About Tricia Petri-Clark

Tricia, originally from Sussex in South East England, but now living on the Isle of Skye, runs a home organising business (Your Home Organiser) and, together with her husband, owns and runs Gertie's Cottage in the picturesque small market town of Cranbrook in Kent, together with two holiday homes on the Isle of Skye - Alavik Lodge & Cottage (see HomeAway property number 1004372).

Tricia Petri-Clark purchased this cottage in 2011
Why Tricia Petri-Clark chose Cranbrook

We fell in love with this pretty, weatherboarded, early 19th century house the minute we saw it. Gertie's Cottage is cosy, warm and welcoming. When we stay, we love to stroll around the town, browse in the shops, drink coffee at one of several great cafes (sitting alfresco when the weather is fine) or have lunch at the local Inn.

What makes this cottage unique

Gertie's has a lovely view over the Union Windmill from the back windows and the lovely little garden. The log fire and exposed brickwork add to the charm of the cottage which is ideally located close to local shops and facilities. It is also really easy to get to many local gardens, castles, visitor attractions, woodland and lake walks, etc.

Gertie's Cottage is a pretty weatherboarded cottage situated just a minutes walk from the heart of Cranbrook, a peaceful small town surrounded by orchards and farmland, known as the Capital of the Kentish Weald. Narrow medieval streets are lined with pretty old houses and a wide range of interesting and independent shops. You will find several excellent pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes, a town museum and Union Mill, the tallest and finest working smock mill in England which is just beyond the charming garden. Cranbrook is at the heart of the South East’s castles and gardens and the sea is only 35 minutes away. Just 19 miles from Ashford's International train station, London is also in easy reach for a day out - only an hour by train from Staplehurst, just 6 miles away. Close by are the world-famous Sissinghurst Gardens, Finchcocks Museum of Music, Tenterden’s Steam Railway, Bedgebury Pinetum and Bewl Water for walks/water sports.

super vacances en Angleterre!

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 28 April 2013 Date of Stay: April 2013
Owner's Response: I am so glad we helped make your first holiday abroad such a joy. Thank you for the lovely review!

"We are delighted with our stay in Cranbrook, the cottage is perfect and really well equipped, everything is high quality and very clean. We have never found that in France! We appreciated the hospitality and gifts from Tricia (tea, coffee, cookies and a bottle of wine!) Thank you very much! The nearest shops are just 1 minute walking distance and there is everything you want. This is a very good address to remember. Cranbrook is very well situated for visiting the towns and villages of Kent. If we do not award 5 stars it is just for the traffic noise because the bedroom had no double-glazing. Thank you Tricia for the exchanges that reassured us on our first holiday abroad, thanks to you we left England with a smile!"
NOTE: We are very pleased to confirm that we are having double glazed replacement windows fitted to eliminate traffic noise.

Great little Cottage Clean with Everything

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 17 April 2013 Date of Stay: March 2013
Fabulous Cottage well presented, very clean, all creature comforts, everything you would need well equipped and thought out. The open fire was a saviour staying in the coldest Easter ever although the heating is good. Something nice about a real log fire.

My boys found the Cottage Awesome! Will certainly stay again.
Owner's Response: We're so glad Gertie's Cottage kept you warm and cosy and that your boys liked it so much they described our holiday home as 'awesome'!

An ideal place for my “sabbatical”

Review Submitted: 19 December 2012 Date of Stay: November 2012
Gertie’s cottage was an ideal place for my “sabbatical” as it accommodated two people very comfortably in a well set-up, modern house without much housework. We enjoyed shopping in the village and other nearby villages, as well as visiting the special features of the Kent countryside such as beautiful Sissinghurst Castle, Canterbury and places where our relatives lived many years ago before emigrating to Australia. Cranbrook Museum was especially interesting as was the Art Exhibition and provided an idea of the long local history of the town and many of the buildings and institutions. We also appreciated it being only just over one hour from London.

Charmant cottage

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 November 2012 Date of Stay: February 2012
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review Joel. So glad you enjoyed Gertie's! I have made a rough translation into English:
'Lovely cottage, comfortable and tastefully decorated, perfect for a family with two children. Contact with Tricia, the owner, was warm and the service was friendly. The village offers all the necessary shops and its proximity to London means you can get there easily by train. We spent a very pleasant week here.'

Lovely cottage in beautiful area

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 04 September 2012 Date of Stay: August 2012
The cottage was exactly wat we expected after seeing it on the website: warm and cosy with a great eye for detail. Everything we needed was there - and more!No need to buy/bring things like sugar, herbs/spices, washing-up liquid, washing powder etc. etc., they were all there. Tricia made us feel very welcome and she contacted us a few times to make sure everything was all right.
The cottage is right beside a busy road which can be very noisy in the early morning hours, so it might be wise to bring earplugs. Other than that: perfect!

The area is very picturesque with charming old villages and lovely scenery. We very much enjoyed the public footpaths which led us through the fields surrounding Cranbrook and made us feel very adventurous!

We rented a rowing boat at Bodiam boating station which was very relaxing, but don't expect to see great views along the way as the river banks are quite high (compared to Holland). Very friendly people though and they have a lovely tea garden.

A bit further away, but well worth the trip is the Warner Brothers Studio Tour which shows the sets and making-of the Harry Potter films. We were completely blown away!

All in all we had a great holiday at Gerty's cottage and we would certainly recommend it to our friends. Thanks again Tricia!
Owner's Response: My pleasure Barbara, so happy you found lots of interesting and fun things to do during your stay!
