Aloha and welcome to Hale 'Ono Kane Kai', our spacious, 3 bedroom, two & 1/2 bath, oceanfront home in Kekaha. This home was custom constructed and has three separate lanais, totaling 1100 square feet of 'OUTSIDE' living area, and an additional 1700 sq ft inside.
West Kauai is home to the longest, continuous stretch of white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii. (over 15 miles long). Additionally, Kekaha is the closest town on the island to the world famous 'Polihale' Beach, which is arguably the most incredible beach in all of Hawaii. Polihale Beach has miles and Miles of pristine powder sand, 100 ft tall sand dunes, crystal blue water and a gorgeous backdrop with views of the 3000 ft cliffs of the Napali Coastline.
Salt Pond Beach is yet another choice within a few minutes of Kekaha for those days when you want extremely calm waters to swim in, or perhaps do a little snorkeling. Salt Pond beach is in a protected cove, so it's almost always calm enough for taking the 'little ones' in the water too.
Activities in West Kauai include surfing, sunbathing, swimming, body surfing, boogie boarding, wind surfing, whale watching and endless hiking opportunities. In the winter months, you can watch whales right from the lanai of the house, and year round you can enjoy the magnificent westward views over the ocean and the island of Nihau, which is the closest island out in front of you, approximately 18 miles off shore.
After a day at one of our incredible beaches, you can rinse off in the private, outdoor shower. At night, let the sounds of the ocean’s waves rock you to sleep.
Kekaha is located on the 'Sunny' west side of Kauai and is the western most town in the US. With an average annual rainfall of less that 20 inches, you can almost be guaranteed a warm, sunny vacation, regardless of the time of year! This is like traveling back in time to the way Hawaii used to be. No crowded beaches, no tourist traps, no hotel resorts, just sun, surf and people who remember what the 'Spirit of Aloha' really means.
Less than a block away is the road that leads to the famous 'Waimea Canyon' and the 'Kalalau Lookout'. There are two major grocery stores three miles away and you are minutes from the harbor where you can catch a sunset cruise along the NaPali coast.
The living area of this house is actually the second floor making the unobstructed ocean views from every window even more spectacular. The master bedroom suite has a beautiful stone and glass block shower. Ladies, you will never have to worry about your guy leaving the toilet seat up in this bathroom because he will have his very own, custom, built in urinal! The other two bedrooms and second full bath are extremely private, separated from the main house by a large lanai. All 3 bedrooms are air conditioned and there are ceiling fans throughout the house.
To satisfy your entertainment needs and keep you 'connected' during your stay, you will find this house well stocked with electronic 'toys'. There is FREE broadband, Wireless Internet access, Stereo CD player, two televisions, DVD player, and VCR.

We spent 10 days with another couple at this property. It was wonderful. From the moment that we stepped in the door we felt like home. The lanai is where we spent most of our time, morning coffee, afternoon cocktails and watching the fabulous sunsets. The second and third bedrooms are separate from the main part of the home and this was a great feature. It gave each couple lots of privacy. The beach was spectacular. Love the fact that it is not busy, beautiful pristine sand and great for those long walks. We did a helicopter ride around the island, rode bikes 12 miles down through the canyon (both of these activities got the heart rate up!!) did a sunset dinner cruise, a luau, golf and spent lots of time playing in the waves at the various beaches. Chad was great to deal with and make the arrangements very simple and convenient.
We are already looking at plans to return!
This property has an absolutely gorgeous view and the home is lovely. For us there were two huge drawbacks however. The noise from the highway right in front of the house made the lanai unpleasant despite the great view. We had to practically shout at each other during the beautiful sunsets and dinners. The only table is on the lanai so if you have a group of six like we did there is no comfortable option for eating inside. Even at 5 am there was a car every 60 seconds and nonstop traffic noise all day and evening.
Also the beach shown in front of the house did not exist. There is a 15 foot high rock seawall with no sand present even at low tide. According to the neighbors the beach in front of the house hasn't existed for quite a while. There is access to a sandy beach about a block south and a wonderful bobbing and boogie boarding beach about a mile north. We enjoyed both of these often. There are also public tennis courts about a block away and easy access to great hiking in Weimea Canyon. The beach at the end of the road, Poli Hale, was also fantastic and a short drive. Short drive too to snorkeling and swimming at Salt Pond State Park and Poipu. Yoga on the beach in Weimea and Friday night artwalk in Hanapepe also highly recommended. If traffic noise doesn't bother you it is a beautiful home... loved the sun... 82-84 degrees and sun 13 out of 14 days.
We enoyed our Kauai experience very much. From start to finish Chad was very very easy to get ahold of via email or phone to answer any of my questions. And trust me, this was my first VRBO experience and I had a lot of questions. Chad provided us with very detailed instructions from the Airport to the beach front property with lots of details, even photos, so we'd know everything about gaining access to start our relaxing trip.
The house was very clean, had every cooking utensil you could imagine and was comfortable. the layout was perfect for two couples, we had the main bedroom with master bath and our friends had the other two bedrooms and thier full bathroom. It was convienant for them as the kitchen and everything were just feet away with a 10 pace walk to main house. We didn't make it back to Costco by the Airport as we wanted to see exactly what was available in the pantry of the house. There were plenty of condiments, salad dressings seasonings for our cooking needs, keep in mind this may or may not change by the time you arrive. With that said, we stocked up on food and snacks at the local supermarket where the prices were pretty high, but it's Hawaii and we expected that. Kalapani Joes, Grinds and if lucky enough to take advantage of the Club at the Air Base just north were our dining out choices, all had their own flair and were awesome.
We wore out the lanai! There was no hammock but the porch swing and comfortable chairs were perfect. The outside dinner table was wonderful for chillin' and a grillin'. I was the first one up everyday to start the coffee and there wasn't a morning I didn't marvel at the sun coming up through the neighbors palm trees. In the evenings, it was an unobstructed view of sunsets over the water.
There seems to be a split of reviews referencing whether the traffic on the road was loud or not. There were a couple times in the evening where we shut the glass doors toward the lanai/road/water when we were trying to hear the TV, other than that the road noise wasn't a bad.
The swimming beach is 3/4 mile to the north, instead of driving, we packed up the beach chairs(with big storage areas, strapped them to our backs, loaded our small cooler and hoofed it up the wide shoulder road to the wonderful white sand beach. All in all, no complaints, it was a very relaxing trip.
We just got home after a wonderful week in Kauai, staying at this property! The pictures are accurate (if not understated) and the home was incredibly comfortable for the 6 of us.
Yes, there is a road directly in front of the property but the road noise did NOT detract from our enjoyment of the awesome lanai or hinder the amazing views, which were breathtaking.
If there was anything that could be done to upgrade the home, it would be to add a King bed to the master suite in the main house. The queen bed was comfortable enough but the room is very large and could easily accommodate a king bed. The master bath shower was FANTASTIC!!
All in all, 6 thumbs up from our crew and we'd definitely stay here again!!
We absolutely loved everything about this house and the area it's in. We stayed here for a week with my in-laws, there was a total of 6 of us. There was plenty of room. We used the kitchen quite a bit, there are plenty of utensils and cook ware. Our favorite part of the house was the Lanai, we spent most early mornings and evenings on it. Everywhere you look there are beautiful views. We loved this side of the island because it is very quiet and un-touristy.The pictures on this site do not do the house and it's surroundings justice. It is so much better once your there in person. We walked around town a couple of times, ate at Auntie B's cafe, very good Loco Moco!! There is also 1 gift shop in town if you need to buy souvenirs.One of our favorite places we ate at is "Wranglers" over in Waimea(a little pricey), but very good steak and Mai Tai's. We did a boat tour of the Napali coast and we used Liko Kauai cruises. We HIGHLY recommend them, first of all the harbor where you meet them at is only 5 minutes from the house, the guys who run this boat are very personable, and very knowledgeable of the area. They offer a light sandwich lunch which is very good. We went out at the end of April and were still able to catch some whales playing, we also saw dolphins, and of course the view of the Napali coast is mesmerizing. We also went to Smiths Fern Grotto and did the river boat cruise, this was alot of fun, plus we attended there Luau, very good food and show. It was our first Luau to attend so we have nothing to compare it to, but we were very pleased with it. We also drove out to Polihale State Park beach, you have to go down a 5 mile bumpy road to get there, but it is more than worth it. This was our favorite beach on the island. It is amazingly beautiful and very secluded. We would highly recommend this house rental to family and friends and will hopefully be back ourselves one day. Chad was very helpful in answering our questions and was very accomodating with certain needs that we had.
The house is great and has everything you would ever need. The views and sunsets from the lanai are the best! Being able to look at the ocean every morning and evening was great. There is alot to see and do in Kauai from helicopter rides ( highly recommend), zip lines to snorkeling. Or you can just sit on the lanai relax and enjoy the views. I can't wait to come back again. Will recommend this place to friends and family who are planning a trip to Kauai. Thanks again!
