Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Medina - Dar Zaman, Riad in Marrakech
Sun terrace, plunge pool, log fires, A/C/heat, wi-fi, delicious cuisine
Situated in the heart of the historical Marrakech medina just 10 minutes from the main square of Jemaa el Fna, Riad Dar Zaman is a traditional 18th century Moroccan home that has been refurbished to create a luxurious guest house. Retaining many of its original features, the riad is tastefully furnished with rich local fabrics, African artwork, soft Berber rugs, pots and beautiful handmade furniture.
Our Marrakech Riad is available by room and is also perfect for families and small groups renting the whole riad as a quality private retreat.
Boasting four exquisite double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning/heating, the queen-sized beds are heavenly; decadent lie-ins are mandatory! For friends travelling together, two of the rooms can be made up with twin beds. Both the salon and salle à manger have log fires, and a third salon is equipped with satellite TV. Wi-fi is available throughout the property.
The sun terrace is a wonderful retreat in the sun or shade, graced by swaying palms and perfumed by jasmine and orange blossom. Relax with a mint tea and relish in the magic of the call of the muezzin and the spectacular views across the Medina rooftops to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.
We offer a high level of discreet personal service, including a comprehensive welcome brief and 24/7 concierge for all your needs in Marrakech. Our aim is to enable our guests to experience the “not for tourist” Marrakech, the Marrakech we’ve come to know and love over the last 5 years.
Our team will happily share their excellent knowledge of Marrakech with you – where to buy things and the prices you should pay, where to get the best spa treatments, where to take your cooking class (at Dar Zaman!), and where you can eat a tagine seated metres from a stunning waterfall in the Atlas Mountains.
A sumptuous breakfast is included in the room rate – a wonderful choice of fresh bread, croissants, pastries and crepes with honey and jam, yoghurt and eggs, served with freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and coffee.
Our housekeeper, Karima, has been feted for her delicious Moroccan dishes. Dining at Dar Zaman is a feast for the senses. Karima can make many favourite local dishes, such as briouattes, pastilla, lots of delicous salads (Moroccan salads are mostly cooked vegetables delicately flavoured with spices), tagines - chicken with lemon, lamb with prunes or figs, couscous dishes, vegetarian options...whatever you choose, you'll be in for a true gastronomic delight!

Guestbook comments from the owner
This was my first trip to Marrakech (went with the family) and I stayed one night in Dar Zaman and another two nights in another Riad elsewhere in the Medina. Dar Zaman was absolutely amazing. The Riad is well laid out, the rooms are functional and clean and, above all, the people running the place are amazing. Hassan, the day-to-day manager is very friendly and accommodating and makes you feel at home. He is also very knowledgeable about Marrakech, giving us useful advice and told us what was worthwhile seeing and what wasn't during our fairly short trip. He also entertained us with funny stories! We met the owner as well (Peter) briefly and he was also very friendly and knowledgeable. All I can say is that this Riad cares about its clients and does everything it can to make sure their experience is wonderful (and they succeed!)
I grew up in the South East of England, lived overseas for 14 years and moved to Marrakech from New York City in 2005 to create what is now the wonderful Riad Dar Zaman.
Dar Zaman is located in an historical area of the Marrakech Medina which is named after Mohamed Ben Slimane, one of seven patron saints of Morocco. The neighbourhood is mostly residential, charming and authentic. I came to stay here in 2005 and fell in love with the calm simplicity of the neighbourhood.
Dar Zaman is a magical 18th century riad in the heart of the Marrakech Medina that casts a spell on all who enter! It's hard to leave, it's so peaceful and cosy, you'll wish you could stay longer!
