This apartment was a perfect base for our exploration of Venice. It really does have that lovely view in the listing. Each morning that I woke and saw the Frari tower out the window, I felt blessed.
It is literally two minutes from the apartment to nearest Vaporetto dock, an easy walk to all the sights, but far enough away from the busy tourist spots that it is peaceful. But, part of a charming neighbourhood.
The apartment was nicely appointed, looking much like the photos in the listing. We used the clothes washer, microwave, kettle and stove, and all worked perfectly. The kitchen is nicely equipped. And, Guilia had also provided dish soap, cleaning tools etc. The only thing we had to buy was laundry soap. The linens were fresh and new, and there were lots of extras should they be needed.
We were only two people, so we only used the king-sized bed in the main bedroom. The bed was very firm, in the European style, but good. The apartment is large enough for more people. The second bedroom has a single bed, and I believe there was another bed, though we never explored to find it. There is a very pleasant sitting room, with the view over the canals. There is a nice little desk area that we used for our computer. Very convenient.
There is a small grocery store within a 5 minute walk, and it is only a 15 minute walk to the Rialto market for fresh food. There is a very nice little restaurant in the Campo San Toma, just around the corner.
The apartment is on the first floor, European style, that is to say, up one flight of stairs. There is no lift, so be prepared to carry your suitcase up and down. It is worth the effort. When you come through the door from the street, the entry area looks a little rough; water damage, and repairs in progress. Don't worry; this is normal in Venice, and up the stairs everything is in beautiful shape. The building is obviously well maintained.
Giula, the owner, made the visit very special. She met us at the San Toma dock, and guided us to the apartment, where she gave us an orientation and generously answered questions. She had suggestions for places to eat, and had maps and guidebooks on hand. She also took the extra effort to provide me with some speciality items I had inquired about. And, when we had a question, she answered email very promptly. She made the visit perfect.
We loved our visit, and when we return to Venice we hope to stay here again.
