Review title: Spacious privacy for large families
Date of stay: September 17 to 24, 2013
We were a party of 11 persons comprising six adults and five children, aged between 8 years and eight months. Our two sons and their families occupied four bedrooms each with en suite bathrooms and balconies with a magnificent sea view. We, the grandparents, occupied a fifth spacious bedroom also with en suite bathroom and large balcony.
Villa Delfini's separate levels offered each family its private space. The villa is elegant, functional and tastefully equipped with comfortable, good quality furnishings, and plenty of cupboard space.
The equally spacious living areas comprising a fully-equipped modern kitchen, salon and dining table, gave us a sense of togetherness without feeling that we were trampling over each other.
There was enough parking space for four cars behind the electronic gate. The private pool and outdoor shower was a treat and the children would have enjoyed even more the grassy lawn at the entrance to the villa if a few playground facilities were added.
Villa Delfini's gem is its grand airy patio, its huge dining table fit for feasts and barbecue grill protected from the gusty onshore winds at this time of the year.
The villa's manager, Lis Bentham, was a fireball of energy and a well of useful information. She supplied us with basic foodstuffs so that we had something to eat when we arrived at the villa late at night.
The villa was clean, well maintained and the service was faultless.
However, the slightest sound in the kitchen and living room, especially at night, reverberates throughout the whole villa, causing irate parents to complain that the noise of cluttering dishes awoke their babies. Maybe something can be done to dim the sounds.
We especially enjoyed the clean, sandy beach, sun chairs and shallow waters at Kalathas suited to young children, but like the other beaches we visited, it lacks proper showering and changing room facilities. Kalathas beach contrasted with the somewhat neglected and littered beach at Tersanas to which we did not return.
In Chania's Old Town we enjoyed a good meal at the Tamam restaurant and at the Apostolis fish restaurant on the harbor.
We also enjoyed the Thanasis Taverna at Blue Beach by the villa. The grilled sea bass and red snapper were fresh, the servings were generous, and the service was fast and friendly.
We definitely recommend Villa Delfini.
