Casolare is completely hidden in the trees and feels wonderfully private and secluded although little more than 1km from all day-to-day essentials including supermarket, butcher, baker, chemist and takeaway pizza, in the centre of Forcoli. The valley location is a real sun-trap with the surrounding trees giving a sense of seclusion and being close to nature.
Forcoli is a central, well-placed base for easy day-trips to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena and the coast, most of which can be reached by car in less than an hour. The main cities can also be reached by train from nearby Pontedera.
Neighbouring villages such as Palaia, Peccioli, Terricciola, Lajatico and San Miniato offer a wealth of restaurants, stunning countryside, places of historical interest and colourful festivals to explore. The whole area is relatively untouched by the usual flow of tourists experienced in the better-known Chianti area, so you can get a genuine feel for the local community.
Other Activities: Wine, olive oil and truffle production and tasting, Poggianti shirt outlet. Peccioli dinosaur park
Golf: The Castelfalfi golf course, only 20 minutes away by car, has only recently been re-opened after renovation works. It offers a 9-hole course, an 18-hole course, and a driving range in a stunning and challenging setting.
