"Luxurious" Paris Apartment at Luxembourg Gardens
"Luxurious" Paris Apartment at Luxembourg Gardens
Review Submitted: 28 May 2012
Date of Stay: May 2012
We stayed in the apartment for 8 days. It is in a very wonderful area, the building is good and there are very nice views from the living room and dining room. The table pictured is actually on a small ledge perhaps 2 feet wide out side the dining room window, a little different than perhaps the photo leads one to think of. It was more than adequate and we had a very nice time but "luxurious" it is not. The apartment had not been well cleaned ( dirty towel left in the bath tub), there was no hand or bath soap left for us ( we went out and bought our own), no Kleenex/tissues, no toilet paper holders, door handles/hardware ready to fall apart, unrepaired holes in ceilings where light fixtures had been pulled out, and litlle, tiny inexpensive lamps placed on bedside tables, almost inadequate for reading at night.
I had told Jackie we would be there at 3PM on our arrival day but then called her from the airport to let her know we were actually a little early. She was late for even the 3 PM agreed -upon time so we spent 25 minutes sitting on our luggage. Finally, a small point: email turnover times, excluding the initial inquiry/booking emails, averaged 5 days to 2 weeks, not very client-friendly.
The location almost trumps all of the negatives noted above - it is terrific. A little more attention from the owner/manager would certainly make this a 5 star property.
Owner's Response: How surprised I was to read this review.
As the manager of this appartment for over two years now, I have always been at the disposal of all our guests and ready to provide the best possible service. I was comforted in my devotion by all the above comments. I am very careful concerning the cleanliness and the comfort that I double check before every arrival.
Concerning the state of the apartment, one must know that the left bank area of Paris is mainly composed of buildings dating from the 17th or 18th century. which explains the lack of wide space in each room and, especially, the fact that the apatment does not look in a perfect shape. An 18th century building does not age the same way as a modern building. But it is also what makes it charming. The walls regularly « crack » which explains « the holes » in the ceiling » that had actually been completely redone less then two years ago. As for the door knobs, they are the original door handles of the apartment – not ready to fall apart – but not as « strong » as modern ones would be. But then, it was the choice of the owner to keep the « charm » of these authentic porcelain knobs rather then exchanging them against modern ones.
As for the furniture, the pictures speak for themselves. The owner chose the very trendy association of modern design furniture with the traditional older building designs of the left bank.
Finally, as I always do, I called a couple of times during our guests’ stay, I came over with the owner to change the broken bulbs, and asked if everything was allright. At no time any of the above problems were mentioned. If I knew our guests were unhappy of some of the problems mentioned I would have certainly went out of my way to make his stay more agreeable. I do regret to read it after their departure and through a comment which is not, according to our welcoming values, the way we intend to offer this hopitality service.
Jackie
