Tamarind House 1 is a large luxury 3 bedroom house sharing the private tropical gardens and pool with Tamarind House1. The house can be rented separately or together depending on the number of people in your party with Tamarind house 1 making one very large Villa as it's two detached large Villa's with large beautifully kept garden, garden terrace and pool. The Villas also have a drive way with a locked large entrance gate.

Tamarind House 1 has recently been refurbished to a high standard with new flooring and bathrooms. The house has new air-conditioning units in every room, ceiling fans in all rooms, 24 hour hot water, Satellite TV, washing machine and wireless high speed broadband in every room.

The lounge opens onto the garden and has a large patio, great for breakfast or pre-dinner drinks. There is also a built in BBQ and plenty of space on the drive for parking. The garden also has its own pool with ample sun loungers and chairs.

Tamarind house is a 5 minute walk from the tranquil setting of Vainguinim Beach which has safe swimming and water sports at one end or if you want to lounge by the pool this has been newly renovated which is illuminated with pool lighting at night.

The ‘live in’ housekeeping staff have their own separate accommodation and look after the house they clean the house, they also maintain the garden and pool and are at hand if you need anything. A taxi can be arranged to pick you up from the airport if required. Taxi’s are readily available can be called for short trips to the many restaurants or for shopping in Panaji, they can also be hired by the hour or day for longer sightseeing trips to Old Goa or Anjuna market, etc.

Vainguinim Beach is just 5 minutes walk from Tamarind House and is a peaceful, secluded cove with safe swimming and rock pools at low tide. Dona Paula, a former fishing village, is a 5 minute drive away and nowadays is a lively centre for water sports with Jet Skis, para-sailing, water-skiing and wind surfing. All along Dona Paula jetty you will find colourful stalls selling local goods and it is also a famous location for Indian films. By night you can tuck into delicious fresh fish and aromatic curries followed by a moonlight stroll on the jetty in the cool evening breeze.

Further afield is the capital Panaji with its many shops and restaurants, casino boats and evening riverboat trips. There are the historic churches of Old Goa, Spice Plantations and bird sanctuaries to explore, even trips in the backwaters with the chance of spotting crocodiles. Anjuna market is a must, just bursting with colour where you can seek out beautiful jewellery & handicrafts and haggle for a bargain before a cool drink and good food at one of the many beach shacks.

About Simon Sarin

We purchased this property as family home, we try and take a holiday there once a year as whole a family and also at separate times with our own families. Its a lovely house which is homely, safe and decorated and furnished to a high standard. I am half Indian and live in London so I wanted the facilities i have in my home here as i do there, which i have achieved but with the luxury of a beautiful garden and a pool.

Simon Sarin purchased this villa in 2000

Why Simon Sarin chose North Goa

We bought the house as our base in India, my father is Indian and my mother is English. My father wanted a second house in India where he was born and as we had visited Goa on holiday many times, my father and the family fell in love with it, so he decided to buy there. He wanted somewhere large enough to house the whole family which includes grand children when we all visited. Therefore he found this beautiful Villa very close to a quiet family beach. The house was big enough to for a large family as it has 6 bedrooms plus it has separate private quarters for the caretaker and his wife to live. Since buying it we have developed the garden and built a pool and we update the house on a regular basis so its to a high standard so its a home away from home hence why we have satellite TV ( to watch the football) and high speed broadband in all rooms.

What makes this villa unique

We fell in love with the house because it is luxurious but homely. Its large and each bedroom is large and has its own bathroom. Its in a very sought after area so is very safe and one major selling point its only a short walk to the beach. As well as being large and bright inside it has a beautiful terrace where we sit and chat at night with a glass of kingfisher. It also has beautifully kept gardens that have beautiful plants and flowers that lead down to a pool and a well in the corner. It also has a barbecue which we cook prawns and chicken on purchased from the local market. It also had large driveway and garage so we could keep a car out there. The house just ticked all the boxes on our list. Its a beautiful house in an idyllic setting with facilities close by and the beach, oh yeah and theres a swimming pool.

TAMARIND HOUSE - Location, location, location!

  • 5 out of 5
We appreciate the good things in life, this magical villa at the end of a cul-de-sac is one of them! As we arrived it was impressive. Our luggage was taken to our very efficient air-conditioned rooms. We were all amazed at the size of each room and the number too. We all 'got lost' doing our own thing for 2 weeks! We felt at home and chilled out fast. As the sun rose we walked the local residential area, cooling down on our return with a refreshing dip in the splendid pool. The gardens were a delight and well kept, putting our gardening efforts to shame. We took breakfast together on the enormous terrace shaded by the glorious banyan or at nearby Sandals. We occasionally dined there, delicious but not expensive! The house attendants looked after our every need, shopping for us and providing tasty lunches there. Rooms were meticulously clean along with the patio and pool. 5 minutes to the beach, we sunbathed on the sand or swam in the warm sea. After lunch we lounged out by the pool with no fighting over sun beds or one day of rain to moan about either! Afternoons, we headed back to the beach. After amazing sunsets, we showered in the well appointed bathrooms, dressed and at dusk all met up on the patio, taking a beer or a G&T with local cashews before deciding on where to dine. Perhaps a restaurant in Panjim or home, as the house attendants would cook or arrange a takeaway. Eating out is cheap and cosmopolitan. We’ll go back to every restaurant we visited and try more. We walked scrumptious meals off by strolling along the beach. Never a dull moment, we became spectators of entertainment laid on by the local resort with firework displays or an Indian wedding, something to behold! Nights were warm, we took dips in the pool before retiring to those massive comfortable beds. We read books, played music or watched TV. We recommend this villa, it has it all. If you appreciate fauna, birdlife and photography, you'll be in your element. If you like to mooch around or shop, we found Anjuna and Panjim markets and the Bombay Bazaar there interesting. Don't miss out on a bargain Arrows shirt or should you need a pair of cheap specs or contact lenses, Romanos Optics opposite the Municipal Garden will look after you. We found Qatar Airways flights with one stop in Doha, superb. Thank you Tamarind House, we look forward to going back when time permits, we're also sure you'll have a tremendous holiday there too - what a life, we loved it no end! Musk family - Chilterns

A town steeped in romantic legend

Dona Paula is a former fishing village in North Goa. The name comes from a tragic heroine of legend, which explains why the place is still nicknamed Lovers’ Paradise. Now a town, it’s kept its tranquil vibe along with a movie-star beach that’s a real pull for watersports fans. And conveniently, it’s only 7 kilometres from the state capital, Panaji, with its winding streets and wedding-cake like churches.

A movie setting

Dona Paula’s white-sand beaches, fringed with coconut palms, have played a starring role in many a Bollywood movie. That level of fame brings with it plenty of visitors, who also come for the top-class watersports. Food shacks are dotted along the sands, and a stretch of the beach is lined with shops selling drinks, snacks and seashell trinkets.

A watersports hotspot

As lovely as Dona Paula Beach is to lie on, it’s impossible to stay still with such an impressive line-up of watersports. It goes without saying that favourites like kayaking and jet-skiing feature heavily, but it’s the more unusual skibob and water-scooters that really grab your attention.

River cruises

Dona Paula is where the Zuari and Mandovi rivers meet the Arabian Sea. This makes it a prime spot for river-boat trips. Sail by night and you’ll catch a moonlit view of the Adil Shah Palace, where steps lead up to an ornate basalt gateway – the only remains of the home of former Portuguese governors. You’ll also see the 19th-century Mae de Deus Church of Saligao beautifully illuminated in orange and yellow.

Panjim

Dona Paula is only a 15 minute drive from the capital, which has an array of shops and Restaurants. The Restaurants consist of North Indian, traditional Goan, Portuguese, Italian almost all tastes are catered for. The city consists of department stools as quaint traditional markets. The river mandovi runs through it and you can take a leisurely boat cruise along it or at night the river is lit up with large boat casinos.
