Biarritz and Cote Basque: Biarritz offers an amazingly diverse range of activities and experiences, the majority within walking distance. Biarritz perfectly blends the laid-back attitude of beach life and surfers with the more sophisticated surroundings of the casino and the Hotel du Palais. The airport is only 10 minutes by car and 20 minutes by bus from the centre of town, and this might be the longest journey you need to make!
Cote Basque is the area situated above the world-famous surfing beach and it is a lively, vibrant area within 5 minutes walking distance from the centre of town. On the way to town you will find the Les Halles, which is the main food market in town, and a number of great tapas bars that surround it. There is a huge selection of great restaurants to suit all budgets and we will recommend some of our favourites to you in our welcome pack.
Biarritz Beaches and surfing: There are three beaches in Biarritz itself:
Grand Plage – the largest beach with a promenade stretching from the Hotel du Palais to the Dodin Cafe, a fantastic place to get a coffee and people watch. The famous casino is situated on this beach as are a couple of nightclubs. The surf on this beach is often good even when other more popular spots are not “on” as it’s partially protected by the wind.
Vieux Port – this beach is perfect for swimming no matter how big the surf is as no waves break on the beach. There are a couple of restaurants and bars that look down onto the beach.
Cote Basques – this is the most famous surfing beach in Biarritz itself there is surf year round there is always something to ride and there is always someone to ride it, regardless of the season.
We really enjoyed our stay in this flat. It is two blocks from the beach, in a quiet neighbourhood but just a couple of minutes' walk from the market, shops and restaurants.
This is a light, airy space. It has two comfortable bedrooms, a good-sized sitting room, a well-equipped kitchen and a pleasant bathroom. The location is excellent as it is quiet but very near both the beach and the action. The only thing that is missing is a washing machine (although there is a dishwasher).
We loved Biarritz and would recommend the flat for four people.
Biarritz has fantastic beaches and the buzz in the town is lively and cosmopolitan. Les Halles, the market, is probably the best market I have been to, full of wonderful and tempting produce. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area too, such as going up the little train at La Rhune for the magnificent views and visiting Bayonne and San Sebastián. It's well worth a visit.
The apartment is clean, tidy and spacious, and it's location to both the beach and the shops is fantastic. I can recommend it to anyone that wants to have a holiday in Biarritz
This was our first visit to Biarritz and chose this apartment based on location and price. The booking process was easy and received emails and info from the owner every step of the way.
Despite arriving at the apartment at 10PM someone was there to meet us and hand over the keys.
The apartment is light and airy with high ceilings. Its well equipped and the wifi coped perfectly with 2 iPad obsessed kids !! Its very quiet but its literally a 2 minute walk to the sea front and a couple more into Rue Gambetta which is the main street for shopping ( and supermarket ), bars and restaurants.
The beach nearest the apartment is less crowded ( a mix of families and surfers ) than La Grand Plage and do make use of the tide guide as when the sea comes in it does swallow up the entire beach!
I would recommend this apartment to family and friends , its a great base for exploring Biarritz and I would certainly stay here again
We - that´s 5 teenagers and me, 48, mother of three of them - had a wonderful time at Biarritz. This is to a large degree, because the flat was great!! Three rooms and a kitchen you can sit in meant, that we could all withdraw, when we wanted too. It´s only 5 mins to walk to the surf beach. The kitchen was equipped very well, the knifes were sharp and there were left over´s from the people before (olive oil, tea, pasta, spices) which were helpful for us to start; we self-catered most of the time. Two toilets, a nice big shower and everything was clean. One window (in the smallest room and the toilet door) where a little bit of a challenge to open at times, but that has been reported and is probably fixed by now. Key handing over was uncomplicated, too. So I can recommend a stay there in every way. Thank you!
Lovely clean, attractive and light apartment well decorated. Very convenient access to the beach to the town. Quiet, everything you need is provided. Owners easy to contact, full instructions on everything. We hope to return! It was a great place to stay.
I absolutely loved staying here! The apartment was really comfortable and clean and in a great location. About 30 seconds walk to the beach and not more than 5 mins to the centre of town so it was ideal for swimming, surfing, shopping, eating and drinking. I would definitely recommend staying here for short or longer stays not least because of the AMAZING shower!
The apartment is situated in Cote Basque, Biarritz.
This is a 10 minute car journey/20 minute bus journey from the airport or 10 minutes from Biarritz train station. The apartment is situated 5 minutes walk from the world famous Cote Basque surfing beach and less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Biarritz. This is a perfect location for enjoying all the experiences within Biarritz – without needing a car.
If you feel like exploring further afield a short taxi ride or car journey will take you to the stunning long beaches of Anglet or the historical town and river of Bayonne. Head south towards Spain and explore the picturesque village of Guethary and the fantastic towns of St Jean de Luz and San Sebastian. Heading north from Biarritz, within 2 hours drive you can experience the wonderful vineyards surrounding Bordeaux, the city itself, the Dune de Pyla and the Basin d'Arcachon.
Golf: There are 8 great golf courses in Biarritz. The closest is only 30 minutes walk from the apartment. 4 courses in Biarritz are ranked in Europe's TOP 100.
The best 8 are:
Golf de Biarritz (18 holes, par 69), it's called Le Phare because it located just inland from the town’s main lighthouse.
Golf de Seignosse (18 holes, par 72), 40 min from Biarritz the tree lined fairways demand straight hitting for the whole eighteen holes.
Golf de Moliets (18-par 70 and 9 holes-par 31), 50 mins drive from Biarritz and designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr, this is an exceptional 27 hole course.
Golf d'Arcangues (18 holes, par 71), just south of Biarritz with many acres of Oak trees and meadows that wind around the Château d’Arcangues. This course has amazing views!
Golf du Makila (18 holes, par 72), short drive from Biarritz. Views of the stunning Pyrenees and the Basque countryside, the course is carved through the ancient Oak trees.
Golf d'Hossegor (18 holes, par 72), completed in 1930, it is similar to a lot of inland courses to be found around the West of London and out into Surrey, like Wentworth and Sunningdale.
Golf de Chiberta (18-par 70 and 9 holes-par 29), is about ten minutes from the centre of Biarritz. Designed by the legendary Tom Simpson
Golf de Chantaco (18 holes, par 70), sits underneath the Pyrenees mountains, and is beautiful.
