Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Chichester - The Lodge

The Lodge - 10% discount on all bookings in February 2014!

10% discount on all bookings in February 2014! The Lodge at Milestone Cottage is a beautifully presented holiday cottage set in the heart of the West Sussex countryside. The barn style build and interior has been crafted by the owner and makes for a truly individual style, mixing traditional carpentry with modern convenience.

The accommodation is all on one floor. There is an open plan living area which incorporates the kitchen, dining area and sitting area. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher, microwave and oven with gas hob. There is a cosy double bedroom with a fitted wardrobe and chest of drawers. The second bedroom has 2 single beds and also has a fitted wardrobe. There is a high quality shower room with a walk-in shower.

Outside, there is a courtyard style private garden to the rear of The Lodge. Guests also have access to the gardens of Milestone Cottage and there is ample parking. There is also a laundry room with washing machine, sink and clothes line. This is shared with the sister cottage to The Lodge, a beautiful and quirky studio style barn conversion with comfortably sleeps 2 guests, but does have a third bed on a mezzanine level.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My family stayed for one week at the lodge during our spring visit to the UK. The Lodge is a renovated stable which is part of a larger out-buildings complex situated to the back of the main farm cottage. The owner has done a very good job with the renovations and has plenty of nice finishing's. The Lodge overlooks a large grassed garden/small field where children can run about in safety (completely gated and walled), and to the back there is a wheat field. The owner's cottage is to the front of the property but doesn't look over the Lodge. There is another outbuilding next door which is let out to guests. However, this is separated in-between by another smaller empty outbuilding and you will not hear anything and you still have your privacy.

Inside, the lodge is fairly compact but still has a fully kitted kitchen (oven, microwave, dishwasher, full utensil set), small dining/living area with flat screen TV (sort of like a galley style) and a decent sized bathroom to the back. 2 bedrooms: master with double bed and large wardrobe and a second with 2 single long beds (perfect for kids). There is a private rear courtyard to the back. There is a wash room in a shed across the front carport area. The best point about the place was the large grassed area for my daughter to play in. The hosts went above the beyond to help entertain the little one with go-karts, tractors, balls, train set, lots of toys, even a large go-kart for the adults! Location was also a plus, close to a village with some great pubs (one just 2-3 mins walk away), large supermarket about 20mins drive away, very close to the coast and several large resorts (eg Brighton), plenty of rural walks and there is an adventure/farm place for kids just round the corner (Fishers Farm) which is very good. All in all, an excellent place to stay for a cheap rate, fantastic friendly guests (buy eggs off them!) and perfect for kids. If I was to mention any down-sides; the property lane exits off a narrow but fairly busy country road, not for walking! And the living/dining room is quite compact.

Milestone Cottage is situated in a wonderful location, easily accessible to the nearby town of Billingshurst (only 1 1/2 miles away) and Horsham which lies a few miles to the north of Billingshurst. They both have mainline stations to London (Victoria), and there are good road links to Gatwick airport. There is a lot to do in the area and if you have children interested in animals, then the well known attraction of Fisher's Farm, which is situated within walking distance, will undoubtedly appeal. The farm has a variety of different animals as well as lots of activities. Also within a very short walk is The Bat & Ball public house which serves good food all year round.

Other attractions include Arundel Castle, which lies in the beautiful town of Arundel, only about 11 miles away. Arundel boasts a selection of eclectic shops and restaurants, and attracts tourists from all over the world. The River Arun runs through it, and Arundel also has an annual festival, as well as a Wildfowl and Wetland Centre.. Horsham has a good shopping centre, and the Cathedral city of Chichester is about 40 minutes' drive. Along with the beautiful shopping centre and cathedral, it also has the Festival Theatre, at which many international stars perform year on year. The coast is less than an hours' drive and boasts some of the best beaches in Southern England. There is excellent sailing at several villages, including Bosham and Itchenor which lie just outside Chichester. Brighton is about 45 minutes' drive, where you can stroll around the famous "Lanes" or take a walk along the promenade and visit some of the excellent restaurants and shops.

Parham House and Gardens is a beautiful, tranquil place to visit and lies just outside Storrington. Both Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens and Nymans Gardens are within easy driving distance, lying to the south - east of Horsham, making for a wonderful day out. Goodwood House is a popular attraction and the horse racing there and at Fontwell are two of the highlights of the summer. The Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting have become traditional events, synonymous with the history of Goodwood itself.
