Unusual location but convenient

  • 3 of 5

We had a shocker finding the place. I had made contact with the owners earlier in the day, let them know that we were running late, and wouldn't arrive until after 8. We had the most confusing set of directions to follow.. admittedly it was late, and we were stressed from dealing with strange roads and rush hour traffic, but we must have driven by the location several times without seeing it. It's at the end of a service lane, off the main road, and you have to drive past a wrecker's yard to get there - past overgrown car bodies and buses. Very atmospheric at twilight! When we finally ventured far enough to find the house, it was dark, and even more like a mystery novel gone wrong when we had to follow more instructions to find the wood shed, enter a combination without a light, to recover the key. Leaving the porch light on would have been just that little bit more welcoming. The house itself is fine, lots of quirky character, like you would expect from an old English farmhouse. I originally chose it because the location was halfway between all the coastal places we wanted to visit in Cornwall, and in that it served us well. We stayed in a rainy week in summer, and felt the cold. We're not familiar with the heating systems used here, and could not work out how to program it to stay on more than 15 minutes. It took us a few days to realise the house was actually semi-detached from the owners' residence. Lots of reviews mentioned how friendly the owners were - and my dealings via email were always pleasant - but we saw hide nor hair of them while we were there. They may have been respecting our privacy - but I don't think it hurts to just check in personally and say, hi, how are things going, any questions.. Perhaps our fault in being too shy to ask, but this was our first experience of staying in a HomeAway residence, and we were learning the ropes. Don't get me wrong - nothing here detracted from our holiday experience - we just made the most of it, and have had a few good laughs since about our Cornish side trip. Beautiful region to visit, whatever the weather.

speziell

  • 4 of 5

Sehr schöne Ferienwoche in Liskeard

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Lisa and Jason for your help!

Excellent family cottage for exploring Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

Me, my wife and 2 daughters stayed for a week in the Cornish Cottage and all had an excellent holiday. The location is perfect for exploring this part of Cornwall and the owners made it even easier by giving a handy list of things to do and places to discover in all weather so loads of things to do inland and only about 20 minutes from some great beaches.

The cottage and rooms were all clean on arrival and a very homely feel to the place. Kitchen had all facilities you need. Would not hesitate in recommending this for families or groups of 6 or so.

Pretty, well appointed cottage in Cornwall

  • 4 of 5

The Cornish Cottage is very pretty and well appointed. The kitchen is well equipped, there is a comfortable sitting room, and 3 very comfortable good sized bedrooms. The garden is lovely with outdoor seating to enjoy the evening sun. Wi fi is available. Slight criticisms are that the main bathroom is only accessible through the 3rd bedroom. Not an issue for us, but may be for some. There is another loo downstairs. Also there is not much hanging space for clothes. Again, not a problem for us, but worth noting.

The owner, who lives next door, is extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating, and always happy to offer ideas of where to go, what to do and see, and where to eat. I recommend the zip wire at adventure quarry, and the Seafood Kitchen at Hannafore, near Looe.

The location of the cottage is perfect for exploring the whole of east Cornwall, both north and south coast. We had a lovely few days there..
