The Watermill that once ground the cereals for the whole town

The main building has five ensuite bedrooms, all of them equipped with TV, internet, telephone, and heating.

It also has a big lounge with a fireplace, a scenic sitting room, and a fully equipped kitchen with a big open fireplace, where a delicious “Posta à Mirandesa” (typical dish of roasted beef) grilled directly over hot coals, will be a real treat for guests to savour. Breakfast included.

The “Moinho da Ponte Velha” (old Bridge Mill) was owned by Mr. Varilhas, who not only lived there but also ground cereals for the whole city and all the surrounding areas. After his death the property was abandoned and for about half a century both the house and the Mill were in ruins.

In 1982 it was bought by the father of the current owner, Lucília de Castro Carção, but only in 2007 has the first diligence to start the restoration been made.

Sabor River: Sabor River (the water that comes from the mountain goes through the interior of the Mill and joins the Sabor River)

The Sabor River rises in “Sierra de Gamoneda” (Gamoneda Mountain) in the province of Zamora (Spain), enters Portugal, and crosses the “Serra de Montesinho” (Montesinho Mountain) in the District of Bragança.

It is a tributary of the right bank of the Douro River, and its mouth is near Torre de Moncorvo downstream from Pocinho’s Dam.

Its name is pronounced in a peculiar way, opening the “a” and closing the “o”.

Maçãs River; Angueira River; Fervença River; Azibo River; Ribeira da Vilariça.

Guided visits to the city’s major landmarks. Donkey and horseback ridings. Fishing in the Sabor River. Visit to the reservoir of Miranda do Douro’s Dam (Natural Park of Douro Internacional) perhaps one of the most amazing reservoirs of the whole country, because of its impressively steep banks, and unusually rich fauna and flora. Visits to Azibo (River beach located between the fertile Valey of the “Serra de Nogueira” and the Azibo River) , and to Puebla de Sanabria (natural Lake in Spain). Jeep tours to the Natural Park of Montesinho.
