A great cottage in beautiful English countryside

  • 5 out of 5
We live in France and came over for a holiday with our 2 children aged 10 and 11. The cottage is a beautifully converted barn, with lots of room, well equipped and very comfortable. There is even a covered passageway out of the back door, perfect for drying washing in all weathers. The children loved the separate spiral staircase to their own room with ensuite bathroom. There's lots of space to play indoors and out - trampoline, football, table tennis - but what they were most excited about was the heated outdoor pool ! We enjoyed the peaceful setting, the romantic garden, the sheep in the field. A great place to relax within easy reach of Dorchester, Weymouth and the Jurassic coast.
A place we truly recommend and hope to come back to!

Georgeous and romantic Setting

  • 5 out of 5
Dear Richard,

as it was our first stay in England we didn`t know what to expect. Bad Food, heavy rainfalls??? None of this was true, due to our fantastic and newly restored barn we enjoyed our stay very much. The house was so well equiped, that really nothing was missing. Even a DVD Player with films for children and adults was there. Everything was clean and new, so we really would have liked to stay there the whole day if the beautifull landscape around wouldn`t have pushed us to do or see something. The Setting with the romantic garden, the pool and the sheep around was just an idyllic place to relax. You feel that the owners are doing everything by heart and that in every plant there is an idea of how it will ammeliorate the garden in the future. Even our children enjoyed the quietness as there was so much space to play around and the dog made also their stay unforgettable. Thanks to Richard, we found nice Pubs around and we really enjoyed english Food :-) Last but not least we had ten days full of sunshine and we already felt so much at home in our house that it was hard to leave. But we will be back....

Lovely spot for a break

  • 5 out of 5
We came here for a week to get away from it all and couldn't have hoped for a better place. Its in a beautiful and quiet location. The property itself has everything we needed to be self sustained for a week. All facilities were tip top. The local pub although not open as often as we'd like was very nice. The local shops are also a bit sparse but there is a Tesco not too far away. A good location to get out to the coast and get some walking and exploring in. We'd definately reccommend.

courage cottage - lovely

  • 5 out of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Courage Cottage. We took our 2 children (aged 7mth and 2 & 1/2 yrs). The kitchen was well equipped. the whole cottage was light and airy. There is a covered passageway out of the back door and this was perfect for drying washing in all weathers. The Main bedroom had plenty of room for a travel cot. Our toddler loved the spiral staircase to the second bedroom (although we did block the exit at her bedtime) and there was plenty of room for running around outside. The cottage was only 5 minutes from Dorchester with a very easy to find Tesco supermarket. Maiden Castle is worth a visit and is walkable from the cottage (our toddler walked all the way including "up the mountain" as she called it). There was plenty to do in the area to fill our week long holiday.

Pretty and Peaceful

  • 5 out of 5
Although in the middle of nowhere in a beautiful valley, Ashton Farm is set a few minutes from the main road so is easy to find. The cottage itself is lovely. Clean, pretty, functional and full of character and the setting is stunning. Lovely to have added special touches such as tea, coffee and dishwasher tablets. The pool is very nice for a swim, we used it daily with our 1 year old and were blessed with good English sun. Our dogs enjoyed the lovely walk round the fields and surrounding area which is quiet and scenic. Our toddler loved exploring the walled garden and barns and most of all seeing the many birds fly over. A great base for visiting all the surrounding area. We would recommend the park and ride on the way to Weymouth. You can park all day for a few pounds and the bus runs every 15 minutes to the beach and town which is traditional and lovely. We would also recommend Northe Fort and Monkey world, affordable enjoyable days out. The only criticism we can give our stay at Courage Cottage would be the garden area. Although vast and quiet there is not fence to make a clear garden for the property. We found this would have been useful with a toddler and our dogs ( the farm dogs do come down to the property and there is a trampoline and covered hole in the lawned area to the back) however I suspect this may be something that may be planned for the future. On the whole our stay was lovely. Although in the grounds of the farm, we didn't get overlooked or disturbed, yet felt the owners were always within reach had we any problems. If we could guarantee another nice summer we would happily come back and have told all our friends and family about this hidden gem. Pictured do not do it justice! Thank you for a lovely, relaxing week!

Beautiful barn conversion in relaxed rural idyll.

  • 4 out of 5
We stayed with our 3 children in the newly renovated barn in a warm week in July. The barn was clean and spacious. A large kitchen and living room. The bedrooms are up separate staircases: the kids loved having their own! Their favourite feature was the wonderful round window in their bedroom. I loved the peaceful setting and we all enjoyed the beautiful gardens and of course, the warm pool.
It is a short walk to the top of Maiden Castle and took us about 45 minutes to walk into Dorchester.
The owners were wonderfully welcoming and always very kind and thoughtful. We expect to make many return visits!

This quiet valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is located between Dorchester and Weymouth and therefore within easy reach of shops, restaurants museums and the numerous seaside activities available in and around Weymouth. The Abbotsbury Swannery and gardens are within easy reach as are many footpaths leading to the coast as well as the many remote beaches reached situated along the famous Jurassic Coastline which is a World Heritage Site. The properties are in the old farmyard and reached down a private road and therefore well away from traffic.
