale spotting, the botanical gardens, swimming in the outdoor polls at Porto Moniz(one of the best in the world!), Levada walks(there are many of various difficulties - but come prepared with suitable footwear), Sao Vincent and the Volcano Centre, Funchal(shopping, cable cars, restaurants, afternoon tea at Reids), the Nuns Valley and associated view points along the way.
We will be returning to the Villa Ricardo to visit many of the places on this amazing Island we didn't have time for during this two week stay. I have no hesitation in recommending this property to family or friends. The best Villa my family have visited run by two of the most hospitable people you could wish to meet. Fantastic!

Great stay in Porto da Cruz

  • 4 out of 5
We had a great stay in Villa Ricardo. On arrival we were hospitable welcomed by Ricardo and Rubina and had a nice taste of the winecellar.
The villa offers many bedrooms and the poolsite is great although the water temperature could be a bit higher. The views from the terrace are terrific. The villa is especially nicely situated if you want to discover the north of Madeira, while also Funchal is only 20 minutes away.
Absolutely recommended!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful words! We are very happy you've loved to spend your holiday in Villa Ricardo! We always make an effort to make our guests feel at home! It seems that once again we made it! ;) The pool water that was heated and was around 25 degrees as indicated in the thermometer! On hot days, when the sun goes high, we feel that the water is colder ... is normal because our bodies when exposed to the sun for too long, they get very hot!! You should have tried a few night dives ... gonna love it ... and would feel the pool water warmer than the outside temperature! The baths at night with only starlight in Villa Ricardo, is a fascinating experience! We will be waiting for you in the future! ;) Thanks a lot!

PORTO DA CRUZ VILLAGE

Porto da Cruz is one of the parishes belonging to the Machico council. Its name came from a cross (Cruz) that was placed by the explorers on the bay once used as port (Porto). The attractions of this small parish are hidden and youll have to take a closer look to find them. One of them is the old sugar cane factory, which is still operating, as it was when it started with the sugar production in 1927. It boasts a 26 meter tall tower and when its working you might even see steam coming out!

Not to be missed is also the place known as Penha dÁguia, an imposing rock that separates Porto da Cruz from Faial. Getting up there might be a challenge, as the road is very steep, but the songs of the birds will help you on the way up and once you get there youll be sure it was definitely worth

Porto da Cruz is also famous for its wine. Known as vinho seco americano (dry red wine made of a type of grape called americana), this local product is the theme for a celebration usually happening in September (Festa do Vinho). In Porto da Cruz there are another two wonderful religious celebrations, with great beauty. The first occurs on days 15 and 16 of August, and the second, at the following weekend (Saturday and Sunday). They are celebrations that visitors should not miss!!!

The Porto the Cruz village is on the northeast coast of Madeira and from there you can quickly get to the Airport (12 minutes by car), to the nearest golf course in Santo da Serra (15 minutes by car) and to the neighbouring cities and villages like Machico, Santo da Serra, Santana and Faial, amongst other interesting places you can easily visit.

The Porto da Cruz village has, mini markets, restaurants equipped with several different kitchens, bars, transport services, health services, able to provide to the visitor, the satisfaction of emerging daily needs.

The weather in Madeira Island is generally quite stable and mild throughout the year.

Porto da Cruz has in its extensive and cut coast, two natural beaches of black sand, and a public swimming pool of salt water. The water temperature (22 centigrade) is surprisingly enjoyable in the summer.

MADEIRA´S CAPITAL , FUNCHAL.

Madeira's capital, Funchal, is an enchanting town set on a glittering bay against a background of soaring green mountains. Winding cobbled streets meander between elegant colonial-style buildings, nestling into the shelter of the verdant hillside. Funchals historic core overlooks the harbour and features some fine government buildings and stately 18th-century mansions. Its deep natural harbour attracted early settlers in the 15th century.

What to see. The simple whitewashed Sé Cathedral was built between 1486 and 1514. Inside, its main features are the magnificent mudejar ceiling of Madeira cedar wood and the voluptuous Baroque carving of the golden Sacramento chapel to the right of the main altar. Now a museum, the Quinta das Cruzes on Calçada do Pico is the house where the islands discoverer, João Gonçalves Zarco, once lived. Next door is the pretty 16th century church of Santa Clara where he lies buried. The Old Blandy Wine Lodge occupies part of a former Franciscan friary dating back to the 17th century. Guided visits include a tour of the cellars and a wine-tasting session.

Nearby. Opened to the public in 1960, the Botanical Gardens on the edge of town display plants from all over the world, including desert cacti, rainforest orchids and South African proteas. The famous toboggan ride from Monte to Funchal is an exhilarating experience and takes approximately 20 minutes. Madeiran tobogganing was invented as a form of passenger transport around 1850. Much frequented by Sir Winston Churchill in the 1950s, the pretty fishing village of Câmara de Lobos to the west of Funchal offers spectacular views of the worlds second-highest sea cliff, Cabo Girão (589 m). Also within easy reach of Funchal is the deep valley location of Curral das Freiras (Nuns Refuge) near the centre of the island.
