This attractive old beamed Normandy farmhouse, offers home from home comfort in beautiful countryside a short drive from Honfleur. The house stands in a large enclosed garden, down a quiet lane. It is away from it all, but still only a 20 min drive from Deauville and Trouville. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, each with twin beds, or super king-size if preferred. There is a family bathroom between the bedrooms. The ground floor is a large open area, with comfortable living room, ( Sat TV, and a futon offering an optional further sleeping arrangement) and behind exposed beams, a dining room. To the rear downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen, a washing room with washer and tumble dryer, a shower room with basin, and separate WC.
The owners of this property are Rob & Francoise Sanders, who live in their old pressoir within the grounds. The couple ran successful restaurants in London over many years, and Francoise's considerable chef skills are available by prior arrangement.
Rob and Francoise Sanders fell in love with the property upon first sight in 2007. The current farmhouse was their own home, whilst they completely rebuilt and converted the old apple press barn (pressoir) that is also located in the grounds. They moved into their pressoir in 2011, and now offer their original home for rent to holidaymakers.
Robert Sanders purchased this farmhouse in 2007
The pretty Normandy countryside always held an attraction for Rob and Francoise, but this particular property simply sold itself. So pretty, with beautiful trees and plantings, a certain winner.
The views from any window are picture postcard, the garden is welcoming, AND, as a holiday home, just about everything is provided.
From the moment we were greeted by Rob and Francoise to the emotional au revoir, we had a truly wonderful time. The cottage is full of character and charm, and equipped with everything one could need during their stay. There was even a welcome pack in the fridge which went over and above what could reasonably be expected. Rob and Francoise were excellent hosts, and got the balance right between being there and allowing the guests time to themselves. The surrounding area has such variety, with so many things to see and do and places to visit, although in such a relaxing environment, we also made sure we spent plenty of time around the cottage. There is also a lovely little bar and epicerie in the adjoining village, with a charming owner, Benoit, which we enjoyed visiting. Overall, a fantastic holiday, and a place we look forward to returning to.
We had a fantastic week in this lovely house which contained everything you need for a pleasant holiday. A better emcees than Robert and Francoise you can not get. They were very friendly and very nice to talk to. We highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to have vacation in Normandy.
This is a long overdue review prompted by looking back at summer holiday photos during a wet autumn weekend.
We had a wonderful ten day in July in This lovely cottage. We completely agree that Robert and Francoise are wonderful hosts. We felt completely at home and really enjoyed conversations about everything and anything! We had a superb meal cooked by Francoise and would highly recommend that guests take-up this opportunity. The location is excellent for visiting many of Normandy's historical sites. A lovely cottage, excellent hosts = recipe for great holiday. Valerie, Bryan and Steph.
We spent a week at Rob & Francoise's delightful farmhouse in Normandy. It was spotless, charming, and comfortable and the only house we rented in France that was completely stocked without extra charges, such as linens, cooking basics, and even a refrigerator stocked upon arrival with enough to make a simple meal. The owners have thought of everything - all you have to do is arrive and enjoy!
The farmhouse is located on a quiet country lane so that you feel as though you are away from it all; yet, by car, it is 5 min away from surrounding villages, and just a short drive to Honfleur. Rob & Francoise were the perfect, friendly hosts, who were interested in our comfort and gave us great advice on places to see in the area. We really enjoyed our conversations with them over a glass of wine, and our memories of our time here are some of the best in all of our years of travel. We would not hesitate in the least to recommend a stay here to our friends and relatives - it was just fantastic. Merci beaucoup, Rob & Francoise, from Richard, Carol & Cheryl from California
We (2 adults, 2 children) enjoyed our stay very much. The house provides all things to make your holiday comfortable. Robert and Francoise are so thoughtful and friendly hosts, we felt really welcome and at home.
The house and the garden are so beautiful and well-equipped that we could stay in the cottage the whole day without the children (4 & 6 years) getting bored. The surroundings are quiet and peacefull. Still you have all shops and restaurants in the near surrounding and lovely places to go for sightseeing.
Irene and David Jackson (MCSSI): Poole, Dorset:
Just spent 5 gloriously peaceful days with Robert and Francoise in their beautiful self-catering farmhouse in the countryside of Fourneville, Northern France, aptly named The Little Gem and offering us every amenity to make our stay such a comfort and joy. And we took up the offer of Francoise' whose food and culinary skills, when not wishing to cater for ourselves, was first class and a delight to experience.
We received a BIG WELCOME on arrival and BIG HOSPITALITY through our holiday and will DEFINITELY be returning next year for some more FIRST CLASS PAMPERING.
The location is ideal for touring the Normandy countryside, historic sites and cities and after each day of doing so we enjoyed the peaceful ambience of our accommodation and the beautiful garden and countryside surrounding us.
The perfect holiday. THANK YOU SO MUCH..
Fourneville, in Calvados, is a peaceful rural village just 10 min drive inland (9 km) from picturesque Honfleur, with its Marina, and buzzing pavement cafes and restaurants.
The surrounding countryside is green and pretty, and offers both good walking and cycling. By car, the attractions of Deauville and Trouville, with beaches, casinos, and horse-racing, are only 20 minutes away, and Caen, the D-Day beaches, and Bayeux are within easy reach.
Award winning cider and Calvados is produced by a neighbouring farm, less than half a kilometre away, and Golf at St Gatien is a 5 min drive.
Fourneville lies just 30 km from the car ferry port at Le Havre, and is just south of the spectacular Pont de Normandy, a journey of less than half an hour by car. Calais is 215 km, and a 3 h drive.
Quite simply, this is an ideal base for exploring the many attractions and historical sites of this beautiful area of Normandy, or for simply relaxing with nature.
