Janet Hamilton purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Janet Hamilton chose County Down

Simply....the views are second to none! We have travelled the world and stayed in many wonderful places but the view of the mountains and the bay at Dundrum captured our heart. We plan to retire there and can't imagine ourselves ever parting with it! It has been our pleasure to share it with guests from all around the world and many return each year, sometimes twice or three times a year to enjoy it! I think it has captured their heart also!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of only three properties at The Quay which have floor to ceiling corner windows taking in both the views of the Bay and the Mountains. We may be bias but we believe we chose the best spot! It is bright and spacious and as soon as you walk in through the doors, we guarantee you will relax! It is totally calm and peaceful and it wouldn't be hard to lose track of time kicking back and enjoying the ever changing views. We take pride in how we present the apartment for our guests and the furnishings, artwork, bedlinen etc are all of good quality. Believe me, we want you to have a wonderful experience and to enjoy your stay at the apartment as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received these lovely comments on a "thank you" card from our recent guests "Dear Janet, We had a really lovely holiday at your wonderful apartment. It is so comfortable and convenient and we will never forget the views of the bay and mountains. There are so many nice places close to Dundrum and we enjoyed walks at Murlough and around the mountains and the weather was mainly good. Many thanks for everything. Best wishes to you and your family"

Extremly relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my husband spent a weekend(child free)in this beautiful apartment. We couldn't fault a thing the apartment was spotless, spacious and the most fabulous views over the bay and of the mournes .

You could sit for hours in the living area and each time you glanced out through the floor to ceiling windows the scenery had changed spectacular. We noticed the apartment also catered for families with board games and dvds for children.Plenty of amenities close by within walking distance. Thanks so much for a lovely relaxing break Janet we would love to visit again in the near future.

Perfect Place for a Festive Family Break!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fabulous festive break with our family in this beautiful apartment. The views of the Mournes are stunning with the scenes changing with sun rise, sun set and the tides. Every detail is well thought through for visitors eg. welcome gift, copious towels, etc. The facilities are excellent including a well laid out kitchen and two bathrooms. The apartment is a short walk from good restaurants and a pub - we enjoyed a delicious meal at The Buck's Head Inn. Janet, the owner is very helpful and quick to respond from when we made the 1st enquiry and through our stay as needed. We would thoroughly recommend this property if you want to explore this beautiful area. The photos do not do it justice - it is so much more beautiful in real life!

Yes, the views are certainly magnificent - even in December! The sun rising over the bay and then setting behind the mountains is a real treat. I look forward to welcoming you all back some day.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

I booked this property after finding it on the internet. I had read the reviews and hoped it might be as good as everyone said but was ready to be disappointed however the reverse was true. It was better!!! The apartment was beautifully clean - well appointed very comfortable. The view from the apartment in Dundrum was simply stunning. Janet was so good to deal with - very efficient and friendly.

Beautiful apartment and lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment.

We were blown away by the stunning location. We have visited the Mournes many times over the years but never spent time in Dundrum. We could not get enough of the uninterrupted views this apartment had over the Murlough Nature Reserve and towards Slieve Donard especially as the views constantly changed with tides and light. We saw some very special sunsets. We were able to watch the bird life just outside the windows when the tide was out.

The apartment itself was beautifully furnished with some lovely artwork. Everything was immaculate. The kitchen and the whole apartment were thoughtfully organised with everything you might need.

Holiday accommodation doesn't come much better than this.

Owner's Response: Praise indeed Dervile, thank you! I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. It's stunning isn't it when the sun sets behind the mountains at this time of year? As you say, the view is ever changing which is such a delight. Please come back soon to enjoy those views!

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

When I arrived in the apartment, the tide was in, and it felt like being on a ship, surrounded by water. Then the sun came out and flooded the living room and it felt very hard to go out at all to enjoy the unexpected and unseasonal sunshine!!!

It's an absolutely beautiful place and with the floor-to-ceiling windows and doors in the living room and bedroom brilliantly set up to take advantage of the ever-changing views. Once the tide goes out, herons and oyster-catchers start arriving, and one morning there was even a seal opposite on the sand bank that emerges as the water withdraws.

I did not have a car and did not miss it - Dundrum is tiny but there are 2 small supermarkets, a lovely cafe, and a number of restaurants literally round the corner from the apartment. Regular buses run to Newcastle (5 mins ) and Downpatrick (25 mins), and from Downpatrick to Strangford Lough. It is perhaps a 40 min walk to the beach via the nature reserve, and from there a lovely walk of an hour so to Newcastle, which has plenty of shops, cafes, ect. I once took a taxi back from there for just 5 pounds.

The area has much to offer, and the apartment is a perfect, calming, and excellently equipped base from which to enjoy it. The owners are a pleasure to deal with, quick to reply to any queries. A minor problem with the heating got sorted incredibly promptly. I definitely hope to be back and recommend the place without any reservations!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments Ruth. It's good to hear you were able to get around so easily without a car. I also love that walk along the beach into Newcastle enjoying the sea and mountain views along the way! Yes, Dundrum is a great village with everything on your doorstep and we're fortunate to have so many good restaurants within walking distance. I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back again some day.

This spacious, luxury 3 bedroom apartment offers stunning, uninterrupted mountain and bay views. This is a superb spot for bird-watching and seal-spotting. There is a beach right at your doorstep and you are a short walk to the nature reserve of Murlough Bay and the ruins of Dundrum castle which offers superb views and is great for picnics. The nearby village contains a supermarket, antique shops, beauty salons and some renowned restaurants. You're in Ireland so there are plenty of pubs within walking distance! A short drive away will take you to the town of Newcastle at the foot of the Mournes and Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc. Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months. You are a 30 minute drive to Strangford Lough, 40 minutes to Belfast ,1.5 hrs to the stunning Antrim Coast and Giants Causeway and 2 hours to Dublin.

Golf: Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned Golf Clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding. Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314
