Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday barn in Jeux les Bard - Le Joli Regain (Little Barn)
Single-level gîte for 2 people with own garden, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

Lying on the edge of a quiet village in a rural river valley given over to small-scale, hedged livestock & arable farms dotted with woodland & the occasional vineyard, this property has its own walled garden. Converted in 2011, the “Joli Regain” is a cosy, modern & comfortable, single-storey holiday rental suitable for two people. It has a professionally-fitted, fully equipped kitchen, one double (or twin if preferred) bedroom & a bathroom with spacious modern shower. Unusually for Burgundy, there are no steps into or inside the building; its design is open plan, with a large living area & plenty of light being provided by large south-facing windows & French doors leading onto the garden. “Le Joli Regain” comfortably accommodates people of reduced mobility - in order for us to make your stay as comfortable as possible, please let us know at the time of booking.

Enjoying the tranquillity of a rural setting, this gîte is also within easy reach of some important tourist sites, the A6 & A5 autoroutes & Montbard high-speed (TGV) station. Dogs welcome, provided they do not get up onto the bed oro ther furniture! Gated parking off the road.

Owners usually on site - help or advice, if needed; otherwise we'll leave you in peace!

WINE LOVERS* - if you are interested in buying Burgundy wines, we can put you in touch with a bilingual colleague who runs private wine tours and/or tastings in the region.

BIRD WATCHERS* - we know a local bilingual enthusiast who can accompany you on a CYCLING or WALKING trip (half or full day).

VISERNY (population 200) is situated in the Auxois area of the Côte d'Or 'département' of Burgundy, between the towns of EPOISSES (12km), SEMUR-EN-AUXOIS (12km) and MONTBARD (14km).

EPOISSES, world-renowned for its pungent and creamy AOC (PDO) cheese, also has a small château open for visits.

The medieval, walled town of SEMUR-EN-AUXOIS, sitting atop a pink granite promontory above the River Armançon, is very picturesque with its ramparts, towers and cobbled streets.

Overlooking the Burgundy Canal, MONTBARD has a high-speed train (TGV) station - with a journey time of a little over an hour, a day-trip to PARIS is perfectly feasible. There are also less frequent (but also direct) services to Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport or Lille.

Also in the area, the interesting cities of DIJON & AUXERRE are just over an hour's drive away. After visiting the ducal palace & doing some shopping in DIJON, you may like to take a drive along the 'Route des Vins', do some wine tasting and visit Clos de Vougeot.

BEAUNE, 'capital of BURGUNDY WINES', takes fractionally less time to reach and will satisfy lovers of wine, food & history alike!

To the north-west of Viserny, the vineyards of CHABLIS, IRANCY & SAINT BRIS are also within easy reach.

Places of HISTORICAL INTEREST in the area include ALESIA, where the Gauls made their last stand against Julius Caesar in 52BC and the superb UNESCO World Heritage sites of FONTENAY ABBEY and the hill & basilica at VEZELAY. The Forges de BUFFON, Burgundian Renaissance châteaux of TANLAY & ANCY-LE-FRANC, half-timbered houses & atmosphere of NOYERS-SUR-SEREIN, hilltop, fortified village of CHATEAUNEUF-EN-AUXOIS and hilltop village of FLAVIGNY-SUR-OZERAIN (used as a set for the film 'Le Chocolat') are also worth visiting.

Bsides this, we're spoilt for choice for colourful markets, including AVALLON, CHABLIS, MONTBARD, SAULIEU and even BEAUNE & CHALON-SUR-SAONE.

If you enjoy more NATURAL & LOCAL PURSUITS, the immediate area around Viserny is ideal for walking, running and cycling; the mostly hedged lanes are very quiet with numerous walking paths across a mixed landscape of small-scale arable & livestock fields and wooded areas. Birdwatching is another rewarding activity.

Not much further away, you could take a picnic with you to the MORVAN natural regional park, more locally swim or rent a pedalo or kayak at Semur's Lac de Pont or follow part of the BURGUNDY CANAL along the European 'VOIE VERTE' cycle path.

Scenic, Tranquil, Beautiful

I would highly recommend this property for those who are looking for a corner of France that is surrounded with beautiful panoramic views and blissful tranquillity!

The property was immaculate in its cleanliness and the selection of maps and guides provided were particularly useful for us when travelling to nearby villages and further afield to Beaune. Stuart and Jules were also very helpful with their knowledge of local markets, restaurants etc. to enable us to make the most of our stay.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday here and would without a doubt recommend it.

The property actually looks better than the website, everything spotless and modern kitchen. Also lots of extra's such as jam, coffee, nice towels, magazines, DVDs. Great internet connection. Lovely outdoor sitting area. Local scenery and restaurants excellent. Quiet rural village. The owners were on hand as needed but maintained privacy.
I would highly recommend this

Relaxing, Great Location & Total Comfort!

Relaxing, Great Location & Total Comfort!
5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 16 August 2012 Date of Stay: August 2012
We very much enjoyed at our stay in Viserny and wanted to say a big thank you to Stuart and Jules, who are great hosts that 1) provided lots of useful recommendations and local information (the Sunday market in Chablis was very nice!), 2) were quick and responsive in managing our rental request and 3) are very discreet and let you enjoy your stay at your own pace.

The charm of the barn is kept after the renovation but with all the added perks of modern comfort. The kitchen is new and fully equipped, with a dishwasher and all kinds of dishes and pans to make anything you want. We were also really happy to see a very good espresso machine, and used it often.

The rental is spacious and light, and much bigger in person than in the photos. It is also spotless, and has great quality towels, bed linens, nice firm bed and a high resolution TV.

The outdoor garden space is private and has chairs as well as an outdoor sofa to relax in the sun.

The location is perfect: a quick drive to the lovely town of Semur en Auxois, and is also very close also to Epoisses (cheese!). Chablis and Avallon are not far either, and we plan to go to Dijon next time (about an hour away, I think). Lots of shops (InterMarché, Auchan, SuperU) and bakeries are a short drive away in Semur en Auxois, which is very convenient.

Our dog loved the long walks around the area and down by the river.

All of the little extras made for an excellent stay, and we'll be back soon!

Many thanks,
Sarah, Adel & Lucie (the dog) from Lyon, France

Totally relaxing place to stay

Review Submitted: 23 July 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
What a wonderful place to stay.Stuart and Jules made us feel very welcome, and gave us so much useful information(ie when the bakers van comes!!)
Perfect holiday for dog owners, lots of great walks, and a walled garden as well.
The neighbors were very friendly, and by the end of the week we felt like part of the village(the English people with the big dog!!)
The barn is well situated for visits to Dijon,Semur etc.
The barn had everything you could need, and was up to a very high standard.
We would love to come again to visit the places we didn't have time to go to .
Thank you so much for a lovely relaxing stay
