Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Franschhoek - Bedside Manor

A self-catering cottage close to the town centre

Bedside Manor is a charming cottage with special ambience and interior styling that is situated in a scenic part of the beautiful Franschhoek village and within walking distance of the town’s renowned restaurants, shops and art galleries. Decorated in a French Provençal style, Bedside Manor offers two bedrooms, a modern bathroom, well equipped kitchen, lounge, dining/entertaining area and swimming pool. The lounge leads to the outside area with covered veranda and pool. This is the perfect spot to relax on sun-loungers or sit under the covered veranda next to the pool and treasure a delightful wine from the area. Barbecue facilities are provided and there is off-street parking for 2 cars (behind electronic gate). The kitchen is fully equipped and the lounge has a big screen TV with full digital satellite services. The house inside is a non-smoking zone and no pets are allowed. Top quality bed linen together with bathroom and swimming towels are provided.

Town and Area: The Franschhoek valley, originally called Olifantshoek ('Elephants' corner'), was first settled in 1688 by 176 French Hugenot refugees (the name was later changed to le Coin Français - 'the French Corner' and then Franschhoek - Afrikaans for 'French Corner'). Many of the French settlers named their new farms after the areas in France from which they came (e.g. La Motte, La Cotte, Cabrière, Provence, Chamonix and Dieu Donné). Today these farms are renowned wimeries. Once a sleepy country retreat, the village began experiencing a boom since the 1990s. The ideal summer weather, snowy peaks in winter and proximity to Cape Town have turned Franschhoek into one of South Africa's most sought after tourist destinations. In the village you will find wonderful crafts, art and antique shops and galleries. The main street is lined with coffee shops and restaurants. Only 45 minutes from Cape Town, Franschhoek is the ideal base to explore the entire Cape wine lands.

Attraction Highlights: Franschhoek is one of the most beautiful wine valleys in the world.

It is considered to be the food capital of South Africa (the highest concentration of award-winning restaurants in South Africa).

It is part of the best wine region (Cape wine lands) in South Africa (with a French heritage of more than 300 years and more than 40 extraordinary wine cellars).

Franschhoek is a town for all budgets with many outdoor activities to enjoy (horse-riding, cycling, hiking, golf, para-gliding and trout fishing to name a few)

If you're in the vicinity in July, try to visit Franschhoek over the weekend closest to Bastille Day (14th July) when the village celebrates its French heritage with a wine and gourmet fair and lots, lots more

A little taste of Heaven in Franschhoek

  • 5 of 5

A weekend away in Franschhoek calls for a quiet, contemplative space where one can sit back and page through glorious books on food, decor and wine; cook up a storm if one feels so inclined; or wander a couple of hundred metres to any one of the French-style bistros, and antique and book shops lining the historic town's main drag. This little taste of Heaven offers all of this -- and so much more. A small space that has been expertly renovated, the use of fabric, texture, pattern and paint evokes Paris in the spring-time. The cleverly enclosed patio is a quiet reading (or breakfast) nook, while the large mountain-view-saturated outdoor area has a sizeable pool, and comfy recliners. Our weekend spent here in May (which coincided with the Franschhoek Literary Festival - a must-visit!) was a memorable one... only far too short. The beds are super-comfy; and the underfloor heating in the living area and bedrooms was a blessing as the nights were chilly. Attention to detail makes it so special. Even the shower soap evoked romantic, beautiful France! The property is beautifully maintained, and has a delightful lived-in feel. We felt completely at home, cooking up a storm on the first night of our stay, and eating out the next. The customer service was excellent. Definitely the most beautiful weekend cottage we've found. We're dying for a repeat visit! Thank you so much.

A marvellous cottage in a wonderful village

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a most relaxing month in this beautiful, newly appointed two bedroom cottage. Great pool and outside eating and sunbathing area, regular servicing, magnificent village in walking distance with many, many restaurants. What more can anyone want. A good selection of books, comfortable couches to laze on when you needed to get out of the sun. Good views of the mountains all round.

A small glass doored conservatory, if it cooled down a little, where my wife lounged contentedly reading or we had breakfast watching the fantastic bird life drawn by a simple yet relaxing water feature. A wonderful holiday, we will certainly be back.
