EXPERIENCE THE REAL SPAIN. RESTORED COUNTRY COTTAGE IN THE HILLS ABOVE THE COA

Special Offer: Incredible discounted offer 30 September - 30 November

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Almunecar - Jasmine Country Cottage.

Spacious house, suits groups, families or couples. Experience the real Spain.

Beautifully restored Andalucian rustic house, set in the hills above the historic and picturesque coastal town of Almunecar. Located on the coast between Malaga and Granada. Almuñecar is an 18 minute drive away from the house. The road to the house winds up through the valley with beautiful views.

There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, both with showers. There are 2 large terraces with plenty of room to take the sun all day.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area and a large living room. Also an outside BBQ which is the original bread oven. There is a 4.6 metre (15 feet) diameter plunge pool. 1.2 metres (4 feet) deep to escape from the heat when necessary. The walls of the house are 0.5 metres thick, with coolness inside in the summer months..

There is an ample roof terrace with a cooking and eating area

About the local area:: THIS BEAUTIFUL HOUSE IS IDEAL FOR GROUPS AND FAMILIES AND SLEEPS 8 COMFORTABLY.This is a rural type holiday as the setting is peaceful and in the Andalusian hills above Almunecar. The road up to the house is a 10 minute drive on tarmaced road winding its way slowly up into the hills with spectacular views...The village at the bottom of the hill is called Torre Cuevas and has a small well-stocked supermarket If you want a bigger ' shop ' there are 3 large supermarkets in Almuñecar itself. The town has retained its Spanish flavour unlike Nerja and other towns along the coast. This is why people come back time and again.you can spend the day sitting at various cafe / bars and restaurants watching the locals go about their business. The house itself has a unique atmosphere of peace and tranquillity and evenings can be enjoyed just sitting outside on one of the 2 terraces, enjoying your evening meal and a glass of local wine and listening to the sound of the local bird life.

About the house itself:: THE HOUSE IS IDEAL FOR GROUPS AND FAMILIES AND SLEEPS 8, COMFORTABLY.The house was originally split into 2 parts as 2 families lived there. These people lived from the land and the fruit trees on the hillside. These trees are still there and we are slowly restoring the irrigation system that ' drip-feeds ' the trees. There are mangos, oranges, nisperos and avocados as well as grapes. You are welcome to pick these fruits to eat fresh with your meals. There are also 12 almond trees ( almendros ) which give a lot of nuts in season.

The house inside has been lovingly restored to a good standard (see the photos) with the 3 original fireplaces still in place. The chimney in the salon is working and provides a fantastic heat in the winter months when the nights can be colder. The walls of the house are up to 0.5 metre thick and provide excellent insulation from the hot weather. There is a roof terrace with views down the valley with the Mediterranean in the distance.

Local fiestas and fairs: We have included a few photos of one of the local fairs. There are fiestas almost every week and they are all very colourful and give a taste of the local culture which is unique to Andalucia. If you want to know what fairs are and events are on in any given week ,send us an e-mail and we will send you details of events for that period.

We are also offering guided walking holidays from the property........please visit our website for more details.

About Nigel Taylor

Well-travelled Hertfordshire man. I have lived in Spain for 20 years. This part of the coast is quite unspoilt and very Spanish, so it suited as a place to settle and enjoy the quieter life. I've spent my life in the construction business, so when I had the opportunity to buy and fully restore the property, I jumped at the chance because of its unique location at the top of the valley. I haven't regretted it.

Nigel Taylor purchased this house in 2005

Why Nigel Taylor chose Almunecar

Its beautiful location.

What makes this house unique

The nature. Its like living in a nature reserve with the birdlife.also the quietness, especially at night and in the evenings.

Family of 4 have a blast

  • 5 out of 5
We have just spent two lovely weeks in Nigel and Blashka's fabulous accommodation in Almunecar. We wanted rustic and remote and that's exactly what we got. The drive up the mountain was an experience first time around (!) but we soon became used to it and after a while it became something to look forward to - especially at night where your only guide are your headlights and the incredibly bright stars.

The natural surroundings of the farmhouse make it like no other place we have stayed in before and it felt like we were truly in Spain, as opposed to a holiday resort/town. The beaches are in easy reach and the beach at Cantarrijan was a real delight. The drive up and down the mountains to Granada and back were intimidating and yet humbling at the same time - they are quite something to behold. (The absence of any road or air traffic at the farmhouse is like a breath of fresh air.)

Nigel's house is in a perfect location for those who wish quiet and solitude but who fancy the odd day trip out and about. The house itself is comfortable and well equipped and the pool was a welcome treat at the end of a very hot day!

Regarding Billy The Cat, he is becoming slightly more friendly and craves affection. We fed and watered him every day and he very much enjoys being in the company of people. However, he is still a feral cat and you should be careful not to crowd him. He is a very welcome addition to the farmhouse and like the prior guests, we would implore the next guests to continue to feed him.

Blashka makes the most incredible fig jam and if you are lucky enough you will get to sample this.

Nigel and Blashka's warmth in receiving us as guests was very welcome and we would very much recommend the farmhouse for a holiday. Just to sit outdoors late at night with no lights, a bottle (or three....) of wine, and stare at the stars, the outline of the mountains and listen to nature's voice - is worth every penny. Definitely somewhere that deserves a return trip.

Really Nice Stay.

  • 5 out of 5
Our weeks holiday was very good.

The house was clean and tidy. The view down to the Mediterranean quite stunning. The front terrace was where we spent a lot of time, eating and drinking !

The local town of Almuñecar is very Spanish with some very good restaurants. Not at all expensive.

We wanted a peaceful holiday in pleasant surroundings and this was it !

Thanks to Nigel and his team for the good customer service.

Excellent Holiday

  • 5 out of 5
We were looking for an " authentic " rural-type holiday, away from the crowds and this seemed an ideal solution. It was. The journey up to the house took about 10 minutes up windy roads, but quite safe. Once there, we had panoramic views back down to the Mediterranean in the distance.

We found ourselves setting off at about 10 in the morning for the drive to our days destination. It takes about 20 mins to Almunecar, the coastal town. This town is so Andalucian. The shops and narrow streets were marvellous and the restaurants good quality.

The house itself is bigger than it seems from the photos. We had plenty of room to rattle around in. I would describe the style as cottagy. All the basics were in place, including a good internet connection, which we found very useful. The TV is not Sky,but we could get BBC news and a few other English channels.

The house is nicely maintained and clean.

Probably one of the nicest features is the grounds, about an acre, with fruit trees. The terraces also are a delight. We sat outside every night under the canopy of grapevines with the smell of Jasmine. It was lovely.

We wanted to say a nice " Thankyou " to Nigel and his team, who were very helpful.

Highly recommended.

Geoff Reed.

Owner's Response: Thanks Geoff. Always nice to get a positive feedback. The house is what it is. Very Spanish. No airs and graces. If you want an authentic, rural-type holiday within touching distance of the coast, this holiday is for you. We are very pleased with the house and its situation........Far from the madding crowd, as Thomas Hardy once said, but with a fast internet connection !

Beautiful Location

Just to say that we really enjoyed our short stay at this property. It was ideal for us as we wanted a relaxed time and there was plenty of space for the children to play and explore. If you want a rural-type holiday, although within touching distance of the beaches ( 20 minutes ), then this was ideal. Thanks to Nigel and friends for all your help. Jhnathen Bennett and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. The house is ideal for those who want a quieter holiday in a beautiful rural situation, but at the same time, only 18 minutes drive from the beaches and town. The house has sun all day, so is in an ideal spot.

Nearest attraction is the historic and beautiful town of Almunecar: narrow streets, dinky shops, typical unspoiled Andalusian town. Visit the castle dominating the town and the Roman ruins and viaducts. Explore the beautiful beaches and restaurants and tapas bars. There is something for everyone here with the new Aquarium the latest place to visit. Also the local food market open every day for fresh produce and the weekly flea market, boot sale. One hours drive away you have beautiful Granada with the Alhambra Palace and Moorish architecture. 20min away the famous recently discovered caves at Nerja with the worlds biggest stalagmite - a must see. The whole coast is dripping with places to visit and is not spoilt with the over- development that is found south of Malaga. There are a large variety of restaurants at very reasonable prices, as well as the local Andalusian cuisine there are menus from all over Europe including a very good Indian restaurant in the town. Also live flamenco.

Other Activities: Birdwatching and hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and caving, paragliding, windsurfing, sightseeing and historic sights most outdoor activities
