Guestbook comments from the owner

What a super base this is to explore this wonderful area. The view across the loch enticed us to visit the Ardnamurchan peninsula -- a beautiful trip on a glorious autumnal day.

After staying in 20 properties over the last 17 years I can honestly say this was the best, the photos don't do it justice.

Wonderful Kentallen

  • 5 out of 5
Fern bank cottage was wonderful, the stunning loch and mountain views are a site to behold, especially with the appearance of the Golden eagle on the first morning. The cottage perfectly suited our party of six ( two couples and two singles) all the bedrooms were light and spacious, Holly Tree pub across the road was very good as was the Creagan inn in Appin towards Oban. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants a nice relaxed stay, did not want to leave and will undoubtedly return to continue our Scottish adventure

A stunning well equipped property in an amazing location of which photograph could possibly do justice. At the end of a tough year we were lucky enough to be able to secure a last minute cancellation and had an amazing Christmas away from the hustle and bustle. The property had been tastefully decorated with Christmas decorations and a wee tree which was a lovely touch not to mention the welcome pack which included a nice bottle of wine, chocolate biscuits & tea etc. The property is maintained to a high standard and a joy to be inside looking out as the next wave of Scottish winter weather rolls in from the stunning hills trying to throw it's worst at you. The property is centrally located with access to everything you could possibly need for an active or relaxing break. Alan the owner was very helpful and I would highly recommend Fernbank to all. You will not be disappointed!

surpassed all expectations

Cant speak highly enough of this lovely property. We have stayed in the area previously and needed a little more space this year due to the size of our group.Fernbank was perfect.2 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms.En suite double is huge!!!Together with further bathroom and downstairs tiolet getting ready was so much easier than the usual wait.A great sized conservatory with lots of seating and further dining option was a lovely area to sit and watch the fabulous sunset in the evenings. What really impressed me was the fact that the ample dining table in the dining room itself seated 8,so often we have rented accomodation which didnt sit the amount of people the let was for and so have resorted to stools etc.Had everything we needed in way of crockery/cutlery/bakeware etc.Though the Holly Tree opposite was such a great place to eat we didnt do much self catering apart from breakfast. They serve the most sublime scallops.A big hello to Eric the lovliest waiter. The cottage located anywhere would be impressive but the "icing on the cake"has to be the views.Looking out at the Loch at anytime of day was simply stunning.Spotlessly clean which we put down to Sally whom we met when leaving.Only negative was sadly the lack of snow meant that the skiers and boarders in the group didnt get their slice of slope action but were more than content with the week we had.Visited the seal sanctuary(hit with 2 year old grandaughter).Called at the Creagan Inn on way back and had a great meal.Excellent friendly staff and great views from deck area outside.Met the pub dog Brodie..a real softie (and another hit with grandaughter)Took the ferry to Argdour and had lovely drive.Paid our usual visit to Loch Etive and photograph the stunning deer on the way.Ate at our fave haunt the Clachaig Inn on way back.Could have done so much more but the week went so quickly.Didnt want to come home and missed the views terribly when I awoke next day.A great big thanks to Alan the owner for all his help and arranging a travel cot (and the welcome pack)and again to Sally for all her obvious hard work.Cant wait to return.
