TRULLO ALBEROBELLO IS WAITING FOR YOU

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday bungalow in Xewkija - Alberobello

Alberobello is a fully detached bungalow with private swimming pool and garden

A true haven offering guests an attractive outdoor swimming pool and walled garden. This is complemented with a spacious terrace and sun deck area with barbecue under the shade of a natural bamboo trellis ensuring guests enjoy this unique, fully detached trullo featuring new furniture and fittings. It is reached from the village of Xewkija by a small track and a private driveway.

There are two spacious double bedrooms, one with en suite. Both bedrooms have air condition/heating system (Mitsui and LG) on pay per use basis; moreover, there is an extra single bed in each bedroom, plus the main bathroom. It can accommodate up to six (6) persons comfortably. The fabulous open plan sitting/dining space gives the trullo an unusually intimate feel, that only deepens when it is looked at from inside as it shape is constantly changing.

The fully equipped oak kitchen comes with a Smeg cooker (hob & oven), Smeg refrigerator, LG washing machine (8 kilos), cable TV, free WiFi + Lavazza espresso/capuccino machine. There are four sun loungers to relax and unwind by the superb pool.

Mightily Impressive: The Rotunda church has the second highest dome, internally, in Europe (after St Peter's in Rome), is 6 m taller than St Paul's in London and can accommodate nearly three times the village's population. The villagers wanted such a church and it was constructed and paid for entirely by local volunteer labour and donations.

The fanatical dedication and skill of the stone masons is remarkable. Seen from within, the 16 clear -glass windows of the dome and 16 smaller windows in the lantern illuminate the milky limestone, invoking more space than actually exists. If you stand at a distance, the fields opposite Ta' Lambert at sunset, the dome presents a striking silhouette as the orange light powers through it.

The interior is restrained and simple in its execution. Part of the rich interior of the old church has been dismantled like Lego and rebuilt stone by stone in what is called the Musuem of Sculpture to the left of the Carrara marble main altar.

Unique Trullo and the power of design: The harmony and intriguing energy of this architectural trullo lends its power of design with the massive stone jutting out is a masterpiece and testament to the skill of the local stone masons. The endlessly shifting surfaces convey the infinite variety of the hand-crafted ethos of an earlier era, the cultivation of a sense that something has been shaped by a human hand, providing angled views of the superb pool ( 8 x 7m) to celebrate the joy that can come out of creative freedom, and by extension, to reassert the individual's place within a larger dimension.

Good bye and thank you for giving us such a wonderful introduction to Gozo. We've had a fantastic time here and we will certainly come back again. We never imagined how much there is to discover on this little rock of an island!

Until we see you next time we wish you good and happy times.

Highly recommended

This detached Villa suited us perfectly. We wanted a quiet location away from tourists but we also wanted to avoid the need to rent a car. Trullo Alberobello is a short walk to several local shops. It was a real bonus that it is also close to a great bakery for wonderful bread, and to a pizza restaurant - 3.50 Euros for just about the best mushroom pizza I've tasted outside Naples.

The Trullo is also close to bus stops for Victoria (journey time under 10 minutes) and Mgarr. We decided not to rent a car but there is ample parking if needed. It was easy to get around, using the bus, even in the evenings when we wanted to dine out. Sammys in Mgarr was favourite for great fish, and it is a short stroll around the harbour from the bus stop.

The Villa itself is well equipped, clean and tidy (thank you Rosie) and the owner couldn't have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The pool was the star attraction, of course!

If you want to stay in a tourist resort, this probably is not the Villa for you, but if you want to live in a sizeable village with good amenities and friendly people, Trullo Alberobello is highly recommended.

A place where great memories are made,

  • 5 out of 5
The pictures don't do this place justice, We spent 2 weeks in this incredible accommodation and had a wonderful time, The airport transfer was excellent and we also hired a car from Franky which was priced competitively, Like the island of Gozo, we found our host welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, The trullo was spotless with the exception of the gas cooker which we were reliably informed was being sorted out. Strawberry supermarket was just down the road, reasonable prices and very helpful proprietor, Excellent Pizza bought at the bar in Soil St for just 3.5 euros. We ate out several times as the prices were quite reasonable, our favourite restaurants were in Xlendi Bay: Stone Crab and Karolina's were excellent although we would like to have visited them all. We would recommend doing the Citysightseeing bus tour as that informed us what there was to see and do, plus giving the low-down on the island. Best beach was Ramla although Marsalforn would suit younger visitors, we preferred the quieter places. Comino's Blue Lagoon was amazing but by 12 o'clock you couldn't move for tourists - go early! All in all we would thoroughly recommend this property and the island of Gozo,

Convenient location, quiet area

  • 5 out of 5
We spent two lovely weeks in this incredible "Trullo", which, the owner informed me, is constructed of local Gozitan limestone. I have to admit, it's very well equipped with a modern kitchen and an outside barbecue area near the wonderful swimming pool. When not sightseeing the great Gozitan countryside, my family and I spent most of the time on the spacious sundeck soaking up the sun and listening to the cicadas in a nearby tree. We found the island of Gozo extremely enjoyable and tourist friendly, and we look forward to visiting again, hopefully this summer!

The village of Xewkija (Scheukiia) is famous for its church simply known as 'the Rotunda', dedicated to St John the Baptist. Not only does it dominate the village, it dominates the entire island. The village has an eccentrically suburban air for an agricultural community.Men on ancient lilac-coloured Vespas roar noisily through the narrow twisting medieval streets wearing soup-bowl helmets and shot guns slung across their backs; a handful of people too old to work the fields sit beside their bamboo-slatted front doors awaiting the cool of the day, while tourists gawp at their cathedral-sized church.

The single most impressive feature is the dome, a 45,000-ton structure set on eight columns. A short walk from the trullo leads down the valley of Mgarr ix-Xini.The road is not for the drunk or faint-hearted. The swimming in the small fjord is clean and suitable for children. Further out the waters are dark, deep and clear against the sheer cliff face, offering good diving and snorkelling.
