Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday villa in Saintes area - Le Villa at Le Courty

Luxury Villa Sleeps 2, Rural With Easy Access To Coast, Wheelchair Access.

Le Villa at Le Courty, is a luxury one-bedroom villa sleeping two with exclusive use of a large swimming pool. Adjacent to the pool is a raised, tropical-style dining pavilion with surrounding fish pond. The villa is set in the grounds of a former cognac farm in a tiny hamlet in the Charente Maritime countryside within easy driving distance of the Atlantic coast beaches. The villa is walking/cycling distance from a village bakery and other shops and restaurants, with more such facilities and large supermarkets available only a short drive away. Le Villa’s accommodation is wheelchair-friendly. For more information, see our website link located at the bottom of this advertisement.

The villa enjoys a stylish interior. The living space and kitchen are open-plan. The space is airy and comfortable with beamed, high ceilings, tiled floors and lighting to suit most moods. There are three sets of French windows which provide abundant light and delightful views. The kitchen has a marble-topped breakfast bar and work surface and looks out over the pool and terraces on one side and over a tiny 'secret' terrace overlooking the vines on the other. The kitchen has hand-built teak cupboards and a huge teak larder. It is equipped with oven, induction hob, extractor hood, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave. There is a washing machine in the utility room off the bathroom.

Wi-fi is provided. The villa is also equipped with a DVD player and a flat-screen TV through which both Freeview UK TV and French channels are available.

Through the intricately carved antique teak door and into the bedroom, a large teak four-poster bed with thick, sprung mattress (2m x 1.55m) awaits, as well as a teak wardrobe and dressing table. Bed linen is provided.

The en-suite bathroom takes you on a journey of Asian-spa delight with its rustic private outdoor Balinese-style shower – perfect for those balmy evenings and sunny mornings. A decorative antique temple door and wash basins carved from volcanic stone blend beautifully with the limestone walls and merge seamlessly with the more traditional luxury of the jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower. Bath towels are provided.

You step straight from your villa through French windows on to the charming lower patio area with barbecue and dining table and chairs. A few steps more take you up to the large (12m x 6m) swimming pool, spacious paved and grass lounging areas and the stunning teak and coconut-framed dining pavilion with surrounding goldfish pond. The pavilion is a magical place to sit and enjoy the views or to dine. It has both lighting and power points.

You have exclusive use of the pool area. It is walled on one side and open to the magnificent views of the vineyards and countryside beyond on another. Laze around the pool, or try the pool steps – the perfect place to sit with a book with the water lapping around your toes! Enjoy the cooler elevated position of the stunning pavilion, or even take a nap in the hammock under the shade of the huge yew tree. In the large coconut and teak dining pavilion, enjoy your aperitif of local Pineau des Charentes or a glass of chilled white or smooth red wine from nearby Bordeaux as you take in the delightful views of the sparkling blue pool and the Charentaise countryside. Beautifully lit at night, the pavilion is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two.

Located so close to the vineyards, you are treated to a birds-eye view of the vine-growing process and there are numerous opportunities in the immediate area for tasting the local brew.

There is a village only 1.5km from the property. Why not borrow one of our bicycles and take the ‘chemins blancs’ – small tracks – through the vineyards and sunflower fields to pick up your fresh baguettes and croissants from the bakery there. The village also boasts a well-stocked shop with butcher/charcuterie counter and fresh vegetables, as well as a Michelin-listed restaurant with take-away service, a popular cafe/bar and a takeaway pizza restaurant. Fresh fish and seafood are frequently on sale from a stall outside the village church. There is also a post-office, tabac (newsagent) and tennis courts.

Bath towels, pool towels and bed linen are provided. A complimentary welcome pack is provided, and meals can be provided on arrival by prior arrangement.

Wonderful luxury break

  • 5 out of 5
Le Courty was a wonderful luxury break for us this August. Villa and pool are just beautiful, superbly equipped with fine attention to detail. Although secluded on a rise overlooking stretches of vineyards, Le Courty is within walking distance of the local village. We took a stroll through the vineyards and fields of sunflowers to buy our baguettes and croissants there each morning. The village has a couple of restaurants, but we chose to barbecue and eat by the pool most evenings, enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. Absolutely recommended!

Fantastic villa in a very relaxing setting

  • 5 out of 5
A perfect place to escape for a holiday. The villa itself is absolutely stunning, well equipped with everything you could think of and some luxurious details. The private pool and garden area are beautifully maintained and set in secluded surroundings with gorgeous views. Dinner and wine in the pavilion was a great way to end the day, taking in the peaceful sunsets.

Mark and Annette were lovely hosts and had really helpful suggestions about local things to do. There are plenty of ways to spend days out nearby, but we found it hard to leave the deck chairs by the pool - though the oysters at Ile d'Oleron are definitely worth a try!

Overall this is a great place to spend a holiday, we felt completely looked after throughout and we would definitely recommend it!

Stunning villa in an equally stunning setting

  • 5 out of 5
The Villa at Le Courty is amazing! The facilities are first class with everything you need and more. The villa is totally private but the owners, Mark and Annette, are available with information and advice should you need it. There is plenty to see and do within the Charente Maritime area should you want to tear yourself away from the tranquility of the pool and views from the infinity garden at Le Courty. We recommend a visit to Ile d'OLeron where you can buy the very best oysters. La Rochelle is within easy driving distance and a visit to Cognac is a must.
The Villa at Le Courty is a truly luxurious, relaxing place to spend your holiday and we will definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Beautiful villa in a beautiful part of the world

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at Le Courty earlier this year and were blown away by both the villa and the beautiful setting. Surrounded by rolling fields and Cognac vines, with barely a car in sight, we really did feel like we had escaped from it all.

The villa itself was stunning and truly unique, but totally practical. It was clean and well-maintained throughout. Everything is exactly as described in the listing and we were particularly impressed by the incredibly high standard of finish, despite the rustic charm. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering and we did pop down to the bakery on the (kindly provided) bikes for morning croissants on a couple of occasions. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is absolutely huge! The outdoor shower is a special treat as an alternative start to the day!

There's plenty to do nearby, if you're feeling energetic and want to explore the area. We borrowed bikes and had a lovely ride through the countryside to Pons one day, but mostly we were happy to relax around the pool and the villa, reading and taking in the amazing scenery. The pool is solar heated, which isn't mentioned in the listing.

The owners were friendly but not intrusive and we felt well looked after throughout our stay. We would definitely recommend Le Courty to anybody looking for a bit of luxury and tranquility in the French countryside.

Beautiful views, peaceful, lovely villa.

  • 5 out of 5
Absolutely as described and more, everything you could want as a home from home. Not the usual basic items found in holiday rentals, the owners have thought of everything you could want and prepared to get anything you need.
Spotlessly clean including lovely towels a and bed linen.
The owners Mark and Annette carry out daily pool and garden maintenance very discretely but are there for a chat if you want.
We had never been to the region before and the owners were very helpful in providing information on places to go, also made us up a list if recommended restaurants.
Weather wasn't in our favour but we managed to visit most of the large towns and their traditional markets, Coastal towns, also smaller towns on the Gironde estuary, our favourite place was Ile de re.
Our mistake was not being aware of the French country way of life, closing during the day and very limited evening times kept by restaurants and bars. Also didn't prepare for total closing on Sundays and very limited Monday's. That was our fault and we were veer appreciative of the wonderful welcome pack put together by Annette.
Overall a wonderful relaxing holiday and enjoyed the beautiful pool when the weather allowed.
Would highly recommend to friends and family who want a chilled out relaxing time away from a busy work and home life.

Le Villa is set in the grounds of a former cognac farm in a tiny hamlet in the sunny Charente Maritime department in the region of Poitou-Charentes, the latter having been named in ‘Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2012’ as one of the world’s top 10 regions for 2012. The Charente Maritime’s sunny climate is known as one of the best in France, with its number of sunshine hours throughout the year second only to those of the Côte d’Azur.

Although far from the madding crowds, your location offers easy access to plenty of places of interest and things to do. The nearby Charente River offers abundant opportunities for canoeing, boat trips, fishing, or simply taking a walk along its banks.

The beautiful beaches of the Atlantic coast are easily accessible, with Meschers-sur-Gironde and adjacent beaches only a 45-minute drive away, and the larger coastal towns of Royan and La Rochelle only one hour away by car.

The stunning islands Ile de Re and Ile d’Oleron (and neighbouring Marennes – home of the world-famous oysters) are 1.5 hours’ drive away and provide wonderful seaside day trip destinations. Both islands have abundant attractions to explore by car or on bicycles. At Ile d’Oleron, choose your own oysters from the numerous farms there for your picnic on one of the beaches, perhaps accompanied by some pâté from one of the local stores and washed down with a cool rosé wine.

On the subject of wine, St. Emilion and Bordeaux and its Medoc wine-tasting route lie only just over one hour’s drive away and provide wonderfully entertaining trips.

Closer still are the riverside towns of Cognac and Pons, the former being the home of the most famous variety of brandy. Within 12km, the town of Cognac will charm you with its bustling square, attractive narrow medieval cobbled streets, elegant Renaissance facades, cafés and restaurants and, of course, those famous cognac houses of Hennessy, Courvoisier, Martell, Camus and so on which provide enjoyable and educational cognac tours. Cognac also boasts an 18-hole golf course at the Golf du Cognac club (scroll down for more information on golf courses). Six kilometers away, you will find the attractive medieval town of Pons, complete with 12th century castle keep, pilgrims‘ hospital, cafés and restaurants, which are all to be found in the pretty flower-filled streets.

Less than half an hour’s drive brings you to the historic spa town of Jonzac with its impressive chateau and state-of-the-art aquatic centre – Les Antilles – which uses the town’s naturally heated thermal waters, thus creating a warm, almost tropical environment. As well as swimming, Les Antilles also provides an impressive list of beauty/spa treatments. Half an hour’s drive brings you to the picturesque riverside city of Saintes with its Roman amphitheatre, abbey, cafés, restaurants and the cobbled streets of the St Pierre shopping district.

Just over one hour’s drive away, you can enjoy exploring the maze of tiny islands and picturesque canals of the Marais Poitevin or Venise Verte as it is also known. Activities include boating along the myriad canals in traditional barques which can be hired from the numerous piers, bird-watching in the marshlands, or simply enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Golf: there are four golf courses to choose from in the area: Cognac (12 miles), Saintes (15 miles), Royan (30 miles) and La Rochelle (60 miles).
